Ya, Hunter and mage ones are totally overpowered.

well considering they arent even in yet, sure some of them seem not so great but some of the druid ones are already 'must haves' and honestly EVERY mage is gonna want the penguin

Mage

    * Glyph of the Penguin - Empowers a Minor Glyph to cause your Polymorph: Sheep spell to turn the target into a baby penguin.

Haha awesome :D   Do we also get a Glyph of the Texan - Turns your Ritual of Refreshment table into a Dairy Queen franchise?

I think some of these look OP, but I'm not sure they really are. Also, consider that you can only have 2 major, 2 lesser and 2 minor inscriptions on a character, so I think it'll balance out. Which ones in particular look OP?

  * Glyph of Moonfire - Increases the periodic damage of your Moonfire ability by 75% but initial damage is decreased by -90%.

Goodbye moonfire spam?  :awesome_for_real:

How do you get a glyph ?

And how are they applied and can they be removed (and at what cost?).

How do you get a glyph ?

They're made through the new Inscription tradeskill, how they get applied, and wether they get consumed is still unknown as far as I am aware.

I thought we knew they were going to be consumed.  Hrm.

I'm hoping it's a character slot mechanic so you can swap them out as you want.

I could have sworn that i recall someone mentioning that inscriptions would essentially be like Socketing for your spellbook.  I doubt you will be able to hot swap them like a piece of equipment, but replacing an old one with a new one should be much like replacing a gem in your socket slots.

One pertinent question is, which of these things is going to be self-only?  There's a lot of really nice things there, but as previous tradeskills have been, the best is saved for yourself.

Depending on how good this stuff winds up on release, and what's restricted to self-only, there may be a serious switching over to inscription by a lot of people.

Yeah, but the self only ones can be really frustrating too.

My Shaman can pump out the BoP defense Gems.  My Tank Warrior drools while my Shammy sobs that it's pretty much ALL he can do as yet.

Oh yeah, I wasn't saying that the self-only tradeskill stuff is in any way good.  It annoys the piss out of me.  If we weren't limited to two tradeskills I wouldn't mind, because then it'd be a matter of 'ok, you can work it up if you want it', but as it is, I can neither buy nor sell some of this stuff.  My characters have tradeskills for the express purpose of obtaining specific gear, I want gear from other tradeskills, other people want mine, but we can't exchange it.  While one might argue characters would be overpowered if they could buy all the self-only tradeskill stuff from everyone, I'd say it all balances out since at that point all characters would have equal access to all the tradeskill gear by purchasing it.  Not to mention encouraging some interaction with your friendly neighborhood tradeskiller.  And not forcing those who just plain loathe tradeskills to do them in order to gain the not-insignificant advantage of some of the self-only stuff.

But most of all I want them to change the damn enchant system to produce Enchanting Kits that I can sell on the auction house.

They did! In the previous build in beta (not the one yesterday, but the one before, 2 weeks ago) it appeared. You can now put enchants on scrolls and sell them in the AH. The scrolls are provided by Inscriptionists and you then 'enchant' the scroll. Its a boe item that can be traded/sold, what have you. They are applied like armor kits by anyone who has them in their bag and the only requirements are the minimum requirements that the enchants had for item level. No word on wether this is going to make it to the live xpac, but if it does enchanters all over the game will rejoice!

So Inscription is mostly BoP?

Am I reading that right?

I think inscriptions will be like enchants in that there will be sellable scrolls and once scribed cannot be unscribed and if you do want another glyph you will have to overwrite one of your old ones, much like gems, which would make sense. This way it keeps inscribers in business as people will switch scrolls depending on spec.

That's fine, I just don't want it to turn out that the "cool" inscriptions are only for ppl who are inscribers and fell ass-backwards into the patterns. I'm looking at you, sunwell engineering hats.

Hopefully there is some kind of "respec" option that allows you to unscribe them, because unlike gems, which are basically all bonuses, these have some effects in the list above that could be considered negatives:

    * Glyph of Healing Touch - Decreases the cast time of Healing Touch by 1.5 sec., the mana cost by -25% and the amount healed by -50%.
    * Glyph of Insect Swarm - Increases the damage of your Insect Swarm ability by 30% but it no longer affects your victim's chance to hit.
    * Glyph of Moonfire - Increases the periodic damage of your Moonfire ability by 75% but initial damage is decreased by -90%.

I can see some of those being great for PvE, but suck for PvP, and thus I can see people wanting to buy them an apply them for raids, then remove them after the raid so they can PvP.

aye, sounds more like adding armor bonus kits.  Need to overwrite them to change.  And each item gets only one glyph, etc.

Ok, that's some of the best beta news I've heard.  I've got four enchanter characters, maybe I'll drop it on some of them so they can pick up Inscription, since I'll be able to trade enchants to other characters on the same account.

Out of curiosity, why would you have 4 enchanter characters on one account?  I have 1, who enchants his own gear, and de's stuff to make mats if my other characters need enchants done.  Having 4 seems kind of redundant, unless you are going for ring enchants and the like?

I'd like to second the Enchanter Scrolls being the bestest change ever.

And Loooooooong overdue.

One of them is horde side, so technically I only have three enchanters on the same side, but yeah, I'm mostly liking the ring enchants on my characters.  Plus I loathe not being able to disenchant quest rewards that I can't/won't use.  It also kind of grew out of the fact that I used to take enchanting and one gathering profession on every character just so I could disenchant everything, back before they slapped that retarded limit on disenchanting stuff.  Once I was 60 and had gathered the faction and/or recipes I wanted I would drop enchanting and grab whatever production profession I wanted for actual use.  Until then, I used enchanting essentially as a gathering profession.

Yes, this is another one of those things I love that they are doing, but still pissed it has taken this long.

The other bad thing is that I know I'll be spending a ton of time working on this now.

Warhammer has slottable Tactics (can switch in and out out of combat only) that have effects on specific abilities- lessen a cooldown for Ability X, increase damage for ability Y but decrease range 30%, etc.

I don't want to get into a debate on who did what first, but this system in WoW has been on the table for a very long time.

Regardless, they are taking what seems like a decent concept and adapting into their game.  I give them ++ credits on that.

I really don't care who's idea it was.  I'm much more concerned with who does the best implementation of the idea.

Umm, it's WoW. It's Blizzard. 95% of everything they've ever done is borrowed from someone else's idea, they just polish them til they gleam. So what? Originality is so overrated.

When they do try to be original they come up with things like the meeting stones and the current lfg window. They need to stick to borrowing, imo.
