A guy got caught driving with weed in my town. My paper's attention to detail can be fun. Apparently it was a routine traffic stop, but he had a bag of weed hanging off the turn signal stem. Really? Couldn't toss that under the seat, hoss?

No way that was more than an ounce. So I'm told.

Find out what the violation limit is in your state and never carry more than that (in fact, only carry a couple joints if you need to, you can eat them if you have to). Don't keep paraphernalia. Drive like a nun on sunday. Don't drive high. Don't deal with low-level street dealers. Don't buy lots of small quantity, buy a nice quantity and store it in a sealed frozen container.

That's the basics for advice I could think of. I used to be very open about smoking, but not stupid. Now I can't even risk getting caught with a joint (haven't smoked in years, unfortunately) or lose my job and house. What a country.

No dobut.  Police need no warrant to toss you in the slammer if you have anything illegal out in plain sight. They don't even need your permission to search your car at that point, I think.  You just gave them reasonable cause.

If you're transporting an ounce or more stop by a Subway and buy a footlong.  Place bag of weed inside the sandwich and rewrap it.  You get pulled over, and no cop is going to pull apart a sub.  Likewise, on the remote chance that they have a dog it could make the cop just think that the dog is investigating food.

Nope.  Actually, I'm pretty much of a tee-totaler.  I really hardly ever drink, even.  My mother and father, and all my siblings, though?  Major stoners.

The Subway sandwich pot costume reminds me of one of my dad's friends who taught me how to drink beer while driving. He would go to 7-Eleven and buy a Big Gulp cup filled with ice an a 6 pack. He'd pull out most of the ice, nestle a can in it, and pop the lid back on. Necessity is the mother of invention!

A "friend" I know got pulled over with some buddies one night.   He was in the backseat and his half ounce was wrapped in a baggie on the seat next to him.  He was too stoned to realize it.

Two cop cars, three cops circling the car with flashlights for 10 minutes, taking IDs and questioning while a cloud of smoke poured into their faces when the windows rolled down. 

Somehow, by the grace of whatever, they let "them" go.  Wasn't until they were a half mile down the road that "he" looked down and realized wtf happened. 

Or so I'm told.

Expecting someone to react quickly when they're stoned....  Shit, you're lucky if they even *notice* they might be in trouble.  Unless you're one of those that get paranoid when you smoke pot, in which case why are you bothering?
