http://www.drhorrible.com Joss Whedon making an Internet-distributed indie comic book musical... Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: NiX on July 18, 2008, 09:02:31 PM Someone thought it was useless (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=6536.msg481176#msg481176) :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: MahrinSkel on July 18, 2008, 09:04:55 PM If you like Joss Whedon, you'll like it. If you didn't like Buffy or Angel, you won't like it at all. It's a funny one-off musical, with some good gags and even some deep meaning.

Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Aez on July 19, 2008, 05:13:05 AM I didn't even last 1 min. This is boring.
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Merusk on July 19, 2008, 07:42:47 AM I didn't even last 1 min. This is boring. Keep watching. You have to make it through the slow letter reading intro part. I nearly stopped, too, but it does get better. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Selby on July 19, 2008, 07:50:03 AM I didn't even last 1 min. This is boring. I made it through Act I. Still boring. But then I hated Buffy and Angel.Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Samwise on July 19, 2008, 07:56:04 AM It's got Doogie and Mal as a lame supervillain and a superpowered asshole. And they SING. I don't understand what's not to like.
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Engels on July 19, 2008, 08:00:42 AM I'm digging it, and Buffy bored me silly.
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: jpark on July 19, 2008, 08:03:45 AM Very good.
The future of actor self promotion? Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Yoru on July 19, 2008, 08:04:27 AM I liked the first two acts, but I felt the third was kind of a let-down. They tried to cram too much into it, whereas the first two are centered more around singular major character development events.
But the songs are fun, and this is probably the first thing Joss Whedon has done that I haven't thought to be pure crap. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Merusk on July 19, 2008, 08:10:18 AM Very good. The future of actor self promotion? Probably, yes. There was a bit in EW (the wife gets it) a few months back about Will Ferrell and the other guy who started funnyordie.com. In that interview they mentioned that a lot of their corner of liked the idea of releasing web content for the sheer fun of the project and the chance to do something different. We're just beginning to see the first wave with the second and third tier actors in projects like Dr. Horrible and The Guild in addition to Funny or Die. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Engels on July 19, 2008, 08:26:55 AM But the songs are fun, and this is probably the first thing Joss Whedon has done that I haven't thought to be pure crap. You didn't like Firefly? Burn him! :mob: Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Tebonas on July 19, 2008, 10:37:25 AM I would watch the phonebook read by Felicia Day, even with the sound turned off.
But I liked this for its other qualities as well. I found it funny and Harris actually was good in it. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Samwise on July 19, 2008, 10:42:59 AM Yeah, NPH completely stole the show.
I'm sad it was over so fast. Part of me wants them to make more episodes, but the other part of me is pretty sure they would only go downhill from here. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Evil Elvis on July 19, 2008, 11:39:27 AM Unhappy ending was 100x better than just-a-fantasy ending.
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Lakov_Sanite on July 19, 2008, 11:50:48 AM Unhappy ending was 100x better than just-a-fantasy ending. I just watched it and yes, it was completely awesome. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Litigator on July 19, 2008, 03:52:43 PM Stuff I loved:
1. "Wonderflonium" 2. The Bad Horse song. 3. "Balls" at the end of act 1. 4. "The Hammer is my penis" 5. "It's a brand new day; yeah, the sun is high; the birds are singing; 'cause you're gonna die!" 6. "It's a good day to be homeless." 7. "I hate the homeless" 8. "We totally had sex." 9. "I'm in pain! This is what pain feels like!" 10. Dr. Horrible robbing the bank with Moist as his henchman 11. The "Goodfellas" tracking shot through Dr. Horrible's party, with the Bad Horse Chorus and Dr. Horrible giving the pound to the guy in the pimp suit. 12. The Evil League of Evil reveal with Bad Horse at the head of the table. 13. The sad last shot. Very great, and worth watching. I might even buy it on itunes after they take it down. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: lesion on July 19, 2008, 07:16:06 PM THE THOROUGHBRED OF SIN! He's a bad horse. Best character in the history of time.

Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Abagadro on July 19, 2008, 07:30:20 PM I think Fake Thomas Jefferson is a bit more terrifying.
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Lakov_Sanite on July 19, 2008, 07:50:10 PM I'm going to second
"The hammer is my penis" for being the best line. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Yoru on July 19, 2008, 07:54:49 PM Has the soundtrack been released on iTunes or anything? I'd definitely buy it. Reportedly, the DVD will even come with bonus tracks not in the webcast version.
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Phildo on July 19, 2008, 08:54:23 PM I liked NPH's deliver of "The freeze ray needs work," and "Captain Hammer threw a car at my head."
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Ironwood on July 20, 2008, 01:30:35 AM That's great stuff.
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: ahoythematey on July 20, 2008, 01:47:53 AM I only liked the Buffy movie and Firefly. I remember a friend of mine dragging me to the drafthouse singalongs of Buffy, and the only real fun I got out of it besides getting to spend time with her was through tormenting the hardcore fans there by saying I liked the Dawn character.
Eh, somebody will have to force me to watch this, not going to do it on account of recommendations from the likes of you riff-raff. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: DraconianOne on July 20, 2008, 03:20:45 AM I only liked the Buffy movie Admitting that you fail at life would be less embarassing and earn you considerably more respect. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Tale on July 20, 2008, 03:34:10 AM Very good. The future of actor self promotion? What? This cost six figures to make. It employed dozens of people. It was written and funded by one of the top TV writer/directors in the world. This is what they did during the writers' strike. Whedon now has to try and make his money back in untested ways. I only liked the Buffy movie and Firefly. Eh, somebody will have to force me to watch this, not going to do it on account of recommendations from the likes of you riff-raff. I only liked Firefly. It was superb and I was very moved when the ensemble cast and crew had to part ways. The Buffy/Angel universe was tacky schlock of the kind that pulp fantasy novel-reading geeks everywhere quote Python-style until I strangle them all, one by one, to repair the human race and make the world just aaaaace. Dr Horrible was great. Highly recommended. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: ahoythematey on July 20, 2008, 04:00:06 AM I only liked the Buffy movie Admitting that you fail at life would be less embarassing and earn you considerably more respect. Well, in my defense I do like a lot of bad movies, it's been 10+ years since I actually saw the movie, and it had Paul Reubens stabbed with a ruler. I probably do fail at life too, so meh. Seeing as Tale seems to run along the same track of thought that I do, maybe I will check out Dr. Horrible after all. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Engels on July 20, 2008, 05:33:36 AM The Buffy/Angel universe was tacky schlock of the kind that pulp fantasy novel-reading geeks everywhere quote Python-style until I strangle them all, one by one, to repair the human race Amen, brother. Preach it to the skies. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: jpark on July 20, 2008, 10:19:57 AM Very good. The future of actor self promotion? What? This cost six figures to make. Like I said... Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Tale on July 20, 2008, 11:35:14 AM Like I said... So it's the future of actor self-promotion for already well-known actors who don't need self-promotion? I was thinking struggling actors. The only reason it's recouping any money is the already well-known names attached. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Tebonas on July 20, 2008, 11:40:59 AM Lets see how the "The Guild" DVD sells, then we see how that self-promotion works for not so well-known actors.
And this is hardly the first time they tried that for known actors either. Sanctuary (http://www.sanctuaryforall.com/social/) for example. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: jpark on July 20, 2008, 01:49:55 PM Like I said... So it's the future of actor self-promotion for already well-known actors who don't need self-promotion? I was thinking struggling actors. The only reason it's recouping any money is the already well-known names attached. Ya if you're thinking of actors waiting tables until they get their big break - I agree - too expensive for them. But for actors who had minor film/TV exposure - or are entering their twilight years - or are now out favor - a vehicle like this may be teh new venue for them to get back in the public eye and solicity some interest. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Lantyssa on July 20, 2008, 05:30:52 PM I loved it. The perfect amount of camp. Although it made me sad, too.
Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Stormwaltz on July 20, 2008, 06:45:56 PM Nearly forgotten in the wake of "The Hammer... is my penis":
"Wow, look at my wrist. I have to go." Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Phildo on July 20, 2008, 08:37:51 PM Oooh, another one no one's mentioned yet is when the Bad Horse chorus says "he still says nay" and there's a horse neighing in the background. I love a good pun.

Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: SnakeCharmer on July 20, 2008, 09:24:40 PM I liked it more than I thought I would.
NPH was awesome. NF was awesome. Some really great deadpan delivery by both, especially NPH. I don't get the redheaded chick love that everyone seems to have, but different strokes for different strokes, I s'pose. Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Stormwaltz on July 20, 2008, 09:36:38 PM I noticed that the newscasters were Buffy/Angel writers David Fury and Marti Noxon, previously seen in "Once More With Feeling" cameos ("The Mustard" and "The Parking Ticket").

Title: Re: Dr. Horrible Post by: Abagadro on July 21, 2008, 12:27:03 PM You can buy it for 4 bucks on iTunes.
