Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Signe on June 29, 2008, 04:13:05 PM Aww. That's not fair. You did Shadowbane a favour! :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: LK on June 29, 2008, 09:21:00 PM Is this going to keep me up at night? I don't want another Travian / Tribal Wars scenario where I have to be watching my homestead 24 hours to survive.
It says "Play at your own pace" but knowing this type of game I view this as a dirty lie. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Sairon on June 30, 2008, 01:40:53 AM You should try HoMM 3 with the exps and this mod: http://wakeofthegods.strategyplanet.gamespy.com/ (http://wakeofthegods.strategyplanet.gamespy.com/), it's awesome, I had a HoMM3 relapse just a few months ago and this mod changed enough to make it feel like a whole new HoMM game :)
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Sky on June 30, 2008, 10:43:51 AM HoMaM 3 is the bestest. 5 is ok, but just can't match the gelling of the magic formula in 3. Going to have to check that mod out.
Not really interested in multiplayer, so not really interested in Kingdoms. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: LK on February 01, 2009, 09:53:51 AM What the hell is going on with this game? It's got the same "We're gonna start beta soon!" page for half a year now.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: sidereal on February 02, 2009, 01:37:02 PM Is it going to be a game of building up a single superstack of 20 fully upgraded dragons or whatever to stomp the whole map with?
Because I've been burned by HoMM and Disciples multiple times getting sucked in by the turn-based semi-tactical goodness. Then dropping out 20 hours in with a 'Oh right. Superstacks. How tedious'. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Aez on February 02, 2009, 02:57:21 PM From what I read, there's no system to prevent superstack but it shouldn't be a game over sight since it's a persistent game. I'm not sure, but I think you can find a niche within an alliance if big armies is not your thing. You can specialize your hero in scouting and simply spy for your alliance while they defend your border.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Azaroth on February 26, 2009, 10:50:27 PM I want to play this.

Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: LK on February 27, 2009, 09:52:26 AM Yeah what the hell. Any word on what's going on with this one? Mafia Wars is keeping me pretty happy but I want something I can invite f13'ers into.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Aez on February 27, 2009, 02:12:46 PM Official forum was update yesterday. It's still alive.
Quote Posted Thu February 26 2009 08:30 Hide Post As you said, you deserve some news about the game. The technical beta test is currently on and we’re continuing to collect feedback from the testers in order to study their actions and implement/modify features to fit their needs. It’s true that we’ve been using the word “soon” for a (very) long time but I can assure you that we have good reasons for that. As we go through development many features of the game are tweaked, modified, removed, added, and so on. Why does this happen? You are a fantastic and demanding community so we want to make sure that we don’t disappoint you with an unfinished or unbalanced game. For now we can’t give you a launch date for the public beta but we can assure you that you won’t have to wait for a full year again Please also note that Heroes of Might and Magic Kingdoms is a web-based game that aims to evolve with new features over the years. This means that, even after release, your feedback will be important for shaping and setting the direction the game goes in. We thank you for your patience. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Ghambit on May 03, 2009, 02:40:41 PM Any updates on this thing?
I dont think I've ever seen so much hype and tension for a PBBG. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Aez on June 13, 2009, 05:29:22 PM Still alive. Quote [Update June 11th] News about the game: The technical beta that just ended offering a great and furious war between the Dominion, the most powerful alliance from the last 2 betas, and a coalition of several eminent alliances. We would like to thanks all the beta testers who definitely and positively allow us to tune and improve the game features and mechanics, especially the PVP aspect. We are now launching a new closed beta to test all the new implementations and the new gameplay balance. This closed beta will be the last step before a Public Beta. We will keep you informed about the next steps and will open a new Q&A series soon. Yaiden Note the part about alliances. Sounds like an other Travian type where mega alliances dominate. Or there was only 200 testers. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Le0 on June 15, 2009, 02:19:00 AM nda.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Ghambit on June 15, 2009, 11:19:36 AM nda. I'm pretty sure no one in f13 is testing HoMM. Hell, the game is practically vaporware. Yaiden is like a wraith from the Matrix, popping in and out just when you think you've got him. Ubisoft didnt even mention this project at E3 and I saw nothing representative of it from their booth (although I wasnt at e3). But (sigh) they keep professing the game still exists. Odds are, they've got a few people working on it in their spare time and that's probably it. Anyways, speculation != nda violation. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: schild on June 15, 2009, 02:23:23 PM Quote Anyways, speculation != nda violation. You don't get to decide what is and isn't an NDA violation, hombre. http://mightandmagicheroeskingdoms.ubi.com/en/ New website and forums is up along with a new account manager. The game has been live in far off lands but is still being spit and polished for the western world. I'm just glad it isnt vapourware and we'll get to see what a studio like Ubisoft can do with this. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: LK on April 08, 2010, 10:11:10 AM we'll get to see what a studio like Ubisoft can do with this. HAH. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Aez on April 08, 2010, 10:37:54 AM I read some beta report. It's an AAA Travian. If I remember correctly, the game gets boring because it's too static and there is little room for custom strategy.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: grebo on April 08, 2010, 11:12:01 AM This may not turn out to be a great game, but to say it's Travian isn't very accurate. It has Heroes, area control, different races, rare resources, army movement on the map, NPC monsters on the map... Tons of stuff that none of the other Travian clones have even attempted.
Looks pretty awesome IMO. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Aez on April 08, 2010, 11:15:01 AM Warcraft 3 had a ton more feature than Warcraft 1 but it was still an RTS.
I didn't play the game, it's possible that it's better than the reports I read. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: grebo on April 08, 2010, 11:23:54 AM I hope so. On paper it's pretty damn close to my vision of the perfect city builder browser game.
Ubi won't screw it up, right? Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Ghambit on April 08, 2010, 02:10:03 PM It also has a Dynasty system, which I've always liked in games (gives them a nice Westeros feel and binds alliances). There are a few other pbbg out there that also have it (KhanWars is one I believe), so it's not a first... but a nice touch.
Essentially it'll be a more aesthetically pleasing Stronghold with magic, nothing like Travian. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: jth on September 03, 2010, 08:33:03 AM Apparently this is in beta in NA and UK now, however they seem to have some country restrictions still in effect?
I got a referral link from a friend, but it tells me "Might and Magic: Heroes Kingdoms™ has not been launched in your country yet!". I live in Finland, however after registering it redirected me to some french page for a while so I'm not sure where it thinks I'm located. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: grebo on September 03, 2010, 11:25:46 AM Hey, yeah, it's letting me play. I'm in NA
but... I'm playing too much Stronghold Kingdoms right now to play this as well... I played for 5 seconds of tutorial, and based entirely on that experience, I declare SK to be more fun. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Ghambit on September 04, 2010, 09:01:17 PM Goddamn this game is slow. 1 building queue size?? 3 hrs to clear your own area?? Definitely on the low-maintenance casual side of games. U want to grok more? Play SK.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Ghambit on September 05, 2010, 10:44:03 AM I'm ingame as "Ghambit" btw. Trying to get a handle on this game - MIGHT have legs later on as your empire gets larger, but the beginning is extremely slow.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Threash on September 06, 2010, 08:15:52 AM Yeah this is insanely slow, it's been about three days and i have accomplished what should take about 15 minutes in a game of this type. I'm in game as Threash.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Reg on September 06, 2010, 09:48:38 AM I'm in as Regg. With luck I'll have cleared out my mines just as the 15 day newbie protection expires.
(Actually I may or may not be Regg. I recall having to choose at least half a dozen different identities while signing up. At least one of them was Regg though!) Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Rendakor on September 06, 2010, 07:12:19 PM I'm in as Aryx. I signed up under Kitsune's referral link, but it told me your world was full. It's pretty slow going to start, particularly when compared to similar games: build times start in the 2 hour range, rather than 5-15m to start, etc. Is there a wiki out there with some info on starting strategies? I can't seem to get my Marketplace to work; a quest wants me to spend 5k on the AH, but there are no auctions listed. :uhrr: Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Ghambit on September 07, 2010, 08:53:21 AM Have I read correctly that build/queues get BETTER as you lvl up? As opposed to the usual tact of giving lowbies quick build times? No, not really, build times get longer. And also due to income rates, resource restrictions, and just how slow in general you build up an army: you're often just doing nothing but waiting around with idle heroes. It's a little dull. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Reg on September 11, 2010, 04:35:52 AM I've got a referral that will let me invite one person onto Kitsune's server that has filled up. It's not a link. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: grebo on September 16, 2010, 09:30:15 PM Started playing this after all..it is definitely something you don't have to pay much attention to, which can be good.
So random question if anyone knows... I believe I'm the Haven race, and that they don't get summoning spells from their magey towers... so how bad is it if I made one of my heroes a Summoner? Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Rendakor on September 17, 2010, 10:22:11 AM Your race lets you make heroes that won't get spells? That sucks. I'm Necro, and the only two classes of caster I can make are the two my mage tower gives spells for.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Reg on September 17, 2010, 10:25:05 AM I made the non-magical town too but I was still able to build a mage guild and buy light and dark spells for one of my magical heroes.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: grebo on September 17, 2010, 01:02:47 PM Oh... wait.. yeah, I do get Summon spells... it was just the first summon spell didn't sound like a summon spell so I guess I was confused.
Never mind, carry on. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: grebo on September 26, 2010, 06:36:37 PM Anyone subscribe to this? How many heroes does it let you get?
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Kitsune on September 27, 2010, 09:57:04 PM Apparently the max is ten heroes and cities for the subscribed. However, my understanding is that subscribing only removes the cap at three, it doesn't make getting heroes or cities any faster or cheaper. So just subscribing doesn't make it not take two months to be able to recruit a fourth hero, for example.

I dunno, it says "free play max reached" then it has the subscribe button... so I'd think that you could recruit more right away if you coughed up the dough... and with the speed that some folks are developing, they must have more than 3 heroes. I'm seriously considering it, even for a beta. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: JWIV on September 29, 2010, 07:39:57 PM I deleted my account on this. Game play was insanely slow with little reward.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Rasix on September 29, 2010, 08:07:04 PM I keep getting threatening notes from my Alliance telling me to read the forums. :oh_i_see:
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Reg on September 30, 2010, 12:40:55 AM There's a lot going on. The alliance is under attack. And they have these nice private alliance forums built right into the game for us. You know how to get to them right?
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Rasix on September 30, 2010, 02:00:46 PM Yes, and I've seen them. I'm just not terribly interested in trying very hard. :why_so_serious:
I'm teching up still, but I guess I could go whallop someone. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Reg on September 30, 2010, 02:15:58 PM Just drop a message in the forum once in a while letting people know you're still alive. Nobody's going to expect miracles. Bear in mind though that the people who are ahead of us in power aren't really that far ahead and they're getting hammered badly because of having the bad luck to be in the part of the alliance turf closest to the bad guys.
You don't have to do much. Send a hero on a scouting mission and report the results, send some money and resources to one of the guys getting beat up so they can afford to recruit more troops. I stopped clearing out the monster infested sections of my second city so that my army can grow enough to be of some use but I'm still upgrading mines and building new buildings. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Cadaverine on October 01, 2010, 03:23:23 PM I deleted my account on this. Game play was insanely slow with little reward. This. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Threash on October 07, 2010, 10:21:19 AM Ditto, cept i never bothered to delete my account. I'm sorry if anyone was still part of my alliance.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Rasix on October 29, 2010, 06:58:41 PM I'm done. "End game" is really annoying.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Rendakor on October 29, 2010, 11:51:42 PM I got midway through building up my second city and just got bored. Everything took too long.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: Reg on October 30, 2010, 01:31:38 AM I'm still playing but more out of habit than anything. I don't plan to play again when a new world starts up.
Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: grebo on October 31, 2010, 10:54:39 AM This game has lots of good points.
Things taking a long time isn't a bad thing if you only have so much time to babysit it. Also, the whole teamwork angle is an essential part of it. Most of the reason I'm having so much fun with this is because of the active, motivated alliance I'm part of. I'm also a big fan of the battle and siege system. Having things so heavily weighted towards the defender makes planning and careful action very important. I like planning. Title: Re: HoMM Kingdoms Post by: grebo on November 18, 2010, 08:51:03 AM If anyone wants to try this, or try it again, I've got one of them "invite your friends" codes. First PM gets it.
Basically you'd start out already in a big, motivated, well led alliance with a good shot to win. It's a pretty new server, less than 2 weeks old I believe. |
