I guess I'll be the first to say that it wasn't overly funny in any way.  Maybe I'm missing something though...

I thought that as well.  You are the first to say it though. 

The lead-up strips set it up better. Otherwise it just looks like a horrible strip where a kid dies.

It's still not ha ha-hi-larious.

It's still funny on its own IMO. About the only amusing thing Kurtz has done.

Well sure, but I still read the lead-in strips and couldn't find myself really amused.  Maybe there is more backstory that I am missing beyond the last 4 panes.

I'm chalking the lack of response here up to not knowing the utter banality of the strip as a whole. It slayed everyone on the depressing amount of communities I visit, but most knew how decidedly unfunny PVP usually is.

Well yeah, it's boring.  So I don't read it or even really remember much about it since the last time I read it was like 5-6 years ago.  There have been the occasional funny strip in that timeframe that has been linked, this one just missed the mark with me.  The more I think and discuss it, sure I'll concede it was probably funny, but fuck do I really need to think that hard about a comic strip to get a laugh?

I know how unfunny PVPOnline is. So I stopped reading it. This one is really no different.

God, Jesus Fucking Christ that Strip is awful. That guy needs to just stop. Stop.

What a wasted opportunity. Here's how you fix your Calvin and Hobbes spoof:

Get rid of panels 2, 3 and 4. Replace them with a floating panel that overlaps panels 1 and 5. In that floating panel, show: the edge of a cliff, their broken cart, the characters tumbling through air, and them saying something profound.

If you can't think of anything more profound for them to say than "n-nuh oh n-noooo t-t-tooo f-f-f-f-aasssttt", READ MORE CALVIN AND HOBBES!

I can't believe that most of you seem to have never heard of the comic. It was one of the first ones out there for MMO-dom.

Not that its much good, mind you. Had a little something early early on, but ya, its newspaper worthy.

I don't think it's that people here don't know it. I think it's that the comic sucks.

The one previous, with the kid throwing the kitten over the fence to distract the pit bull, was worth a grin.

Maybe I'm broken, but without context it's quite the opposite.

Edit: Is it me, or has his art actually gotten worse over time?  I quit reading around the time he decided to redo the looks of one of the recurring characters (Marcy?) and thought it was a horrible redesign.  I went back a few strips to see if I could find the funny, and detested how the art design has evolved since I stopped reading.

By the way, a brat with no redeming features dying isn't funny.  At least not the way Kurtz writes.  The character sucks so badly I can't even be bothered to hate him.

As a Calvin and Hobbes aficonado, I laughed.  I can see how it would be horribly unfunny if you didn't have that background, though. 

He's playing with his new digital pad recently instead of drawing then scanning.  It's fucking with line weights something fierce and makes certain things look awful or way out of place.   In short, he's fallen into the same trap that hits a lot of digital artists, the ability to zoom-in.

You spend a lot of time making a detail work "just so" only to discover when it's printed or on a 1680X1050 screen that, oh, it's only about 1/4" high.  Whoops.

Bah, PVP is funny at times, though this one just doesn't bring the funny at all. It's not funny enough to follow on a regular basis, but it doesn't suck monkey ass.
