Title: New MMO in production Post by: Lakov_Sanite on June 25, 2008, 09:43:46 AM Thundarr: Lords of light!
(http://www.thundarr.com/media/thundarr_battle.jpg) so...it's not in production but dammit....it should be. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Azaroth on June 25, 2008, 09:59:32 AM He-Man + Thundercats + Robots?
I'm not entirely sure how you can go wrong. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Slyfeind on June 25, 2008, 10:00:25 AM With all the other 80's stuff making a comeback, Thundar needs to return in a big way. And dammit the world is so rich in possibilities!
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Lakov_Sanite on June 25, 2008, 10:09:38 AM joking aside a post-apocalyptic setting where humanity is reduced to swords and sorcery and technology is it's own sort of strange magic? hell yes.
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: schild on June 25, 2008, 10:26:25 AM I'd prefer the FFVI setting than your setting Lakov, alike as they are. Jokes not aside, fuck the 80s were horrible.
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: slog on June 25, 2008, 10:32:01 AM Voltron and/or Transformmers would be far superior.
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Lakov_Sanite on June 25, 2008, 10:34:59 AM Hi five? FFVI was bar none my favorite console game growing up but honestly as much as I like anime and japanese rpg's i'm just not looking for that style in an mmo, it would just turn into FFXI with a different backdrop. No, the 80's may have sucked but the running theme not just in cartoons but in movies and novels of our world ravaged by technology and war then sent to the dark ages would translate really well into an mmo.
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: schild on June 25, 2008, 10:40:45 AM Eh? I meant the steampunk setting with Magic as some sort of outlaw bullshit power crept forth from ancient monsters. Not the animu part.
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: tazelbain on June 25, 2008, 10:45:13 AM Voltron would suffer the same problem as STO. You have to hamfist the source to make it a MMO. Transformers would work, but after the movie raped the source, I would have no faith. But a CoH/spore style robot builder, where you could not only choose its style but how it transformed, would be sweet. Thundar would be great. Rifts would be great also, but the owners suck.
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Calandryll on June 25, 2008, 10:52:17 AM If we're making mmogs from stuff from the 80s, I'll take some of this please...

I've said it every other time it comes up, and instigated a round of "me toos", but yes please. MPBT3025 was my first MMO and EA crushed my dreams in beta.(http://www.armorcast.com/battletech/picture/MadCat1Small.jpg) Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Simond on June 25, 2008, 12:38:52 PM Meh, if you're going to go for giant robots, go for what FASA borrowed/stole/got unwittingly involved in a scam about - Macross Online!
Space combat + transforming robots + giant transforming robots + humanity doing a "Great Leap Outwards" into a universe full of nasty shit (+ jpop). :drill: Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Evildrider on June 25, 2008, 12:54:34 PM If we're making mmogs from stuff from the 80s, I'll take some of this please... (http://www.armorcast.com/battletech/picture/MadCat1Small.jpg) I would sell my children for that MMO. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Fordel on June 25, 2008, 12:55:45 PM Meh, I love Macross as much as anyone else, but I have yet to see a game faithfully translate the actual Mecha combat of the series into anything fun or useful. It's always a shitty Flight sim with a pointless robot mode that turns you into a floating gun turret, or its a FPS that lets you hover.
A BattleTech MMO makes far to much sense, so we'll never see one  All the crap you need to make a MMO is already present, it just needs someone to put it together. We were already half way there with the old Kali Mechwarrior leagues. It could be like DaoC in space, or EVE minus the cockstabbing and plus fun combat. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Krakrok on June 25, 2008, 12:59:20 PM Thundarr: Lords of light! Didn't they just come out with that? It's called Age of Conan. He-Man is awesome and everything but Conan is pretty close to it. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: UnSub on June 25, 2008, 08:40:02 PM Was the point of this thread for Lakov to make up a fantasy (i.e. non-existant) MMO project? :uhrr:
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: lamaros on June 25, 2008, 10:15:32 PM And show us more of his excellent grammar.
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Lum on June 25, 2008, 10:32:30 PM You know, this would also make a pretty cool MMO setting:
(http://news.filefront.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/arcanum.gif) If you haven't played it, think Shadowrun, but steampunk instead of cyberpunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcanum:_Of_Steamworks_and_Magick_Obscura). Typical Troika game - great design ideas and writing, lousy balance, horrible bugs, little support. Plus, while playing it you learn orcs like tea. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: lamaros on June 25, 2008, 10:36:00 PM I played that I think. I didn't get far. Horrible horrible bugs.
Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Lakov_Sanite on June 25, 2008, 11:48:45 PM When schild mentioned FFVI I was actually thinking arcanum, couldn't remember the name though. I'd like a bit more lovecraft with my steampunk however.
What's the point of this thread? You're new to message boards I see, it's ok. ^ MMOG discussion, I'm discussing genres I would like to see explored though I'm sure in a few pages we'll somehow be talking about aoc combat. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Ratman_tf on June 26, 2008, 12:40:11 AM Fuck your Steampunk garbage! Lords of light! And Thundarr was the best 'genre' you could come up with? Oooo-kaaaaay. Let me know when we get to the Space Ghost 'genre'. Besides, it doesn't become fun until we start talking about either Eve drama or SWG NGE. Final Fantasy sucked donkey balls. Fuck it right in it's weeaboo ear. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Signe on June 26, 2008, 06:54:33 AM I like steampunk looking stuff. I know what Lum means, too. The game was pretty bad but the setting would be cool for an MMO. I don't know what the heck Ratman was shouting about (need coffee?) but that sounds cool, too!

I spent so much money on Battletech stuff, and we still play it from time to time. Anyway, both Auto Assault and that Fallen Earth could (have been) great, I want them to be great. I don't know, it's probably just nostalgia, but they all fall short of (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3057/2615653370_82d9394262_o.jpg) Guess only Fallout Online could maybe maybe MAYBE do it right. Title: Re: New MMO in production Post by: Bunk on June 27, 2008, 07:10:49 AM My vision of a Battletech MMoG, after giving it about ten seconds of thought:
Three sections to the game: - a social section - lance based missions - full on battles Run around as your avatar in the social setting, interacting with other people, possibly doing things to improve non-combat related skills. Mechanics, Salvaging, Bargaining, that sort of thing. Spend money, sell salvage, improve your Mech. Do missions with your own buddies or get assigned to a pickup Lance. You drop in to the planet in your mech, there's a set goal to accomplish. Would be full pvp, if a player drops out, his mech is taken over by AI. Winner is going to walk away with credits and salvage. Ongoing big battles. Basically, planet wide wars. They pop up periodically as a battle for control of a planet between factions. You drop in with your mech, and start fighting. Might be specific targets to go after, but mainly, just look for the enemy and blow him up. Eventually one side wins the battle and takes control of the planet - might take days overall though. Now you have another planet to do missions on. Might be necessary to have a little outside influence on the game to keep one faction from decimating the galaxy. Most important detail - no leveling, no combat related skills. You get fame based on your success, you can do missions within your fame level to keep some degree of balance. Someone make me this game. It leaves so much room for expanding content. You could start with Sigal and a bunch of doors leading to randomly generated world (or not random). The one real problem is that d20 is not a very good system for a MMOG. Maybe 4Ed would be better from what I hear.

I would thank you for identifying another traitor, however the only thanks a mutant pinko communist scum deserves is a very rapid evaportaion with a minimal amount of resource expenditure. Please enter the nearest Inceration Unit without delay. What do you mean the Computer keeps propaganda from our ears? Are you saying the Computer censors what we can see/hear? And if such WAS propaganda and the Computer WAS censoring it, how would YOU know it for propaganda? I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you just exposed yourself as knowing far more about what the Computer does and doesn't want us to know than is appropriate for your security level. This obviously makes you a traitor, possibly even a *gasp* hacker. How else could you know so much about what the Computer's censoring algorithms do and don't filter out? IF, that is, the Computer actually censored anything, which would imply that it had something to hide, meaning you percieve the Computer to be somehow untrustworthy. Shame, shame on you! How can you not trust the Computer? You must not be the Computer's friend. Non-friends of the Computer are obligated under Article 76:343, Section 845-22-102 Subsection III-C Paragraphs d, h and p to terminate themselves immediately. Since you've also proven yourself to be a hacker as well, I'm afraid Article 187:33 Section 2 Subsection MCMXIII Paragraph z leaves me with no option but to facilitate your self-termination immediately since traitors can't be trusted to obey the law on their own. *bzzzzzzaaaaaaP!* You're most welcome for the assistance, and please, Have a Nice Day! |
