Title: New Mythos email Post by: Azazel on June 20, 2008, 09:50:06 PM Yes, posting this in MMOG section.
Quote Valued Mythos testers, Has it been a while since you've played the ongoing Mythos closed beta test? Are you ready to experience a whole new type of online action RPG? If you answered yes to either question, you'll be happy to know we've completely rebuilt our free MMORPG from the ground up to be more expansive, cohesive, and seamless. We're calling this revamp the Mythos Overworld. As one of our valued testers, you can play in Mythos' Overworld it right now. Previously, Mythos' dungeons and monsters were instanced off safe towns. The towns are still safe, but the world around them has grown to be more like that of a conventional MMORPG. Now players of Mythos can actually explore a fully realized persistent world, meeting and adventuring with other people outside town. All this is available right now on our Mythos Test Center. It's still in development, but if you'd like to try it out early, all you have to do is start up Mythos and select "Mythos Test Center" from the login screen's dropdown menu. If you need to download the Mythos client again, just head to www.mythos.com, login with your account name and password, and download the client in our designated downloads section. Hope to see you online this weekend! -- Flagship Studios Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Signe on June 21, 2008, 10:34:48 AM I got that, too, and I though, "well, cool." It's a very cute game.
Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: schild on June 21, 2008, 10:40:24 AM Played it. Running feels too slow. World feels too empty. Towns feel too homey. They have some work to do.
Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: sam, an eggplant on June 21, 2008, 11:22:17 AM Yeah they just transitioned to the seamless world like two weeks ago. It needs to be filled out. But it's a major improvement in the game.
Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Signe on June 21, 2008, 12:32:47 PM I read Schildy's post and I thought, "Well, bugger."
Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Register on June 22, 2008, 05:28:39 PM What killed Mythos for me, was the huge grind to level starting at even as low as levels 8-15. Leveling takes a long time, skills are constantly being changed - don't know if they have a respec now but back then there's no respec.
And releveling might have been less of a pain if the bank was alot bigger, and if you could have features like mail to mail stuff to your chars or an auction house to buy items. Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Yegolev on June 23, 2008, 11:28:00 AM They have respec'ing and mail in both Beta and TC. I don't know all the details of mail since I don't have any friends playing, also I break down most of my equipment for aether.
The run speed has been increased in the overworld version (TC), but I'm hoping travel will be less of a pain after I have activated more anchornodes. Or whatver. It might take longer to get somewhere but I can't say I'm sad to see the monster-infested roadways go. If the stick with this direction, I think it will be a good thing even though they do indeed have a way to go before it is finished. I'll activate a warp point once and warp later, but I'm thinking they need more of them. On the other hand, if you're more of an explorer, this is a good move. The consignment/auction house will help, too, when they get that in. Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: schild on June 23, 2008, 11:28:56 AM I think it would REALLY help the game if they doubled the power on all the attacks and magic and tripled the number of enemies.
Right now Hardcore/Elite is too easy. Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: NiX on June 23, 2008, 12:19:46 PM Who is playing on the Beta server?
Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: schild on June 23, 2008, 12:21:32 PM I'm not playing on either til they patch overworld to beta.
Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Signe on June 23, 2008, 04:28:20 PM I play now and then but on the Test Server. It's too much of a bother to switch servers in FSS games. By the time a different server loads, I've completely forgot about it and wandered off.

Since the beginning I went back after the first major patch, but after that bored me I practically ignored the subsequent emails. Anyway the game did not quite grab me like diablo 2 did. When I was playing it I have had zero active MMO sub - but the game still could not hold my interest as leveling slow down drastically, and I am constantly getting items I can't use that I don't have place to store and I have no one to pass to. I also felt that their stat points system is borked for hybrids - the fire tree allows melee talents, but the items are all done with high stats requirement - wands need you to pump your Int constantly to use, melee weapons needs heaps of Str. And the melee class have to spread stats amongst str hp and still int - or your mana is too low to spam more than a few strikes before having to quaff a mana potion - which was intentionally non-stacking as stacking is supposed to be a 'paid' feature if I don't remember wrongly. Did they manage to fix the stats / items too? Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Nonentity on June 24, 2008, 08:54:43 AM Guys, it's okay.
Diablo 3 is going to be annouanced, and then NOBODY WILL CARE. :awesome_for_real: I AM A FANBOY OKAY Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Yegolev on June 24, 2008, 10:39:30 AM Anyway the game did not quite grab me like diablo 2 did. See schild's comment above. The feel is slower, less frantic. There are times I get swarmed lately, but it's still a bit lower than what I remember from D2. Nah, it's not quite as fun as D2 was. Looks better, though. It's more fun than Hellgate. About items you can't use, that's part of the D2 gametype. Now that crafting is in, you can break those things down into somewhat-less-useless scrap, or sell them. I think the stash is too small. For trading/muling, apparently mail works great but I haven't assed with it. It's a beta. Did they manage to fix the stats / items too? I don't think they will to my liking, but I'm a proponent of the Fate skill system. I didn't like the trees in D2, didn't like the trees in TQ, and I don't like the trees in Mythos. That said, they did dork around with the skills on the TC version, but I'm not able to give any summaries. Since you have played I'd wager they have fixed quite a bit. For example, rifles actually work like other weapons. Potions stack now, up to ten, plus you can upgrade them via the Horadric Cube with the three-makes-one-higher formula... I mean Zivia's Puzzle Box. Also on TC they have implemented stack-splitting, to which I say "about fucking time". I also am waiting for this shit to move to Beta before I go back, since I expect it will take another two hours to patch back. Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Signe on June 24, 2008, 11:50:44 AM Hellgate test server is good fun.
Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Yegolev on June 24, 2008, 11:59:23 AM Can you split stacks on Hellgate Test?
Title: Re: New Mythos email Post by: Signe on June 24, 2008, 07:53:46 PM YES!
