I think I just witnessed the greatest golf performance in history.

What happened?

Woods is basically on one leg because of his recent knee surgery yet on the back 9 coming in made 2 eagles (55 foot 6 foot breaker down hill, plus a 25 footer on 18) plus a one-hop chip-in birdie from the hellacious rough to take a one shot lead going into Sunday.  Unreal.

Is his knee that bad?

He was almost falling over after his follow through and practically using his driver as a cane walking up the fairway. It was pretty obvious how much pain he was in. It was like 1988 Kirk Gibson, only instead of one at-bat it was 33 strokes on the back nine.

Wow, the articles I read the previous two days didn't mention it being so bad. I'll have to tape it tomorrow.

Tiger admitted after the round that it is getting progressively worse. It's clearly getting aggravated more as the round wears on and each day the pain increases. Amazingly gutty performance.

He needs to cut this shit out. He's the best player in the history of golf, and he doesn't need to put himself out early because he's mentally tough but not physically capable. I'm worried about him fucking up his further career over this. Just watching him slowmo swing on the knee pains me.

It's an amazing thing to watch. It's rare that you see someone so committed to his craft. Dude has eleventy billion dollars and no need to put himself at such risk, but he has such a drive to beat Nicholas on major wins (the only real measure he feels is worthy) that he is willing to gut it out.  I scared the hell out of my dog every time one of those miracles went in the hole because I was screaming so loud about how incredible the guy is.  Screw recording, watch this shit live. It is history.

I had heard that Tiger wasn't doing so good in the Open but no one bothered to mention his knee! It's good to know he wasn't just suckin'!

Guy is unreal.  Playoff tomorrow. I wonder if I can call in sick and not be too transparent.

Honestly, I like them both. I'll be happy with either man winning.

I'm not a huge golf fan but I decided I had a passing interest since the US Open is in my backyard this year; plus my folks are golfers and fans and there would be in attendance.  I literally tuned in on Saturday with the announcers writing Tiger off with the troubles he had on the early holes and his knee and watched him begin to fight all the way back.  You didn't have to be a golf fan to understand you were watching something pretty special and it was impossible to turn away.

I kept it on for most of the (6 hr?) day on Sunday as well; only slightly disappointed that it ended up a draw for a full 18 holes this morning.  Damn but that would have been cool to let them keep going on in a sudden death format; the drama was so intense.

Yeah, I'm happy to see either of these guys win it but I have to believe barring an emergency amputation of Tiger's left leg he's going to get it done.

Great run by Tiger on Saturday, but I still think Nicklaus' 30 on the back nine at Augusta at age 46 to win is the greatest stretch of golf I've ever seen. He beat Ballesteros, Kite, Norman and Watson that day.

Maybe it's the Tiger mystique and dominance but the level of competition these days doesn't seem nearly as high or consistent.

That was some awesome golf, and great plays by Mediate out of bunkers on the last few holes.

Great game, even if the USOpen.com's live feed sucked ass most of the time. Video was way behind the audio which sucked for those tense moments.

Wall Street really ground to a halt for a while there. I had a bond salesman giving me a play by play because we can't watch it at work and he had nothing else to do.

Woods wins after playing no golf on a bum knee. Granted Rocco put the screws to him, but it still proves one thing.

Turns out Woods has had a torn ACL for a year AND two stress fractures in his tibia for a month. He's now going to be out until next year including missing the Ryder Cup.

I can't figure out if that makes his Open performance all the more amazing, or all the more stupid.  I'm leaning on the former.

Since the ACL tear he has won 9 of the 12 tournaments he has played.  Maybe he should just leave it that way.

I saw it and thought, well at least he's come to his senses. There's no reason to shoot your career in the head for one year of play. Tiger Woods still has 15 solid years left in the PGA.

Yeah but when you're that dialed in I can understand him wanting to play till his leg fell off. When you get on that hot streak you have to ride it for all its worth because once its gone there's no guarantee you'll return to form. Golf history is full of guys who were never the same after a serious injury.

Hopefully he takes the time to get fully better and I really hope he did not do permanent damage with his win of the US open.

It's always golf. Wimbledon is the only tennis thing the average person recognizes.
