Title: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: Azazel on June 05, 2008, 08:15:05 PM ...that I can turn into a short stop-motion animation for a work presentation I need to do in a week or so.
Ideally, something with a Star Wars character or two or one or two of Giger's aliens or some modern-ish soldiers (or some combo I can shoehorn together), as those are the figure models available for me to work with. I'm thinking something Robot Chicken-ish, but short and amusing yet not offensive. (yeah, I know). Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: schild on June 06, 2008, 03:52:10 AM Some of us still have a sense of humor, fuckbunny. You were trolled too easily. Obviously, due to your fragile state, I'll let this one slide. There's a PBF hate thread in the comics forum. I was just fucking with you. As for OP, I suggest taking some panels from the most recent CAD comics. They deal with miscarriages. Making something funny out of that will give you personal glee. Trust me. But that, also, on it's own, is not funny. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: MrHat on June 06, 2008, 03:54:38 AM Sorry.
Text misunderstandings are ruining my life. Also. PBF comics is funny. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: schild on June 06, 2008, 03:59:10 AM PBF comics is funny. No one can trust a man on a gaming forum that doesn't play games. Also, stop trying to state lies as fact. You're killing me here. There are 1, maybe 2, funny PBF comics. One involves a weaboo. And depending on how far the third moon of Xatlu IV is from Tyquando, another involves Little Mac getting punched right in the gob by the Earth. That is fact. As such: Some PBF comics are funny. Where "some" equals "2." Meanwhile, the rest are overrated, badly drawn trashticles. But then, funny is also a sliding scale. For example, if I were homeless, watching someone's house burn down while they were trapped inside would probably be funny to me. Very funny. Especially if it was the guy who made me homeless and I didn't start the fire. In fact, that's the basis of The Sims right? Obviously funny. Now, PBF comics, you'd have to be in quite the state for it to be funny. I'd have to be doped up with all sorts of happy pills to find it funny. it's not that my bar for 'funny' is higher. I laugh at dick and fart jokes. It's just fact that PBF, as a comic, is not funny. It's sandwiched firmly between White Ninja and Mary Worth. Mary Worth being the "funniest" of the 3. Once again, sliding scale. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: MrHat on June 06, 2008, 04:02:58 AM Your funny is broken.

Post by: Margalis on June 06, 2008, 11:36:35 PM (http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/forks_and_spoons.png) Binary is not any more or less expressive than base 10. A "binary fraction" is not different from a normal fraction. What the author means here is a fraction in the form of x/2^n, AKA a fraction with a power of 2 denominator. Math nerd humor fails when the math is wrong. Also Carmen Sandiego is too hot to settle for Waldo. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... It misses more than it hits for me, but every now and again it makes me laugh. CAD is right up down with UserFriendly as some of the worst crap out there. Something I like a lot is Scary Go Round. Something about his characters / humor / artstyle tends to just work for me (warning, most recent 2 weeks he's been taking a break and the guest art is pretty bleh). Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: Quinton on June 07, 2008, 07:50:24 PM You should sit on your hands if this is some sort of a knee-jerk "HURRRR ITS A FURRY COMIC" sort of thing. VGCats has actually made me laugh a few times, CAD has never. Also the artist of VGCats can sorta draw and isn't a proven piece of human shit. Not that he isn't only batting like 4/200+. Hell, his art has actually improved quite a bit over the years (vgcats guy). That's one thing that I think differentiates the people who are actually trying from those that found their niche and are milking it for as much ad and merchandise revenue as they can get from minimal effort. Every now and again I see a UserFriendly or CAD or whatnot and it's just as uniformly awful as it was 5+ years ago. A number of webcomics I enjoy, I flip back to the archives and think "wow, he's come a long way since he started". I'm willing to forgive really cheestacular art sometimes if somehow the writing massively compensates for it, but in general a webcomic, like any other visual dealie, I sort of want to not be eye-bleedingly-awful. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: Samwise on June 07, 2008, 07:57:58 PM I'm pretty sure that if this doesn't make you laugh your funny chip is broken.

Post by: Quinton on June 07, 2008, 08:04:06 PM I'm pretty sure that if this doesn't make you laugh your funny chip is broken. Beat me to it. I was just flipping through the archives looking for that one. http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=200 is also a favorite of mine, but the first FF game I played was FF7, so I am probably broken. http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=96 does an unbelievable job of explaining the random party experience in FFXI (and, really, many other MMOs). "My Toes Are Cold" has become a staple among friends I gamed with. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: schild on June 08, 2008, 03:08:20 AM I think part of the problem here is that people assumed I thought CAD was funny. It's not funny. Comics don't have to be funny. Apparently webcomics mostly about gaming HAVE TO BE FUNNEH according to the loud netizens. VGCats _IS_ however supposed to be funny. Now, that Leo Used Poop comic pops up EVERY SINGLE TIME someone says it's not funny, much like the Warhammer stole from WoW PA comic. VGCats however is uniformly unfunny. 3 examples, the latter 2 in the thread not actually being funny, is a pretty bad sample from a 5+ year old webcomic.
Now, if CAD is supposed to be laugh out loud humorous, I missed the joke. I simply assumed otherwise. I throw CAD in with Questionable Content. Not necessarily supposed to be LOLLLLERIFFIC. I might be assuming incorrectly, and that's fine, because it makes them tolerable. VGCats is consistently meh. Also, nearly every single comic (of inconsistant release, fuck he's bad at keeping to ANY sort of schedule) in VGCats needs a tl;dr version. For serious. Except the poop one. Which again, is like the only funny and memorable one. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: Quinton on June 08, 2008, 05:38:17 AM I certainly don't require that everything be laugh-out-loud funny. I'm also not going spend time defending vgcats -- it amuses me every now and again, but it certainly misses more than it hits. CAD just does not impress me. Taking a quick look, I realize it is not eye-bleedingly-awful like UserFriendly (which features terrible art, terrible writing, and stupid lunix-user/fropen-source-targeted humor).

Some comics I DO like that aren't as well known: http://threepanelsoul.com/ (http://threepanelsoul.com/) No, today's isn't especially funny. But it usually makes me laugh, and there's a nice variety of art styles. Also: http://samandfuzzy.com/ (http://samandfuzzy.com/) This one is a little tough if you start from the beginning, because the first year or so was, well, really bad and had that not so subtle webcomic-about-the-author's-life thing. However, later on, the art improves dramatically as do the jokes and storylines. Some good Three Panel Souls: http://threepanelsoul.com/view.php?date=2006-11-13 (http://threepanelsoul.com/view.php?date=2006-11-13) http://threepanelsoul.com/view.php?date=2007-08-04 (http://threepanelsoul.com/view.php?date=2007-08-04) http://threepanelsoul.com/view.php?date=2007-08-24 (http://threepanelsoul.com/view.php?date=2007-08-24) http://threepanelsoul.com/view.php?date=2007-09-11 (http://threepanelsoul.com/view.php?date=2007-09-11) I'd recommend people new to Sam and Fuzzy start reading at the beginning of the Noosehead Story Arc (http://samandfuzzy.com/archive.php?comicID=566) and read the older stuff afterwards, if they like it. PvP and CAD IMHO can be funny. They can also be pompous and preachy. Luckily I don't have to pay money to read either of em, so I can read em, laugh at the funny ones, and ignore the non-funny ones. And steer well clear of their blogs. VGCats is very hit and miss. When he hits, hes fantastic. The Pacman one ie this one (http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=136) is pure art, albeit one of those melty watch Dali paintings. XKCD can be good too when they're not talking about maths problems that I just don't understand. It does make the maths nerd in my office laugh all the time though. Anyone who disagrees with these opinions is clearly a subhuman form of life and needs to DIAF. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: MrHat on June 10, 2008, 03:32:58 AM Hahaha. That pacman one is awesome, thanks for that.
I'll second LFGComic if you haven't read it yet. It's good times from beginning. Title: Re: Looking for a short, funny webcomic... Post by: cmlancas on June 10, 2008, 05:04:44 AM Here's a hilarious one from Dinosaur Comics:

Post by: Paelos on June 12, 2008, 09:32:25 PM Your personal life influences your art. That's the inevitability of artistic movements.
Still, you should realize your original goals of a webcomic, which is to make people laugh. The moment you get all Lisa Simpson on shit, you lose your stranglehold on the audience. (http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m20/r3dknight/asseffect.jpg) I'm so depressed that ME mirrors my RL. It doesn't matter what I say, I still end up with the goddamn assignment. The only difference my response made is probably described best by the Mass Effect official strat guide: Quote Some of the largest morality point payouts in Mass Effect come from using persuades at critical moments. It doesn’t matter if you utilize Charm or Intimidate: The basic outcome of a persuade is always the same. The only difference is found in the dialogue: The verbiage changes to fit with the spirit of the conversation. I felt very very down when I read that sentence. |
