Title: Guitar Hero: Metallica
Post by: Azazel on June 04, 2008, 12:09:41 AM
Guitar Hero: Metallica on the way?
A title truly worthy of the Guitar Hero name all but confirmed.

According to GameSpot, a few clever individuals have been snooping around an Activision report and unearthed the news that another solo edition of Guitar Hero is in the works. Reportedly, the hard rockers of Metallica will be the next band to be given the Guitar Hero treatment with Guitar Hero: Metallica slated to appear sometime before March 2009.

The company report states that "in fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms."

With Activision's fiscal year set to end on March 31, 2009, many believe that the title could be used to capitalise on a reported Christmas release of Guitar Hero: World Tour (aka Guitar Hero IV).

Currently, no information about track listings or other artists to appear on the title have been released.

This is the kind of game I'd download. From Napster.

Apparently the Aerosmith one also features a few other bands' tracks, but you play through the (edited and sanitized) career of the Aeros. I presume the Metallica one will be similar.

It would have to, otherwise, what would be the point?

Id buy the Metallica one if its all Ride the Lightning through Black Album.

No Load or later please.

And I would so buy a Queen or Zeppelin GH.

Of course my dream GH is basically the 80s Transformers movie soundtrack so my opinions might not matter all that much in regards to music.

Guitar Hero:  Yanni
or
Guitar Hero:  Indigo Girls

Now that's reaching your demographic!

Anyways, I'd be down for a Metallica Kill em all through Justice.  I'd probly stop playing the game after that.

And yes, GH: Queen might cause me to never leave the house again.

I almost bought GH3 tonight but after reading the set list I cringed and put it back.  Guitar Hero: Queen would give me a reason to try out this plastic instrument genre.

EDIT:  Borrowed it from a family member and fucking love it.  I have huge problems with the songs I actually know though.  It kind of pisses me off that some of the songs are actually harder to play in GH3 than they are on a real guitar (Anarchy in the UK and Paranoid especially).

GH3 has a great list overall.  Not as good a list as GH1, but GH1 is really kinda unfun in retrospect.  Medium on some of the later songs is like hard on 2-3.  That or the guitar and game are just finicky.

Post by: schild on June 06, 2008, 03:26:30 AM
Actually, it was the actual game part of GH1 that was shitty. It was just badly written code put through a blender. There's a reason GH3 is so much more technically sound than Rock Band, GH2 or GH1. It's because Neversoft absolutely thrashes Harmonix in that department. They're probably one of the best dev houses out there today to work on such a project in fact.

My favorite set list was GH2.

This comment.  I don't understand it.  What is there to be compatible with?

I got the impression he wants the GH3 DLC to be compatable with GH:Aero and GH:Metalli

They never even bothered porting all of GH1 over to GH2.  Or putting the 80s stuff on 2-3.

Which is kind of butt.  I wants my 360 Gibson controller and lovely 1080p screen for The Warrior and Take it Off and Godzilla!

I guess Activision knows they can make tons more cash with the various game releases that almost never go down in price.

Wal Mart just lowered GH2 for the 360.  To 50 bux.  Yeah.   I still bought it though.

(I could have bought a used copy with Guitar for 57... maybe 67 if an FYE 20 minutes down the highway still had them.  But I would have taken the risk of faulty disk/guitar.)

I agree that they should have ported the rest of the GH1 and 80's content over to GH2/3 on 360/PS3. I don't think it's that important that GH DLC content works across all versions.

Oh, there's a new Motorhead 3-pack for GH3.

Better yet, use the hard discs of the current consoles to make content from previous installments available in the latest one. With all of the guitar heros out there I'm becoming more and more of a disc jockey if I want to play

This I agree with but, the only GH that's not compatible is GH I, and Rock the 80's.  GH II and III and their DLC I just have to put the disc in if I want to play them, where's the fuss?

Better yet, just buy Rock Band and avoid all this nonsense.  Personally, I've given up on the GH franchise.  As a medium level player I don't really want to get into the crazy ass fretwork demographic that GH seems to consider their bread and butter, and I really don't want to be nickel and dimed like Activision is doing.  I don't want to have to wade through a sea of plastic discs to get at the songs I want to play, I'd just rather buy the songs I want.

Really? I don't anyone who doesn't like it. Kids, old people, non-gamers. I mean, just about anyone has more fun with it than me even, and I'm the gamer (who plays guitars at that).

I prefer Guitar Hero over Rock Band in most respects.  (Outside of character customization.  Is that even in the solo RB tour?)

And Rock Band is getting a sequel this winter so expect them to start pulling the same nonsense GH does.  EA?  Cmon.  We know how they are..

The problem is of my close group of friends all but one have been musicians for 15+ years and all are too snooty for music games (and rock music really).  I understand their perspective, it does feel goofy playing with plastic guitars when we have a small studio chocked full of shit, but god damnit it's fun.  I know some people at my place of work play but I'm too antisocial for that shit.

My sister would play some with me, I'm sure of that, but she's a long ways away and has a family.

Ah yeah, I get it. I was snooty about GH for awhile too. It's fun though when, umm, non-musicians and whatnot are just being goofy and having a good time. It's also good that there's a game out there that's both hardcore and accessible to people who don't play games at all (same goes for just about any karaoke or rhythm game, but Rock Band has the best concept).

I'm not so sure.  EA seems to be on a little rehabilitation jag at the moment, and with Rock Band in particular they seem to be letting Harmonix and MTV run the show.  I'm even willing to bet that they'll let you migrate Rock Band DLC over to Rock Band 2.

Of course, I'm prepared for crushing disappointment, but I actually think they may do the right thing.

I'll get right onto that. If they ever release it locally. And if it's not priced at something like a week's salary for the local release.

Good luck with those.

My roommate picked up GH: Aerosmith yesterday, and it's actually pretty awesome.  Don't get me wrong: I hate Aerosmith, and the idea of playing through their songs is repugnant, but I have to admit that the guitar lines are pretty fantastic, and translate perfectly to GH.  They're hard, too: I'm having a hell of a time beating the later-tier tracks.

My problem with the game is the fucking Aerosmith.  The non-Aerosmith songs are all great; it's nice to finally get some of The Cult in one of these games, but to get to these songs you've got to wade through all the Aerosmith nonsense.  Yeah, playwise even the Aero tracks are pretty good, but that doesn't change the fact that I still hate playing songs I don't like, and beyond a few Aerosmith songs I really don't enjoy any of them.

I'm just glad I rented this game instead of buying it, but then I'm firmly in the Rock Band camp anyway.

ETA:  Oh, and Azazel?  Neener, Neener, Neener! (http://news.filefront.com/rock-band-2-officially-announced-dlc-will-carry-over/)    :awesome_for_real:

If half the songs on a game based on a band are going to be obscure shitty mc shit shit, then just do Guitar Hero 70s. Fuckers.

Post by: Special J on July 01, 2008, 09:12:08 PM
Decided to rent it and glad I did rather than buy.  There's only 41 songs total which makes it hard for me to pay full price; especially since while I don't mind Aerosmith, I'm hardly a huge fan. I'm finding the songs pretty fun to play (keep in mind I'm in the medium/hard range, expert is supposed to be way easier than GH3).  Fine to rent for a batch of tracks to rip through over a few nights, but probably not worth buying unless you're a big Aerosmith fan or GH completist.

I have heard the Rock Band guitar works, but I haven't tried it.

To me the whole genre is sort of played-out, and it certainly doesn't help when what are expansions and DLC are being sold as full games. Now that DLC is a reality I expect a new full-price game to be a *new* game.
