Title: 2142 Patch 1.5 - Return of Wake Island
Post by: Akkori on May 31, 2008, 07:24:40 AM
It's Live, and I've been through Wake and a new one called "Operation Shingle" which is a snipers dream. Haven't played enough to offer opinions yet, but it's nice to have a couple new, free, maps!

Well, Highway Tampa was an Armored-Friendly map, and now infantry types get a couple catered to them. They are both fun though. It's nice to play Wake Island without friggin jets raping you every 27 seconds.

Wake Island is pretty fun, have only played the control point version (is there even a true titan version of it?).  I wish I could find a populated server that had all the maps in rotation.  You tend to find some that are populated, but with only a couple of maps.

I'm still don't get how the LMG's don't seem to do as well as the assult rifles for me.  I can run and gun and use less ammo to kill someone with the assult rifle, engineer rifle, recon rifle, but when I'm playing the LMG, I tend to use more ammo to kill them, which sucks when you are spraying them with ammo and hitting and they turn and kill you.  Go figure...

I've bene playing support more often now too, for the infantry scanner, and I've found the scatter you get unless you are looking through the scope is ridiculous. And heaven help you if you have to switch to the gun from something else... it takes about 17 minutes to be ready to fire.

Just ended up getting this game because it dropped to $20 for the deluxe edition. I'm enjoying it, but damn do the base weapons have some serious flaws. Get the dead drop on someone with the base sniper rifle and unless you get a lucky headshot, watch yourself reload, miss, reload and die as they pinpoint you and kill you before the sniper gnomes can prepare your killing shot.

Wake iIsland isn't getting much play. Operation Shingle seems to be more popular. Probably because Wake was never really meant for infantry, and jets in 2142 are tame (and the titan top guns are pretty good at taking the slow jets down). The only real action at Wake is at the titan flag and the 2 in the central base.

Finally got around to installing and trying to play this. It's been hung up on "contacting EA master server" for a solid 5 minutes.   :ye_gods:

mmmm..

10mins. gave up. fuck EA.

The planes in the original game (1942) were pretty slow and not real powerful unless you were a really good pilot, you could take one down with a machine gun, or snipe out the pilot. And that original Wake was so perfect, every aspect of 1942 came together on that map, you couldn't ignore any aspect or you'd lose badly. One of my favorite competitive maps.

I should probably buy 2142 at some point. I wish EA hadn't bought DICE.

BF2 version of Wake was a real jet-rape if the pilots were even decent. It also didn't help that the "anti-air" (and I use the quotation marks with the most severe sarcasm possible) guns sucked. The 2142 version is fairly lame. We need boats. And elves.

I loved Wake in 1942. It'll be interesting to try out the new version, but I don't hold out high hopes for it since there are no boats. The placement of the titans is interesting.

I can't wait to try Shingle. I maxed out both recon trees (minus the new Northern Strike stuff), so I anticipate having some fun on that map.
