Title: Will It Blend. (Summer food fun) Post by: SurfD on May 20, 2008, 07:04:55 PM So, my roomie recently got a brand new blender, and I'm about to die from fruit smoothie overdose, so I thought I would start a "liquified snacktastic recipe thread".
Anyone out there have any good blender recipes for smoothies and the like? Alcoholic or non. Title: Re: Will It Blend. (Summer food fun) Post by: Abagadro on May 20, 2008, 07:12:51 PM (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/Abagadro/small_Bassomatic.jpg)
Title: Re: Will It Blend. (Summer food fun) Post by: Samwise on May 20, 2008, 07:15:52 PM The best thing about a blender is you don't really need a recipe. Just throw stuff in there.
If you're aiming for a healthy smoothie, use a banana or two as your "base". If not, use ice cream or yogurt. After that, go to town. If you find yourself in a rut, go to a produce market, pick out a fruit you haven't tried before, and throw it in there. As for alcoholic stuff, ice + tequila + ??? = profit. Title: Re: Will It Blend. (Summer food fun) Post by: SurfD on May 20, 2008, 08:14:23 PM Well, im just looking for good combinations of stuff.
Our current staple is to fill the sucker up with mixed frozen fruit (pineapple, grape, strawberry, mellon) that we get at the store in bigass bags for good prices, add juice (iced tea, orange, peach) and blend. We tried a couple with milk, but didnt like the results (not sure if our amounts were off, or the fruits were not good combos with milk, or whatever). Title: Re: Will It Blend. Title: Re: Will It Blend. (Summer food fun) Post by: Arnold on May 20, 2008, 11:24:28 PM I've been making some occasionally of late. I use yogurt, bananas, some other kind of fruit, a little milk, and ice.
BTW, you should buy some frozen fruit. It's cheap and won't go bad because it will be conveniently stored in your freezer. Title: Re: Will It Blend. (Summer food fun) Post by: ahoythematey on May 20, 2008, 11:29:41 PM When making margaritas, use freshly squeezed lime juice. It makes a world of difference. Of course, a dedicated alcoholic doesn't give a fuck as long as they aren't weak, so YMMV.

A dash of vodka or rum for fun in the sun. Title: Re: Will It Blend. (Summer food fun) Post by: Engels on May 21, 2008, 06:39:15 AM For those of you who are lactose intolerant, try almond milk instead of soy milk. I cannot stand soy milk shakes, but almond milk shakes are surprisingly good. Favorite is banana with frozen mango chunks (available at Trader Joes).

6oz. Tequila 6oz. Triple Sec Add ice to your liking and it makes Evil Margaritas. Title: Re: Will It Blend. (Summer food fun) Post by: Bunk on May 21, 2008, 03:14:54 PM Too much Triple Sec, Tequila should be 2 to 1 to it.

Ingredients (cribbed from Duke's, home of the best mai tai on the planet)- Light rum with fresh passion, orange, guava, pineapple juice and a float of dark rum If I am smart, I will get all the juices mixed up before we hit the party. However, I am a procrastinating jackass, so I will probably show up with a full shopping bag. Last time I made them they were a big hit, and the end of the night is a little hazy in my memory, so it was obviously a good time. Not blended, but still a damned fine cocktail. 1 Quart of fresh strawberries 2 Bananas Fill with apple juice Nothing else needed. Should make 4 tall servings in a standard size blender. If you want add a scoop or two of vanilla frozen yogurt or icecream to thicken. Or you can add ice if want a more frozen texture. Edit: See page 2 of attached menu for where I steal all of my ideas. Still nothing better or easier than the "classic" though. http://www.liquid-planet.com/LP/menu.pdf |
