Title: Check bridge safety!
Post by: climbjtree on May 15, 2008, 06:40:50 AM
Put in your route and then filter for "structurally deficient." Glad to see that I drive over deficient bridges all the time.

Heh, the I-90 bridge from Seattle to Bellevue is last inspected in 2005, and rated as 'functionally obsolete', but somehow 'meets minimum requirements'

Several Functionally Obsolete, but nothing deficient. Whew.

I grew up in Minneapolis.  You all know what happened there.

Who needs infrastructure!

Phoenix's bridges are in tip top shape. Of course, they were all built in the last 5 years and are all highway overpasses. But still.

I feel good about this.

Fixing infrastructure would raise my taxes. Fuck that, the government has enough of my money.  I vote down every levy or tax increase or bond issue that says it's "for the xyz" beause the funds would just be funneled to the cronies of the guy proposing the issue anyway.  It's not like they ever get repealed or fall-off, either.*

*The above is not my actual position, but the one I've heard espoused enough over the last 15 years to know why our infrastructure is failing.  I don't expect most failing or deficient bridges to be fixed within my lifetime, barring a radical reduction in labor costs or a highly unlikely swing in American mindset regarding taxes.

At least all my bridges are only functionally obsolete.  I could have told you that, though, since the one crossing the Ohio is barely wide enough for Semis to stay in their own lane. Lotta accidents on that bridge.
