They absolutely hated being called Emo. Of course, being called "Geek Rock' isn't any better.

The term was practically coined to describe Weezer originally according to what I remember reading and being told when I first heard it myself.

The original emo bands I think of are names like Sunny Day Real Estate, Christie Front Drive, Braid, etc. I think Silversun Pickups sound pretty emo but I'm too old to be qualified to say so. Weezer? I guess sometimes they are a little emo, but like someone said, more geek rock.
