I'm up for it sometime. Maybe I'll get less annoyed at being killed repeatedly in spawn by airstirkes/helis if I'm playing with people I know.

This game, would be sooooooo good, if only it didn't have auto-aim.

What are you babbling about?

Console thing, presumably.

PC version has the same aim autoadjust the console versions do. It's hilarious.

No it doesn't unless you are talking about the knife.

Even the knife doesn't auto-aim, it just has a huge, incredibly effective but point blank cone.

Knife has an "auto-facing" feature unless they got rid of it recently.

Use anything with semi-auto and pay careful attention to the way your crosshair behaves.

If you are referring to the "X" hit indicator that's not the auto-aim feature from the console.

He's referring to when you move the mouse quickly, it takes a few seconds for the crosshair to catch up. Or at least I think he is. It's particularly noticeable on red dots. That said, he's simply wrong, but that's ok.

I have never noticed such a thing and I knife like a motherfucker. It's possible that I always make sure I'm facing the person all the time though. I'm also pretty sure that considering I miss a decent deal (when you only use the knife, you're bound to miss), there's been no correction made by the game.

lol, it auto-adjusts with r_gpusync 0. It's not "mouse lag".

I didn't call it mouse lag. More like crosshair lag, as in you're already facing and pointing at where you want to shoot. I've seen no evidence of auto-aiming in the game at all, so, if you've got some, please to be sharing.

It has everything to do with mouse lag (this is from CoD2 but it has the same effect in CoD 4 though the settings are a bit different):
Quote
Update: Earl Hammon, Jr from Infinity Ward has written to me to explain the r_gpusync issue. Basically the game's developers are aware of the additional FPS possible when r_gpusync is disabled (set to 0), however because this setting controls the synchronization of the CPU and GPU (your graphics card(s)), disabling this can also introduce input (mouse/keyboard) lag. This is because your input can at times be processed by the CPU faster than it can be drawn on screen. So on balance they chose the default of r_gpusync = 3 to maintain synchronization while still giving good performance. The same situation (input lag) can occur if the 'Optimize for SLI' or r_multigpu setting is enabled.
And this still has nothing to do with the auto-aim feature on the consoles where it will "snap to" a nearby target. At this point I have to assume you are just trolling us.

Yes, because i clearly have a reputation for trolling on f13. I don't know _what_ to call it, but if a game jumps my crosshair onto a target without me moving my mouse, i call that auto-aim.

It is entirely possible that i am mistaken, and that a combination of poor crosshair updating combined with very generous hit-detection is making it look like something fishy is going on - but i'm not convinced.

So, to attempt a re-rail: is anyone playing?  I logged on for the first time ever last night and played FFA shipyard.  I can see how this mode and map combination is a great xp farm, but I'd rather not get shot in the back every fucking time I spawn.

I went from 27 to max level playing this less than 30 times. Once you get good and memorize all the best spots, you become a spawn killing nightmare.

I'm up to Master Sergeant after playing about two hours.  Thank god I've finally got martyrdom--I was getting really annoyed at being the one guy who could be spawn-killed without repercussion.

Also, is there some trick to calling in the goddamn helicopter?  I've been trying to take a look at the mini-map every few seconds after I get it--trying to time the key-press--but I swear either I get killed at the wrong time or someone else beats me to it and I'm forced to wait again.

Start slamming the coptor as the other one is going away at the end of the map.

Why are you playing this on a pc instead of Xbox360?

Free CoD4 map pack on the way for PC
New patch also on the way.

Infinity Ward has revealed that PC gamers will be getting a free map pack for their popular shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on June 5.

Unlike the console versions of the Variety Map Pack, PC users won't have to fork over any dosh for the download - thanks to a sponsorship deal with Nvidia.

Like its previous iteration, the Variety Map Pack adds four new maps to the multiplayer mix: Broadcast, Chinatown (a remake of the classic Call of Duty map), Carentan, Creek, and Killhouse.

Community Manager Robert Bowling also informed players via his blog of some extra developments in the world of CoD4:

"In addition to the map pack hitting, PC Players will be receiving the 1.6 Patch for the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare that will add support for the new maps, fix a server crash exploit recently reported by the community, and a few additional features / bug fixes."
