Title: Cal Ripkin's Baseball MMO Post by: Venkman on March 07, 2008, 05:59:54 AM Anyone check this out yet? (http://www.playrealbaseball.com/) I don't follow baseball, but am curious if this is any good for those who do.

I wonder if this is just the latest incarnation of that? I lost track of it a couple of years ago. Title: Re: Cal Ripkin's Baseball MMO Post by: HaemishM on March 07, 2008, 08:15:30 AM This is just Ultimate Baseball Online skinned with Ripken's name. Unless the gameplay has changed dramatically from late beta when I played, it wasn't worth more than free, and wasn't worth free when you had good games to play.
Great concept, flat execution. Title: Re: Cal Ripkin's Baseball MMO Post by: WayAbvPar on March 07, 2008, 09:37:51 AM Ah ok. I beta'ed it for awhile, but the improvements to lag and gameplay were few and far between, so I finally lost interest.
Title: Re: Cal Ripkin's Baseball MMO Post by: HaemishM on March 07, 2008, 09:38:46 AM It was also very unfun to play with only 3 or 4 players per team and retarded AI shills in the rest of the positions. If I wasn't having so much fun with FIFA 08, TF2 or BF2, I might be tempted to try it again.

Title: Re: Cal Ripkin's Baseball MMO Post by: Velorath on March 07, 2008, 10:59:19 PM It would take Base Wars, Mutant League Sports, or Rollerball to get me interested in a sports MMO.

It would take Jesus himself, rising from where my people hid him, to come up to my door and threaten to hit me in the face with a goddamn cream pie to make me care about a sports MMOG. Unless it was made by Clap Hanz. And called Hot Shots. Ok, that last bit was a joke. Golf isn't a sport. Title: Re: Cal Ripkin's Baseball MMO Post by: cmlancas on March 08, 2008, 03:59:13 AM Hm. Wouldn't a golf MMO just be super easy to design? Maximum of four players per "instance" linked together with a leaderboard and a general chatroom (clubhouse)?

Title: Re: Cal Ripkin's Baseball MMO Post by: Falconeer on March 08, 2008, 10:10:27 AM Uh?
There are more than a few golf MMO, not so distant from what you mentioned (Pangya supports up to 80 in a single instance IIRC). Albatross 18 (Pangya!) (http://a18.ogplanet.com/) and Shot Online (http://shotonline.gamescampus.com/) being the first two that come to my mind. Title: Re: Cal Ripkin's Baseball MMO Post by: cmlancas on March 08, 2008, 02:27:26 PM I'm talking like David Ledbetter's or Tiger Woods. :awesome_for_real:

I would be interested in a MUDS, Brutal Sports or maybe even a Speedball MMO. I was looking forward to the Blood Bowl game until they announced it was turn-based. |
