Title: Romance of the Three Kingdoms Online
Post by: Velorath on February 29, 2008, 12:08:20 PM
I got a bit excited today when I read that ROTKO was launched in Japan today on the PC and PS2, especially since until that point, I had never even heard that it was in the works.  Imagine my dissapointment to find videos of it just being the same old MMORPG shit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXf-gQkgGfo) with what looks like a small amount of DAOC thrown in (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxQyj-gv_RA).  What a pointless fucking use of the franchise.  Of all the things they could have tried by bringing Romance of the Three Kingdoms online, doing an MMORPG was the limit of their vision?  I guess on the bright side, like Nobunaga's Ambition Online, and Uncharted Waters Online, this one will never make it over to the States either.

When I think of RoTK, I think of fighting copious amounts of tigers and boars.   :awesome_for_real:

When I think of RoTK

When you put it like that, I think of Dwarves, Gondor, Mount Doom, Hobbits and appendices.

Koei isn't exactly known for vision. Even that of a mole. Carving out satisfying niches; milking the teet dry -- but not being able to see beyond their own two feet.

Which is too bad. I refer to Rot3K systems quite a lot in clan/faction war design as it's one of my longest standing favoured console series. There are such a great number of routes that a genuine mmo could go down.

Yeah kinda disappointing isn't it. they've got the setting, factions all drawn out but they reverted back to the usual faction rvr and grind for exp stuff.
I'm starting to think they're just selling the setting instead of introducing new gameplay.

Popular strategy franchise turned into regular DIKU MMO? Now what on earth could've given them idea there'd be money hats in that...  :oh_i_see:
