Title: Customer Service
Post by: eldaec on February 21, 2008, 11:11:20 AM
Restaurant apologies for making lewd suggestions to customer via bill (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshire/7253002.stm)

Quote
Ten friends found the abusive and sexually-explicit message on their bill at Joe Delucci's Italian restaurant in Bird Street, Lichfield, Staffordshire.

Ms Watkin said: "I couldn't believe it. The bill read 'fish cakes', which one of us had for a starter, and it was written right above it - absolutely disgusting language.

What is fantastic about this is the 'explanation' given.

Quote
Joe Delucci's owner Mr Langsdon said the message had been meant to be seen only by kitchen staff and he did not know how it ended up as an item on the receipt.

He said: "That shouldn't come out on the bill, so we've got to find out what's gone wrong there.

Because clearly the problem to focus on here is the bill printing system....

Maybe he was just pulling a prank and wanted the person at the register to see a message he typed up?

Eh.. Not sure how it works, but perhaps it was meant to be harmless fun with a co-worker. And then it came to this.

Yeah, I used to do shit like that all the time when I was in retail.

Unless the customer was a fuck face, in which case, it's even funnier.

Having worked back of the house in a restaurant, I can completely understand how that was meant to show up on a ticket directed at someone that was completely unrelated to the customer. Pretty funny.

One of the managers at my GS had a guy come in very late one night to do a return or exchange or something. Guy didn't want to give his name for the transaction, so what does my buddy do? Write in something like "why you in here so late" for the name, which then shows up on the receipt.

I think it was actually something worse, but I cannot recall what it was. I only found out because the same person later comes back to return something from the previous transaction. He could have gotten in trouble if the guy had noticed.
