We'll see who actually remembers this.

I have no idea wtf that was... Can't be too before my time though. Looks like an 80's show.

Also, that guy who plays "Jonathan Hays" I recognize. I think he was the prick with the pastel sweater in Caddyshack 2.

Who the hell is the captain there? He looks like a suave version of Mr. Bean. As much as that's possible.

Heard of it, never seen it. That's a kickass intro tune though. And Landau is all kinds of awesome.

Hmm child labor laws seem pretty relaxed in space.

Gasp, choke, never seen it?!  How dare you sir!  Space 1999 had great actors, great sfx, great sets and the WORST writing.  Never mind the scientific impossibilities, the scripts were as dull as dishwater.  I bought a couple of episodes, thinking of reliving my youth, but I guess in my youth I never realized how fucking dull this show was.

Still wish I had my trading cards...and my die cast Eagle.....sigh

Space 1999 is serious stuff. Best space thing ever after Star Trek (Original Series).

On a less space-opera note if you missed this

you should repent.

That's Richard Benjamin. He was pretty popular in the 70s.

Said it was no longer available.  If that was Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future (the 1 frame preview part) then kick ass.
That show was actually pretty cool.
I even have one of the toy ships in working condition.  (Tested it on the VHS anime combat tapes they had.  Which had badass music and pretty great animation for 15 minute or so shooting galleries..)

J. Michael Straczynski shows are always  :awesome_for_real: - even the cartoons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1c1G24GWDg
And speaking of sci-fi kids shows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFMCJf9D8nY Puppets, space battles, the borg queen a good decade-and-ahalf before First Contact, a combining giant robot (with generic_anime_hero, comedy ginger fat kid, and big black guy with an afro as pilots), and a :rock_hard: ending theme performed by a member of The Moody Blues. What more could anyone want?  :drill:

It was Earth Star Voyager, it was from 1988, and it was FUCKED UP for a Disney production, having death, mayhem, and borg in it.  It had a young cast, but that was explained with the premise of their being on a years-spanning trip to another star, and I remember being disturbed at the time at just how screwed they were, being alone in the middle of interstellar space.

I'm glad one of you bastards finally posted it.

I fumbled into that show on mornings on Sci-Fi. I was surprised at how solid it was, despite (or perhaps because of) the rather silly costuming decisions.

I remember that! It always came down to Skydiver saving the day and getting the last UFO with its big snout missile.

Not much of a intro but the SF series closest to home ever:

I 'd Max Headroom!  I don't think I saw them fresh, but as repeats much later.  Which was nice because I'd get to see a couple at a time.  I was sad when there were no more.

Is that Dr. Phil? At 0.08 sec, the guy named Jeffrey Tambor.

I saw a few episodes of UFO when I was about 6 years old and it was both almost unbearably awesome and nightmare inducingly terrifying at the same time, it made a huge impression on me. Rented a few episodes recently and found it to be delightful (as all the other Gerry Anderson stuff), with a surpising amount of hilarity and T&A.

Oh my Goddess, I watched that show every week. I think my entire 80s teen punk phase was just a cover to emulate the moonbase hair. Best show ever!

I *almost* posted the starlost.

Harlan Ellison's story on the creation of that show was the best, ever.

First, that Earth Star Defense force thing was...bizaare. Second, I love Buck Rogers, but the version of the credits with that song is the gayest ever. The best thing they did was replacing that song with the instrumentals when the show made it past the pilot.

I actually have that show on DvD and it is amazing how hot Erin Gray was back then. She was one of two things that put me through puberty, the other being Leia in a slave bikini. I swear, Sci Fi has warped me for life.

I actually remember the series. I always wondered what had happened to it until I came across that essay. It didn't seem that bad to me when I was 8 years old.
