Title: CABAL Online - NA Open Bot... err... Beta Test on Fileplanet Now
Post by: Signe on February 07, 2008, 08:50:52 AM
I was in the Euro beta a while back.  It's grindy and cute, just like I like 'em sometimes.  Early on, however, I was no longer able to move for all the bots selling crap.  Literally could not see myself in the sea of bots.  Also, I don't like item shop games much.

Since people connect to the game servers through 'channel' they select, one way to avoid most of the shop bots is to connect to channel with low amount of people. Most shops seem to use channel 1 ("novice")

Also, in additiona to that US beta there's full time European 'free to play' game available. Though that was already reported i think..?

This game has a surprising surprise as soon as you get to level 10. I am too bored to explain right now but let's just say to tickle (?) random curiousities: PS2's Shadow Hearts Covenant

Bottom line: if you manage to try it, get to level 10 and play around with the Combo system. Surprising surprise awaits. Of the kind I would like to see in future MMORPGs.

I don't want to play, can you tell me the surprise anyway?

Combo attacks are good fun!  (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30099.html?r=1)

Having said that, it's wise to keep in mind that this game is still a mass of shitty grind.  It won't compete with most of the games you guys play,  In fact, the only ones it CAN compete with are other Korean grind fests.  My Korean grind fest character, Keke La Grind, enjoys that sort of thing once in a while, though.  (never for very long)

Looks like RFO but with a different skin.

I hate to admit I played RFO for a month.  Ugh.  What a waste of life that month was.

The catch is that combos require timing. So it's not just autoattack anymore. You are supposed to do good. A la Shadow Hearts, as I said.

I never played Shadow Hearts.

Not enough icons at the bottom of the screen.

is there some award for "interface that most resembles WoW"?  If so, I think this is a real contender....

More like contender for "the most out of date UI" award tbh. Things like inventory, quest list (with 5 active quests limit), NPC dialogues and such all appear to be hard-coded into either left or right pane, with no way to move them anywhere else. Makes it really fun when you're trying to compare attribute requirements on items in shop, in your inventory, and on your character sheet.
