Title: Ashen Temper to Bioware
Post by: waylander on February 06, 2008, 03:02:11 PM
Announcement (http://www.looking4group.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322)

He's working on an unannounced MMO as the new CM.  No offense to SBG, but I'm glad he ended up with a quality company and enjoyed working with him on SB for a few years.

Ashen Temper on the KOTOR Online team?  Nice.

Also, I would play a Mass Effect MMO.   Hook that up.

I get why everyone thinks it's going to be KOTOR online.  But I just don't see it.  I suppose that the reason I don't see it is because they haven't announced that it IS KOTOR.  But I suppose that other Star Wars MMO that's currently online right now might have something to do with the nonadmission.  Granted, if/when it comes out that what they have been working on the last couple of years ISN'T teh MMO to rule them all, the intarnet is going to explode in Star Wars nerd fury that will rival "HAN SHOT FIRST!!".  Then again, I'm the one that believes that the just announced partnership between LA and BW isn't the MMO they announced a couple years ago, but is instead a different MMO entirely based off Star Wars.

Or something.

And given that I really enjoyed ME, I could see myself playing a ME MMO.  In a heartbeat.

This is almost certainly a good thing for both parties. Erm, by both parties I mean Bioware and Ashen. Presumably not a good thing for SBG unless Ashen had a fat expense account and taste for high class hookers and cocaine.

So, from one Hero Engine game to another then?

haha, yeah, I noticed it on the referrals on my crappy blahg and figured I'd come check it out. Although I figured it had to do more with the other thread (Shadowbane Reboot). As for what the BioWare MMO is, well, I can say a lot without saying anything which will just keep the same speculations going or just say that I can't say and still come to the same result. Hopefully it won't be too much longer until something more is announced; you have to imagine they didn't hire me just for my sparkling personality ;)

I think the appeal of a KOTOR MMO is

1) Lots of Jedis in the world
2) There is no Hero (Luke, Han, etc) to muck up the storyline.
3) More Races.  (Mandalorin TANK LFG)

I fully expect to be playing World of Kotor in 2012, when it's released.

PS.  Kotor.exe.  I Lol'd

So, that World of KOTOR...

Is that the MMO that BW has been working on since before 2006, or the 'interactive product' they announced a few months ago in the BW/LA co-op?

Guys really... Have you forgotten they're owned by EA now? World of Kotor will never see the light of day.

Isn't this basically Mass Effect + George Lucas Roayaties?

I'm convinced Mass Effect came about when a bunch of people got in a room and said 'Hey, Star Wars has a kind of awesome premise.  But then it was ruined by a douche who thought Jar Jar Binks was an awesome idea.  What would it be like with just the awesomeness and no douche?'

Spectres = Jedi, Biotics = Force, Gith = Storm Troopers, Saren = Vader.  Yeah.  I like it.  I'm willing to kick SW to the curb and embrace Mass Effect as the new canon.  WHO'S WITH ME?!

If it's a good sci-fi/fantasy game I don't really care what it is called.  Emphasis on good.  Less on DIKU.

Plus Star Wars is very black and white, good v evil. It's actually a very bland and boring setting without lightsabres to prop it up. Mass Effect has much more freedom in and of itself to do shades of gray crap, no Lucus telling you what to do, less nerd rage over new things added in, and plenty of room to move about the lore before it's clamped down. And you don't have to pay Lucus royalties so it's cheaper. The only thing it lacks is some cult followers but it's starting up a following already.

I actually like black and white / good and evil settings.  Cause you can have a story with an ending in them.  I notice that the shades-of-grey settings always have too many gratuitous plot twists, betrayals and intrigue so convoluted that not even the authors can make sense of it all, and they never end (it's always same old same old stay tuned for sequel after sequel).

Best example I guess would be film noir.  I hate it.

You can have a good story, or you can have Star Wars. I too prefer something a little more grown up with shades of grey. They don't have to have lots of sequels (doesn't Star Wars?) but if they're as good as Ashen Temper's favorite "Song of Fire and Ice" then I don't mind if they do.

Congrats and good luck to you AT.  I have high hopes for the Bioware game.  Now I'll know who's fault it is if it sucks.  Dont screw it up Temper!   *shakes fist*

:awesome_for_real:

Hey did they make you sign like 800 NDA documents before they brought you onboard and told you what the game was?  Take family as hostages?  Inject an explosive in your neck like Snake Pliskin in escape from NY?
