I'm looking for something casual that I can play in short doses while I'm waiting the 8 months it'll take Amazon to get me PotBS, and I'm sick of Dungeon Runners. I love the Final Fantasy IV art direction. I've heard the 'community' is intolerable, but I mostly play mmorpuhguhs by soloing next to other people anyway.

It was pretty cute, but I am lousy at platforms, even when they're dumbed down for MMO play. I agree, it was one of the games I felt "grind" earliest into. And the community is, well, if you're not in elementary school, you won't fit in.
If you want a freebie game, I'd suggest Sword of the New World: Grenado Espada. Free to play with cashshop and a very different kind of gameplay as you control a group of three characters (well most likely two and a healerbot) and it has that Diablo-ish thrill of killing dozens of monsters at at time. I was surprised some of my buddies who were in the army asked me to join in on this dumbfuckery.
