Anyone else make it through the last of the Dark Tower?  Finished it just recently and while I can't said I was crazy about the whole "interweave every single story i've ever done including myself into one huge series" concept, it kept me interested.  It never came across as pretentious enough to turn me off the series.  Little too much Deus Ex Machina at the end for me, as well as some characters that had potential but went nowhere, but if you hadn't read it I wont spoil it.

It was different, I'll give him that.

I am about halfway through it.  I can't seem to remember the last book.  My wife and I can't find our copy so I don't know if I read it and forgot it or never read it.  In any case, with so many flashbacks, it doesn't matter if you hadn't read any particular story or have the memory of swiss cheese.

I'm not a huge fan of the Real World intrusions into the book.

I read it. Had quite the emotional impact on me. The ending took me a couple of days to digest but in the end it seemed fitting somehow.

Yes, it did.  But i think he caved in to thown in some potential for happiness there that it could have done without just so it didn't leave too many people wrecked on the rocks of a non neatly summed happy ending.  Even so, the end smacked of a plot line straight out of ST:TNG with much more words and expressions may it do ya fine.

I can see how some people will think it's a cop out, but that related to the happy ending crew.  Long, long buildup and feeling the lack of a clean resolution.

Of course, if King now retires like he hinted at, it's a helluva way to sum up your career as a writer.  Can't honestly think of anything else that even attempted what he did.

It's worth the read through even if you're not a huge king fan, just b/c it's a very different approach.

Oh and the M Whealan art peices are nice as always.
