The one on the left is my pug terrier Fluffy, the Destroyer of Worlds (also known as the All-Humper) and the one on the right is a smooth fox terrier we call Spud (or Spuds, or Spudley). That little motherfucker has the energy and the running style of a jackrabbit.

Cut dogs. I love the names you give them. I used to have a Jack Russell and that fucker would RUN. You would never consider the notion of even passing off the leash cause he would run the minute it went to switch hands.

Cats are too awesome.  I never had any before but I'll never not have any from now on.  Maybe just YOUR cats are unawesome!  I've only ever had dogs before and they're awesome, too, but my kitties are awesomer.  - AND -  Once I had a horse and he was totally unawesome!  My sister's parrot is unawesome, as is her big lizardy thingy.  There are tons of unawesome pets but cats are not one of them.

Very cute puppy and nice cat. The cat looks like one that I used to have.

Still pulling me around like I'm the fucking sled at the Idiotrod. And as cute as ever. Now she has to fend off two little fuckers that want to either hump her (Fluffy) or just ride around on her back (Spud).

The only problem with puppies is that they grow into dogs.  My mother got a Newfoundland a couple of years ago.  Awfully cute when he was puppy-sized, but now he's the size of a small car.  And still thinks he's a puppy.   :ye_gods:

Funny, I was just thinking that the only problem with kittens is that they grow up to be cats.

I haven't got to this stage yet.  We have months to go!  I was worried that Lister's personality would change when he was altered but, I'm happy to say, it hasn't.  He's just as cute and cuddly and affectionate as ever.  Of course, I've always heard that cats can be aloof but I seem to have two that are extremely un-aloof.  Not an aloof bone in their fluffy bodies.  And I never get tired of watching them.  They do something adorable at least five times a day.  Between them and my hubby, I am constantly entertained.

My dad used to have an Alaskan Malamute. If you don't know what that is, well, they can get as big or bigger than a Great Dane in size with more muscular bodies. Playful as hell and they'll crush you. I remember the day I was standing in the backyard and looked over to see the dog. I couldn't figure out why it seemed odd that he was back there until I realized his dog house was in the front yard where we would tie him up so he wouldn't run off. He ripped the support off the porch.

I used to have a Newfie. Great dogs, I'd have one again in a heartbeat if I didn't live in a tiny apartment and spend 13 hours of each day out of the house.

I think a Newfie would be great for someone living in the Canadian wilderness, or anywhere else with lots of open space and snow.  Freezing temperatures keep them from drooling on you.

I have nothing cute at home. The best I can do is visit my friends with cats.

Right now that dog would suffer greatly. I'm right off a lake in Central Ontario and it was +13 a couple days ago. This is FREAK weather for us. It snows, melts, rains, warms up and repeats. We've never had weather like this and to be honest I miss the -20 weather, it's not the same without it. Not to mention you can't play pond hockey on water.

Yeah, it was in the 60s here last week. In Janurary. What the fuck.

Crime spiked, yahoos all over town causing mayhem. I wish my state would go into a deep freeze and never recover. My hopes are that science and government over-react to global warming and throw us into another mini-ice age. That would rock!

I always liked the name Dagmar, and she was the only one I got to name.

I rescued her from a rescue society who was poorly treating their cats. She'd been in a cage for 6 weeks, hadn't been dewormed, had a few infected cuts. The people at Petsmart were quite helpful when I brought the bolt cutters in and liberated her and about a dozen other neglected cats. She's a good cat, though she drools out of a hole in her cheek that my vet couldn't stitch.

I think the coolest cat name I've heard lately was Skillywidden, named after a song by my favorite period music band, Cantiga. I named a neighborhood cat Mr. Bartholamewmew J Squinthorpe, because he was aloof and squinty. He disappeared last year   :cry:

My kitties have their own bathroom, complete with seagrass rug in the tub.  I'm a wee bit OCD about keeping their area clean.  I use a corn based litter which is soft on their little feeties, nearly dust free and it doesn't stick to them.  I change the litter and wash the poopy box about every two weeks... if I can hold out that long.  I don't want to chance having odour problems.  I was wondering about those automated litter boxes like
Cat Genie or Litter Maid, or am I better of doing what I'm doing now.  Anyone ever use them or try them?  I've held off because I wonder about things like smells and exactly how clean I can get them. 

I will post some new pics of my Pampered Pussies when Righ tidies up his computer so we can transfer all of them. 

PS  Don't know why but my kitties take no mind of catnip.  I've tried and they don't seem interested at all.  They are NOT like me at all!

I wonder if the modify button could be replaced by a Geldon button. Perhaps that's a little too flattering, though.

My cat Desmond didn't care for catnip at all until he was about 4 years old.

As far as the automatic kitteh tools go, I've never used the robo-boxes but the cat water fountains are very cumbersome to clean out (think q-tips and toothbrushes) and the water gets scummy and gross if not kept scrupulously clean.

Oscar is down to his fighting weight of 22 lbs right now, but when he was at his peak of 25, he broke an automatic litter box. Jumped on the sliding scooprail while it was moving.

As for the water fountains, I use a drinkwell fountain. Reasonable to clean each week, uses replaceable carbon filters. And it keeps the cats from turning on the bathroom faucet full blast in the middle of the night.

I would be just as happy to have my cat turn the faucet on in the middle of the night instead of setting up camp on my wife's chest and meowing in her face. Unfortunately, he loses interest as soon as he is sated* and would forget to turn it off again.

Yeah, Righ said the old ways are the best too, and I think I agree.  We have two cats and what if they want to use the robo-poopy-box at the same time?  We'd be out several hundred bucks.  Magenta is very small and narrow but Lister is growing so fast that I swear I can see him expand. 

I am insistent on keeping the toilet lids down at all times when not in use, so no, the cats do not drink out of the toilet. But the cats would only bother me if they needed something, mostly because I didn't ignore them. As for the faucet thing, Dagmar loved to drink out of the faucet and really enjoyed to romp about in the tub when there was a shower running. He also would play fetch ad nauseum with those little "real fur" mice. I swear he was half dog. So Dagmar was always good on water, and Henry was like a camel. I swear he rarely ever drank water, but when he did... :ye_gods:

Did I mention cats are awesome?

Friends of mine had the robo-litter box and it was more of a pain than a standard old litter pan. Had to use little plastic bags that were made to fit in the pop catcher for easy cleaning, and it still managed to get litter all over the place. Plus, you could never keep a good amount of litter in the bottom it seemed, so it was like skimping on litter which is bad if kitty gets a good piss going on.

To explain: It's all of a sudden plummeted to something like -20 with wind chill here and the puppy insists my hardwood floors are a better place for him to shit on instead of the cold ground. This was our solution and it's working.

I'm really sorry about that.  I had to let my 13-year-old persion chinchilla put to sleep a few days before Christmas, and spending the last 20 minutes or so with her beforehand it was worse than I could ever have imagined.  I may be a rugby player with a reputation for getting in too many fights and that sort of stuff, but I can still cry at the memory.

My condolences. Losing one of my dogs would rip my heart out.

Malamutes are fucked-up crazy.  I've only been around a full-grown malamute once, and it was this gargantuan behemoth of a dog that was as high as my chest.  I was torn between the desire to find out whether I could climb on his back and ride him, and the fear that he might decide to eat me.  Before encountering a malamute, I'd thought that great danes were big; now I know that they're nothing special.

And they're insanely playful. That's the worst part. I recall being dragged down the street (literally) until the dog got tired. It was nice enough to lick my wounds after :awesome_for_real:

He's got nice tiger markings and looks pretty soft, a lot like my Lister.  Lister still very much has a kitten face, though.  I'm worried about him because he's lazy and is getting a fat arse.  He likes us to carry him around so he can swat at stuff from the comfort of our arms.  I don't think he'd even notice if his back legs disappeared one day.

Aww my little Goo likes to be carried around too, so he can see the ceiling better. He's pretty fit, though.  :oh_i_see:

My roomies cat has taken to punching me in the face. While I sleep. He also hid in the tub once and when I went to the washroom he punched me. I was defenseless and he disturbed my quiet time. Prick.

If I'm on the computer or phone when they happen to want attention, which is a lot, Lister head butts me in the face and Magenta stands on the keyboard, puts her little cat hands on my shoulders and looks deeply and meaningfully into my eyes.  I usually end up paying attention to them.  I'm such a push over.
