Title: Vajuras Thread - Previously known as "Marvel Universe, Gaming's Citizen Kane."
Post by: schild on January 06, 2008, 07:47:19 PM
And he's a dev, so you should believe him. Anyway, here's the basic sum of it. To put it simply, some permissions were screwed up and he's the one that deleted it. All of that is fixed now. Enjoy.

Here's his awesome MMORPG.com profile.

Here's most of the thread.
(http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/7606/f13netforumsmarvelultimyx0.png) (http://www.f13.net/images/vajuras_thread.gif)
That's a thumbnail, clicky clicky.

And here's his awesome Mobygames.com Profile (http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,165009/).

Here's an email he sent me:

Subject: Was flammed by a moderator
Quote
Hi, I am not sure if the style of your site is a
"hands off" approach or if you have certain forum
rules against personal attacks. In any case, on my
very first post, I was somewhat attacked by a
moderator in this thread,

http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=11866

I posted as "vajuras". I have attached a screenshot of
this incident just incase he tries to cover his trail
by removing my quote of his reply.

This moderator, Rasix, seems to have a really bad
temper or something.

He is not the Vajuras on Deviant Art. That one lives in Canada. This guy posts from Austin. He works for Vigil and is either working on the WH40k MMOG or that other action game. Most likely WH40k. I guess, as an MMOG centric site, we can only hope that he has someone telling him what to do, since his tastes in games seems to be... poop.

Why am I posting this? Well, it's probably stupid to do so, but mostly because he deleted it himself. And because I want people to know that there are some devs out there that never should've risen above generic IGN member. Education be damned. So, I suppose I'm making an example of him.

The thumbnail just leads to a bigger thumbnail.

No, it's the same thumbnail.

I "flammed"? Ohh k. I think I said he was either young or had bad taste in games.

Also, apparently I'm driving away advertiser payola.  Call me Gerstmann.   :awesome_for_real:

I particularly like how he makes a complete ass of himself then says, "Oh well, I'm bored now. That's why I won't reply anymore, got that? It's not because I got royally flamed and I'm ruthlessly suppressing the cognitive dissonance that tells me I might not be quite the hot turd I think myself to be. Nope, I'm bored. LATA FOOS!"

I'm actually legitimately upset over that thread.

I thought it was great fun, one of the greatest threads I've seen in months and now it's gone.  :sad_panda:

I guess maybe he got scared, even though "you can't do anything to me in RL"...?

Should we repost his mobygames proifile? - And I hope he gets the Geldon-style edit button. Just in case he comes back.

There's no reason to repost it.

His name is Richard Osborne.
He is a developer at Vigil.
He is bad at the internet.
He lives in Austin, somewhere around here:

And it would do him wise to stop pretending he's from Cryptic and just making crap up left and right considering Cryptic is in Los Gatos. 100+ Companies in Austin and he picks one we're terribly familiar with.

Are you trying to embarrass him off the internet? Or just ruin his actual career?

Not that I care, really. I prefer to think that his thread got owned by the grammar snake. "Know I do not have blog" indeed.

Oh, those screenshots missed the best part, he created a signature that said something like "What is Vigil? I am 100% Cryptic!"

CLASSIC RPG! Forget Wizardry, Bard's Tale, Fallout or anything else you THOUGHT you knew. This is it. This is a classic RPG. This is where I circle the wagons:

 :ye_gods:

How the hell did he get a "red name" in the first place? Just sign up and say "Hey, I'm a Dev!"

Maybe someone should post a couple times and show that they aren't a complete moron or have a skin that's thicker than cum-soaked tissue paper.

Could you fucking imagine a developer of ANYTHING having that attitude to negativity about what they are doing or saying when it's clear that they are fucked?  He has his head so far up his own ass that whole thread.

Anyone who has the slightest bit of integrity and professionalism would maintain a low profile as a developer.

Fuck, being a developer sucks, in my opinion. Sucks! Socially speaking, that is. Work, work, work, all cooped up and shit for 80 hours a week, making tons of cash and not having the time to do anything fun with it... Hell, not even realizing what fun there is out there, as well as all of the ass you could tap with just a flick of the money hat -- simply because you've been a dork your whole life, cracked the books in school, and went straight to a (what seemed like) dreamjob, and know little of everything else.

I say more power to anyone in that industry that wants to pop their head out of the rabbit hole every once in awhile. Internet, real world, whatever. To hell with keeping a low profile.

Just don't be a douche is all. That is the real lesson here.

I tend to agree with Stray here. We've got plenty of Devs here who aren't complete fucking idiots.

The difference is that Scott, Lum, Martin, Iain, Raph, et al interact with us like the rest of us do, pretty much as peers who happen to work in the industry. Now, okay, due to their positions in the industry they're probably less likely to be outright rude cunts (or use the word cunts) than say, Stray, or Haemish, or myself - even to something they feel is justfied, but they also don't put on airs and graces about how great they think they are because of their dev jobs while we are just lowly internet users.

Also, Stray, not sure if you saw the original (edited) posts in the original thread, but this guy was going on and on about metacritic scores. If this assclown is an example of holding metacritic up as a shining beacon...

And one more thing: I've lurked for a while and the heat that gets thrown at those guys is waaay worse than "No, I think your opinion on this game is wrong." Some of them in particular have the patience of saints. Honestly, I'm surprised Raph hasn't cussed some of you. This is Raph ->  :pedobear:

Hehe, that's pretty funny in fact. One of my best friends and co worker mostly played just a few JRPGs until a few months back, when he got seriously addicted to DoTA. Worked with him on a few smaller projects in the past and it's pretty sweet since he's one of the few who doesn't care about the game design process.

I'll give you that.  I'm probably thinking more about occupying the same space as the fans.  This community is different in that devs can post here and they're usually not after the :drill: of being a dev.  They can shoot the shit with other intellectuals and people who "get it."

But if this was in any other place that isn't as sophisticated as F13, then low profile is the way to go.

Currently, V for Vaginass is now claiming NCsoft as employer of the moment. I really wish that were true, since I would pay in blood to watch Lum calmly walk down the hall and crush his soul.

I still love that:

1) He claims to work for Cryptic AND NCsoft. At this point in time, you can't do both since CoH/V is entirely owned by NCsoft and Cryptic only have MUO announced, which NCsoft isn't involved in. NCsoft might be associated with one of Cryptic's other projects, but if that's the case, Vajuras just blew a company secret.

2) If he did work at Cryptic, it would be very possible he was working on MUO. Calling MUA a "classic RPG" and being involved in MUO certainly brings up some interesting associations.

But yeah, I trust in the IP link.

Wow, sorry I missed that original thread and the ensuing drama. Douchey minor dev who probably is more like a QA guy that gets to code the garbage collecting parts of an MMOG gets douchey on Rasix.

For the record, MUO on the Wii was everything Rasix said about the 360 version, only with tacked-on shitty waggle and worse character graphics. The game took a tried-and-true, sure-hit formula, added a ton of great character options, then passed all of that through the bland filter. Metcritic got it wrong.

The Wii version of me does have a lot of waggle.  They wanted to port me to PS3, but apparently it lacks the capacity to generate pixels of a sufficiently low resolution to represent most of the games I play.

First of all, I think I mostly reported moderators to the moderators.  I might have reported Schildy once.  I don't usually report my punter peers unless they ask me to.  Second, I don't care if you take away my report button.  I can still cut the offending post and paste it someplace else and report you to a moderator on some other board.

So there.  Bastards.

Dammit.

I once dated a go-go dancer that danced for a punk band and had a skinhead roommate. He and his friends would drop acid and watch cartoons all day. They loved me even though I had long hair because I a) was white b) had good acid c) knew most WB cartoons and d) had a box full of nazi memorabilia from an abandoned house we used to rehearse in.

Did something get deleted before Sig's post? The nonsensical thread made less sense just then.

I was prepared to give him a break and that you were all just being mean to him but then he went and said he was looking forwards to Darkfall....

This should give hope to idiots everywhere who want to be game devs.

Actually, it's a great demonstration that not everyone who works on MMOs should be posting on forums.

I really wish that were true, since I would pay in blood to watch Lum calmly walk down the hall and crush his soul.

You say this like this is not a usual occurrence!

Hey, Obama brought the donuts!

Makes me miss Dimebag. Ever see the pantera video he shot, trying to give Yngwie some donuts? Yngwie don't like no fucking donuts (though apparently he does now).

I should at least have gotten something from Signe reporting people to moderators... but then those are always false alarms anyway.

Sometimes I do a search on "WUA" and LOL at the threads I've never read/posted in.  But I don't then go and post in them, because then they'd know!  Wait...

I usually only few a small portion of the site- politics, UO Forum, and scan briefly over General.  Oh and the front page stuff.  I sometimes do a search to make sure I did not miss something, but rarely due it.
