Does this mean I need to reinstall Garry's Mod, or am I thinking of something completely different?

You need HL2, HL2 death match, Counterstrike and the SDK installed.

That should cover all the bases. Information on mod is at zombiepanic.org.

It's pretty fun, though I can see how it could get old. It's more about who you play with. The running, the screaming, and the dying is, of course, awesome.

You need HL2, HL2 death match, Counterstrike and the SDK installed.

You only need HL2 and you need the SDK Base installed.

Edit: Bhodi has it. The people make the difference. A lot of people on the server I was on were very vocal. One guy even made a point to shout out when the Super Zombie was heading our way, but he had an accent (Swede or Fin) and it sounded like he was yelling "SOUP ZOMBIE!" Soup nazi jokes aside, it was awesome. He'd flip out at the sight of the guy.

I'm just glad this is beta.

So am I the only one who had crazy missing textures, invisible walls, etc?

Also it didn't detect my steam dir, which is D:\games\steam - it installed straight away to c:\program files\steam\blah\blah - and I had to manually copy it over. Maybe that's why I'm getting so many missing textures. They messed up the steam install variable in the installer, so I'm guessing they probably messed up a variable elsewhere.

Do you have the SDK base? Sometimes missing textures are due to not having that set up properly.

Yeah, I've got all the SDK stuff installed, as well as CS:S

I cannot find any official documentation about it on their site, but some forum posts seem to indicate that you simply need to own and have HL2 installed. Does the Source Base not install as part of the HL2 installation? Installing ZP right now to see if it works with just HL2 installed.

<edit>
So installed ZP, and then clicked Launch. Steam installed Source SDK Base as needed and everything works great. Played a few rounds and not seeing what's so enthralling. Fun for a bit if you need a zombie fix, I suppose.

We made a mirror! http://itfish.net/
And another one bites the dust.

I'm surprised how hard Zombie Panic is getting hammered considering there's been some zombie mods out already (such as Zombie Master (http://www.zombiemaster.org/)).

What's this SDK thing you need?   :uhrr:

It's under the "tools tab" -- Source SDK Base

Yes, but they've universally sucked.  Especially compared to the original Zombie Panic.

I'm downloading the new ZP now.  Here's hoping it's not poop.

Or if you just click Launch for Zombie Panic, it should automatically install the SDK because it detects whether or not you have it.

It's only sorta poop, it just needs more time to work out the balance and stability issues. I can see where they are going with it and it has potential.

I crash within 10 seconds of joining a game so hopefully the next build is more stable.

Should the two threads for this mod be merged perhaps?

Title: Re: Zombie Panic
Post by: Zetleft on December 31, 2007, 08:56:36 AM
Probably.  Finally played it without crashing and was unimpressed.  Bunch of guys running around moaning in their mics about eating brains.  Until all the survivors got killed, usually took around 2 minutes.

I'm afraid it just doesn't live up to the hype. It could become good, but for now it's more of a technical beta. :/

coordination, then hole up in a room with 3+ humans, a pile of weapons and ammo on the floor. Then sit tight and wait for the zombies to get so bored out of their fucking minds that they come for you and are gunned down in the hall.

Extra points for blocking doorways with difficult geometry like chairs.

Good luck finding the fun with that..

It is, at least as much as that game can be. It's even fun for a couple of times. Then it gets really fucking boring.
