Title: For you people in Canadia... Post by: Shockeye on October 06, 2004, 05:12:02 PM You've got 10 days until the 2004 Rock Paper Scissors International World Championships (http://www.rpschamps.com/registration.html).
Quote The 2004 Rock Paper Scissors International World Championships The 2004 Rock Paper Scissors International World Championships take place on October 16, 2004 in Toronto, Canada. Up to 1,000 players will compete for $10,000 (CDN) in prize money, and the coveted Championship trophy. Rob Krueger the reigning World Champion of RPS is expected to return and defend his title. I hope Rob goes down this year. He really pissed me off last year when he basically stole the title from that.. uhhh.. other person. Quote Strategies endorsed by the World RPS Society include: Cloaking One of the first tricks learned by the novice is to hold back a throw of paper until the last possible moment to dupe an opponent into believing that you may actually be throwing a rock. This allows you the extra few milliseconds for fine-tuning your approach and delivery. Both paper and scissors have this ability, however unless you are employing a "double-back" strategy, cloaking a paper throw is likely to draw an instinctive paper from your opponent (as a reply to your phantom rock). Therefore, the stalemating effect of paper cloaking has led most RPS enthusiasts to view this tactic as a very defensive move. Priming The Chump Priming the chump is the opening ritual before the actual throws are made (often referred to as "1-2-3 Shoot!"). The purpose of priming is to get both players in sync, so as to ensure a simultaneous delivery of throws. An official speed of priming has never been established by the RPS Steering Committee, nor is there an intention to ever rule on the issue. It is seen as an inherent right of the players involved to dictate their own speed of play. Priming can be used to advantage when two players meet for the first time, since it is often unclear as to what the priming speed will be. The tendency is to default to the priming speed of the faster player. This allows the faster priming player the luxury of dictating the flow of play and causes their opponent (or "the Chump") to dedicate more energy to "catching the prime" rather than concentrating on delivering an effective throw. Paper Clipping One way to consistently beat the novice is by use of a tactic known as Paper-Clipping. The goal is to draw a paper throw from your opponent in such a way as to enable you to counter with a scissors, thus, "clipping” your opponent's paper. The effective use of this strategy relies exclusively on your ability to successfully draw a paper from your opponent and should you respond with the requisite scissors, will guarantee a win every time. Nerf scissors, not only can someone hurt you but they can hurt themselves. Hey, you! Stop running! Title: For you people in Canadia... Post by: Calantus on October 07, 2004, 04:58:00 AM Rock, Paper, Scissors is too violent. Scissors and rocks can be used for murder, and rocks can even be used in riots. The references to smashing, cutting, and suffocating are also inappropriate. Until proper, child-safe alternatives can be found, I move to ban Rock, Paper, Scissors for the safety of our children. Trade embargoes should also be set up against Canada until they agree to stop this depraved practice.
Title: For you people in Canadia... Post by: Mesozoic on October 07, 2004, 05:20:39 AM I like the third "tactic" there. It basically says that if the other guy is going paper, you should stongly consider going scissors.
Yeah. Good call. Title: For you people in Canadia... Post by: Ralence on October 07, 2004, 05:29:21 AM Clearly a cry for attention from the Canadians, in a strategic maneuver to create overwhelming pity, and trick the NHL and NHLPA into signing a contract.
VIVA LA HOCKEY! Title: For you people in Canadia... Post by: schild on October 07, 2004, 05:34:11 AM (http://www.rpschamps.com/03gallery/Originals/rps2003-worldchamps-044_full.jpg)
I think these are last years world champs. Yay? Title: For you people in Canadia... Post by: NiX on October 07, 2004, 05:40:06 AM To be honest I never knew this was around. Makes it harder to be proud. God damnit. For once can we do something that isn't mediocre.
I do like the NHL/NHLPA theory though. That might be it. If it is, VIVA LA HOCKEY! Title: For you people in Canadia... Post by: Paelos on October 07, 2004, 06:30:59 AM Lisa: Poor, predictable Bart...always goes with rock

Actually, I kind of like curling. It is very soothing to watch on a Sunday morning when I am hungover, and the Canadian Women's National team captain is kind of a biscuit (at least as far as curling people go). You can catch Colleen Jones on Canada AM in the mornings if you can get CBC... Curing is actually a really fun sport to play. And um, they only do the RPS stuff in Toronto, eh? Yea thats it. It basically says that if the other guy is going paper, you should stongly consider going scissors. Yeah. Good call. The point is to INDUCE him to cast paper. Most people like to start with rock or scissors. Here's a typical sequence: 1. Rock - Rock Draw. If he had cast scissors, you'd already be up a point. Okay, now many people will naturally respond to you casting rock by trying to cast paper the following round. So now you know you can cast scissors: 2. Paper - Scissors Bingo! You got him. Now he probably won't cast paper again next round. So you cast Rock. 3. Scissors - Rock. Bang, you win. Bruce Title: For you people in Canadia... You could really get into someones head that way 'Are they going to keep doing rock? Are they going to change now? OMG WHATS HE GOING TO DO' *cackle* Title: For you people in Canadia... Quote from: Variety Fox Sports Net has chosen paper, signing on to televise the World Rock Paper Scissors Championship. The international competish, held annually by the tongue-in-cheek World RPS Society, took place in Toronto last October, but will air on Dec. 10 as part of FSN's "Best Damn Sports Show." The championship will then be repackaged into a individual special -- and possible backdoor pilot -- on Dec. 31. Title: For you people in Canadia...
