I'm not a huge photography buff or anything, but I like to take pictures of friends/when travelling, so something nice but not crazy expensive is what I'm looking for.  Something in the $200-400 range would be fine.  

I'm still upset over losing well over a thousand pictures when my hard drive fried itself a few months ago (nothing recoverable).  Think I'll get a external hard drive when I pick up the new camera...

Of course, the reason I even NEED a new camera is because my old one was stolen from my luggage while it was lost in Chicago and I was in Europe, about a month after my hard drive exploded.  

I'm going to go cry in the corner now.

I like my Canon Digital Rebel XT (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=11154) for vacation photos, but anything that size is a PITA to carry around. Nothing beats a point-n-shoot camera for good easy pictures - personally I use the Olympus Stylus (http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1313) for a pocket camera. The nice thing about the Rebel is that I can swap out lenses with it depending on what I'm snapping.

It shows a complete lack of understanding of me, or any desire to find out, even though we have lived a few short miles from each other. 
I'm not buying any of them anything this year.  And his son isn't getting anything for his birthday this year either. 

That shit ruined my first Christmas Eve where I haven't had to work in a good 6 years or more.  (Last time I was off was when Age of Empires 2 came out I think.)

I specifically told anyone who would possibly get my a gift to give me nothing. I had no intention of giving anyone anything (I like being able to pay bills, thx), and more importantly, I didn't really care to receive anything myself.

I asked my mom what she wanted, and she said her present to me was to get her nothing.

She ended up getting my Rosetta Stone - Japanese (level 1). I had told her to get me nothing, but I knew she would insist on getting Something, so I told her to get me that if anything.

Apparently, I could have weaseled a new TV out of her instead, but I'd rather she pay her bills than get me a TV. I really don't care for this holiday much anymore.

This holiday season has been kinda crappy for me personally, but this is a happy place so I will spare you the whines.

Gave a scarf to the wife.  I was going to give some singing cat toys that I found on dealextreme.com but they are sold out since I waited too long.  I suck at gifting.  A sort-of present is a new pool, which might begin being constructed this week if the mud dries out a bit.

The boy got too many things to list.  One was a SmartCycle which he loves much more than I thought he would.  He also got an air hockey table, but that's also a present for my wife and me, ho ho!

I asked for the same thing I always do, and once again didn't get it: nothing.  Instead I got two gift cards (didn't look at the value), four shirts (last year was a Pants Year), black gloves, a piece of a meteor that landed in Romania, a DVD of Bowie music videos, a Bowie CD, and a set of collapsible rubber bowls with a collander and enormous spoon.  They are red and don't match my kitchen, but that's OK.  Collapsible kitchen stuff is great.

I'm not sure I love the spoon.  I have several spoons, and this one is pretty floppy for a spoon.  It's also about two feet long.  I can't just toss it out, so it gets to live in the drawer for a while and has an opportunity to demonstrate its worth to me.  It knows I mean business since it witnessed the culling of Large Plastic Spork and Bent Potato Masher.

My mother never learns, she never fails to get me at least one kitchen gadget every year. My fiancee is smart and either looks on my amazon list (victorinox paring knife!) or sneaks a peak at the list I keep on the fridge. Anyway, mom got me some 'herb slicer' thing, which is a bunch of rotary blades on a stick. She got me one a few years ago that was like a half clamshell and I could never get the goddamned thing clean, everything just stuck inside it...really, I'm pretty good with a knife. It's fast and easy to clean.

So the herb slicer thingy sits alongside the other stuff I got that's useful. It's On Notice, and it knows it. Goddamned gadgets.

Jeremiah got a "kiddie" keyboard because he likes making music (well, he likes making noise, anyway), an interesting magnetic toy that stays out of daddy's office, a couple of "Max & Ruby" DVDs, and a few cheap plastic toys from the grandparents that pretty much broke straight out of the box.

We got a Wii in November. With our car issues ($4K in damages, most of which the insurance company refuses to pay), I told my wife that was it.

I really hate Ironing. In fact, if my pants are not....ok coming out of the dryer....they might just get washed again. Sometimes hanging them in the bathroom while I take a shower does the trick though.

No need to wash them again, just wet-down a towel and toss it in the dryer with the pants. Also, make sure you remove the pants as soon as the dry cycle is done, and they don't get wrinkled.

It's the bomb.  A linux (Xandros) laptop with OpenOffice, Mozilla/Thunderbird, Skype, etc.  "It just works".  Weighs 2 lbs.  Only drawback is a full but smallish keyboard and monitor, both of which can be swapped out with USB monitor/keyboard etc.  Best piece of kit I've seen in a long time.

The biggest problem is the battery, actually.

It's the 3300 model (http://www.corbypress.com/product_consumer.asp), though in black and wood. You can get them to hang on the wall too.

It's basically a heating pad of sorts. Takes about 30 minutes, but is safe enough to leave the pants in overnight. The thing I really like is that it maintains the creases. I used to get my pants pressed once a month or so, but I got lazy about it. And I hate ironing.

Next Christmas I'm hoping to get one that does shirts :-)

Nice!  I almost picked one of these up for myself over the holidays but decided on a bunch of games instead.  I don't have a legitimate use for one but I've wanted a god damn pocket pc since I was a kid and saw Penny's computer book thing in Inspector Gadget. 

I didn't get much loot this Christmas, just some Linen.  I knew that would be the case months ago though and have spoiled myself rotten with games. 

You really never have to iron anything,  if you're good about drying to slightly damp,  removing immediately after the dryer stops, and then hanging up with the appropriate hangers.
