Title: Christmas '07 Airing of Goodwill
Post by: Samwise on December 24, 2007, 10:45:45 AM
Yep.  Still my favorite place on the Internet.

To schild: your boundless enthusiasm is what keeps this place alive.  Anyone who mocks you for it should be taken with a grain of salt.  Bacon salt, even.

To Signe, Ironwood, Yegolev, WUA, and everyone else who occasionally makes me burst into inappropriate laughter at work: thank you for brightening my days.

To geldon2.0: I sincerely congratulate and support you in making an effort to grind people's gears less.  Keep at it.

To Stray: Regarding what you said in the Hannukah thread, you gotta give me something to work with.  Steam ID?  Snail mail?  Anything?

To everyone who celebrates Christmas: Merry Christmas.

To everyone who doesn't but is in a country that does: Have a happy day off.

To everyone else: Have a nice day anyway.

Despite outward appearances, this place has kept me sane for the last 4 years. As such, thank you. All of you.

This next year has the potential to be... exciting.

That is all.

To Schild: I like that you still care, even if we disagree on what's worth going apeshit over in the gaming department. I kid because I care.
To Signe: You still crack me up for being so cherubically odd. I think I made up that word.
To Ironwood: You're a dick, but it's very funny, so it lands on the good side of things.
To Snakecharmer: Perhaps one year you'll get your Bama wish. Still I like that you're an SEC fan and care about football.
To Xanthippe: I like that you enjoy the more casual aspects of WoW and aren't afraid to tell us raiders to cram it with sunshine when we bitch.
To Mersuk: I like your Peppermint Whore avatar. Very festive.
To the Mods: You do a good job of keeping those political threads out of my face, which is nice. Kudos.
To all those who lurk: Post something already, we might like it. Unless you're under 16 or a WoW Board fan. Then don't.

Just wanted to say to schild and yoru in particular that you guys have done some amazing interviews/news stories this last year.  This has really been f13's best year (to the point where I couldn't really come up with anything to say for the festivus thread), and the site continues to improve and evolve for the better.

Despite the fact I get regularly lambasted (or perhaps because of it) I've got to say this is the most intelligent board I know on the Internet.  Keep up the good work.

Despite the fact I get regularly lambasted (or perhaps because of it) y'all offer an interesting perspective on gaming. Keep up the good posts.

He meant except you Darksign...

I'd like to say in no particular order:

I love my job so much I'm doing large parts of it while on holiday and in a different country.
I went to Vegas for a pre-Christmas holiday-inside-a-holiday last week and won enough playing poker to recoup the costs of both.
I'm spending Christmas with other people for the first time in about 5 years.
I'm having a great time on holiday but at the same time I can't wait to get home so I can get back to work.
F13 is the only forum I read (and I read about 50 or so for work and personal reasons) that routinely makes me laugh out loud, provide truly insightful commentary and makes me think about stuff I didn't even know I cared about. Keep it up Schild and the rest of you.

My life rocks frankly and I hope that all of you have a great time too.

I love that this place is so honest, and I love that despite all the stupidity here most people say something I find interesting every now and then.
I love that I've finally moved out of home.
I love these new Jesu cds I got in the mail yesterday.

I love my family and I'm looking forward to spending christmas lunch with them today.

Aww... I mostly love you all and those I don't love, I don't hate either.  Hope everyone has a wonderful time and finds the true meaning of Xmas.  I know I have.

Ah, now this thread is more my style.

Schild. Definitely take the shit with a dose of bacon salt. You're a good kid and have great taste in games that I disagree with. All the rest is ball-busting. Thanks for f13. That goes for all the guys who help out, it means a lot to a lot of people. Congrats on the diet, not that you needed it.

F13. I love that there is a place on the internet filled with people who can discuss serious issues and enjoy a good fart joke. Anyone worth talking to can appreciate both. You all rock and most of you restore my faith in humanity on a daily basis. And that's scary. I also like that this place makes me re-evaluate my own positions and thoughts on things (I actually lurk on quite a few things without weighing in!).

Signe, thanks for being Signe. You are a very silly person and silly people make the world a better place.

Stray. I think we argued a little bit this year, maybe disagreed on a few things more than we really did. Whatever happened, it's all good. Love you like a brother from another mother. Get that guitar out and get into the recording swing. Let's get a whole shitload of f13 stars this year!  :ye_gods:

"Console gamers" The pc/console debate is a joke. Stop playing into it. We live in a nirvana of gaming goodness despite the best efforts of lazy developers and EA. Personal preferences opinions about platforms don't change a thing.

Scott H. Thanks for helping me out with my video issue, that was insanely responsive. I hope you land in a good environment and make another kickass game.

Raph, thanks for inspiring me to record again. I know it's rough now, but there are great things ahead, and I owe you one for the kick in the ass, even if you don't know you did it. Now you do. Nebu and Stray and everyone else in the guitar thread, too. It's been a nice inspiration over the past year.

I've left a lot of people off, but you're all a great lot. Even the couple nutjobs, you know who you are. I'll echo Zombie Feet's post because I mostly love you all, and those I don't, I don't hate, either. Life's too short for hate and not long enough for all the love it deserves.

I hope everyone has a great holiday tomorrow and is happy and prosperous new year.

Here's some Christmas wishes to all of you, from the FUTURE, where we are already enjoying Christmas.

quick props:

schild: I want to beat you over the head with a rubber hammer on a regular basis, but you're a good guy. Thanks for f13, one of only three forums I read and the main one of those, where as mentioned, you can have intelligent discussion while calling someone an inbred motherfucker at the same time. A place where devs are treated like anyone else, rather than put on a pedestal and fellated. Got'sa love it.

Trippy: Your endless patience and help in building my computer a few months ago has really paid dividends for me. Much appreciated! Big thanks to cmlancas on that one as well.

WUA: I love your work, mate. Keep it up! More charts, more laughs, less Anakin!

Ironwood: Your bluntness is a beautiful thing to behold.

Stray and Paelos: Despite our headbutting now and then, I find I agree with you guys far more often then I disagree, and I enjoy reading both of you.

Tale, Merusk: Much like Stray and Paelos but without the headbutting, always enjoy the insights.

Haemish: Get a bloody 360 or PS3 already, man! Even I did!

Everyone else: You make up a delicious mix of intelligent conversation, entertaining fisticuffs, useful advice and general bullshit.

Have a great Christmas/day off today or tomorrow (or both)!

To F13 as a whole:  Best site on the web, bar none.  There's more diversity here than any other forum I visit, and I learn more and more everytime I load the page up.
To Schild:  Keep up the enthusiasm.  Because of you, I've branched out to other genres and games I normally wouldn't have.
To Trippy:  Thanks for answering nearly all my comp issues with endless patience.
To <BR>:  Thanks for having me in the guild.  Thanks for putting up with my endless n00bishness (especially Righ and Nebu).  Really good getting to know you on a different level than here.
To Paelos:  My SEC brotha.  Good going 'round and 'round with you in the only thread that matters.  Good luck against Hawaii.  UGA got shafted in the bowl pick.
To Signe:  You make me laugh.  Alot.
To Stray, Sky, Nebu, Raph:  Thanks for indirectly influencing me into picking up a guitar again.
To Darniaq:  Love reading your stuff.  Rarely, if ever, see 'teh hate' from you.  And in this medium, it's rare.

To everyone:  Have a Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays, and a safe and prosperous New Year to you and your loved ones.

For those of us lucky to live in the developed world, the best things in life -- good dancing, good music, good art, good sex, good friendship, good food, good books, good ideas -- are essentially free.

Hooray for being a place where snark, honesty, occasional utter depravity, and in general, a sort of malicious camaraderie lives on!

Except in the Guitar Thread, where we are all very nice people.

May all your Christmases be green.

This board rocks.  It's by far the most intelligent and mature board that I've come across, and it lacks any of the internet-creep factor that you find on other boards comprised of mostly adults (I'm looking at you, rpg.net).

Being a newcomer in a foreign country, I'm spending this Christmas alone (all the friends I've made here are going flying back home or visiting family in the countryside.  Stupid friends) and having this board to occupy my time has made it easier.  Cheers to everyone.    :-)

All,

I haven't had a chance to post as much toward the end of this year due to all the changes in my living situation and new career.

Though challenging I could not be more pleased with the changes in my life.  Change and evolution in life is a good thing, but having certain things as constants provide you with a stable and healthy base.  For me F13 is one of those things.  Even though it's not "RL", and even though my contribution to the community here is usually small - F13 is one of my lodestones when I log on to my computer everyday.  The commentary, humor and intelligent discourse (subtext: ball busting) always make me feel right at home and remind me that no matter who you are - there's always a "community" out there for you somewhere.

Happy Holidays (http://www.elfyourself.com/?id=9619972012) and best wishes in the new year.  You bastards.

- Flood

Took my son to the concert in Indy, finally got him to like some power rock and enjoy loud stuff   :woot:

Work sucked, but we saved a lot, from the heart attack, brain trauma with bleed, and even the guy who tried to hang himself, to the sick kid with fever, it was busy.

I came home to my parents who were watching my kid, and got them up, and we all opened our gifts, and all was better as I went to bed on Christmas morning.

Merry Christmas to all, can't wait to see what a ride it will be like in the next year!

I am in love with Sauced. He is hot irl and his skillz are hell of l33t.

Schild is my baby brother and I love that although he's a precocious motherfucker, I can still teach him about things like liquid smoke.

If I had known Nix when I was 20, I would have had a crush on him.

Although WAP is weird and pervy here, I know that he's actually just a big goofy kid who likes girly drinks. I've had a few with him.

Signe is my long-lost cool auntie and I wish she'd come visit me in the Great Northwest and let me cook for her and listen to her say words like "bugger" and "bollocks."

I also think her husband Righ is one of the funniest people here.

I think Sky, Ironwood (grumpy cuss) and Samwise are the cat's pajamas.

I've named enough names now that it'll seem like I'm intentionally leaving people out, but I swear I'm not. You're all pretty much aight.

F13 is awesome.  Even the douchebags here add something, giving the rest of the people an opportunity to be even more awesome.

I have had some things irritate the living shit out of me recently, but when I stop and think about it I realize that I've got it good and I don't have anything to seriously complain about.  I have my health, the best family ever, and a great job.  Also I have an awesome hobby and f13.net to go with it.
