Title: Dream of Mirror Online

Another KMMO, supposedly using a job class system similar to FF5/FFT. Anyone else play(ed) it? Downloading it now, will check it out in the morning and give my thoughts.

There is a lack of pants.  Apparently women are subjugated and unable to afford more than 6 square inches of clothing.

PM'd a review for butisitfun. Short answer: not so much.

I like the gui and mission structure. That's the long and short of it.

Oh, and Dofus has Xmas stuff, by the way.  Why bother making a new thread when we have this one?  (http://www.online-thecatsmeow.com/images/Emoticons/cid_3C3EDF47-FF59-4C95-9B49-B68DF7F67238.gif)

You are proposing we change the title to "KMMOG Catchall: Because They All Look The Same?"

I don't know, there's something socially wrong with that.

And if we had a single KMMO thread, I don't know if I'd want my name on it. Seems more Hoax's territory, I'm just a dabbler while bored from calling out sick from work.

How often do you call out sick from work that you can actually get bored doing it?

Title: Re: Dream of Mirror Online

It's not so much an often thing, just 2 days in a row. Felt like crap yesterday so I called out again. Felt fine today so rather than lay in bed miserable I spent all day F5ing the forums and getting bored with video games.

There was a time when I was totally the guy for that job, but only the half of it that involves the pvp-centric titles; I never fucked with their L2/Ragnarok clones, we all know how those are going to go.

True to my word, I downloaded and played it last night.  I killed five of those pupu thing and then, in a panic, realized that my penis was in danger of retreating permanently into my body, so I quit and uninstalled.

Also the UI sucked, unsuprisingly.  The translation was better than usual, though it had the typical KMMO issues with wrapping single words across two lines.

Title: Re: Dream of Mirror Online
Post by: schild on December 21, 2007, 01:20:38 PM
What was wrong with the UI? I liked the fact it was completely noninvasive and hideable. not to mention the game targets young'ins. I could care less about the text wrapping. It was localized by someone with a rudimentary grasp of english anyway.

Title: Re: Dream of Mirror Online
Post by: Abelian75 on December 21, 2007, 01:29:36 PM
Heh, yeah, I was being a little overcritical there, I suppose, but I can't stand the forced-use of the F-keys for abilities, for one.  And all the keybindings for the inventory and such were awkwardly chosen.  The mouselook also felt floaty as hell.

Admittedly all KMMOs have these same issues, and usually to a greater degree.  So yeah, as the sub-genre goes, it wasn't bad, perhaps better than average.  As a whole, though, blech.  Regardless of how prevalent, it's hard for me to look past seeing a word wrapped across two lines, or a line beginning with a space.  Especially in this case when, like I said, the translation is actually not that bad at all, so it's like, GAH, they were so close!

I am extremely critical in general of UI flaws (or what I perceive as flaws at least), it should be noted.  For instance, the slow-as-fuck mouselook in POTBS, combined with the overly complicated options menu for adjusting said camera movement (which still isn't sufficient to get it sped up enough/feeling right) makes me want to punch someone in the face right off the bat.

Back on topic, I like how you apparently get assigned a "destined love."

Title: Re: Dream of Mirror Online
Post by: schild on December 21, 2007, 01:32:39 PM
Well, not having the ability to rebind things is a gameplay choice, not a matter of the GUI. And yes, other hotkeys are bizarre as well. Even Mouselook is obviously not GUI as it's directly attached to action. But I didn't have a problem with it here.

When you get near one of your destined loves, you hear a heartbeat in the background. As you get closer, a red line appears between the two toons and the heart beat speeds up. My destined love had cat ears and was one of the little loli kid characters. I got the hell out of there.

Post by: Abelian75 on December 21, 2007, 02:59:55 PM
Yeah, by UI I didn't mean specifically the GUI, I just meant the whole input->what happens process, including the camera, responsiveness, keybinding choices, etc.  Wasn't talking about the visuals, which I realize the term "UI" is kinda starting to imply with all the "custom UI" stuff going on.

Well. UI does mean User Interface, after all. :|

Well. UI does mean User Interface, after all. :|

It means more than the graphical part, dawg.  Seriously!  I'm not crazy.

Course with games the line between the UI and the game itself is a lot fuzzier than with a word processor or something.  With a word processor it's very easy to say that the best UI is the one that makes what the user wants to happen, happen.  With a game you can't really say that, as part of the fun of a game IS learning how to make what you want to happen, happen.

there's really no reason to put the skill names on the hotkey bar, that's my only issue with it.
Otherwise it reminded me of COH hotbar that can I put anywhere as I like.

Recent update added pets as new time sinks, they are permanent, need to be fed and has a few types such as tanker, nuker. These are cash items only but are kinda affordable since some people are selling them for in-game gold. As they get higher they gain new abilities. Oh, ridable at 80. A giant...mechanical teddy bear that throws its head at enemies looks  :awesome_for_real:

I just love the art style of this game, WoW grew on me slowly but this game felt very bright and colourful right from start. Either you like it or you don't.

To say the least, there's some handholding in the game.

well if you are trying it out first time, lemme give you a break down on the classes, so it won't be such a terrible game:

Swordsman: Utter crap. Single target debuff and self buffs sounds good, but the lack of MP regen on melee classes dooms this class to boredom, unless you are willing to spend money on MP pots or have a good secondary class that gives MP regen, I wouldn't pick this class. However, it has 2nd highest defense in the game.

Thief: Evasion type, steals stuff, throws bolts with a minor AOE skill that is the only saving grace for party. Currently best Evasion class in the game.

Mercenary: Tank. Really tanks well with heavy armour. As a starting class armour replacements can be a problem, you spend more time getting hit than hitting anything. If anything hits anyone else in your party, taunt or whip out aoe spear. Has buffs that only works in party. Ax Merc is the solo type. Spear is the party type. Best defence in the game.

Martial Artist: I'm not too sure on these guys, people call it 'Swordsman, with more HP' and less MP issues. But the lack of armor means you bleed a lot, better grab doc secondary to compensate.

Musicians: Pure support class and the only class with pet buffs.

Wiz: Nukes, Nukes Nukes, best AOE in the game. Not very beginner friendly due to spellcasting material costs but quite good class.

Archers: Fast range attack, suffers from arrows stockpile issue that takes up inventory slots and drain their gold, but overall solid class, needs a little mp regen to shine. Pairs well with a pet.

Shaman: Pure single target magic dmg caster. A much better swordsman that doesn't melee. Has debuffs and dots. Casting does not take scrolls.

Doctors: Pretty much the heal bitch in the game, can act as a secondary to supplement classes that needs their buffs.

it's a game for stat-freaks as well.  :oh_i_see:
If you ever wished your scrapper can have dominator's crowd control skills or your controller having scrapper melee attack in COH, this game allows you to do that.  I love it, I refuse to play another MMO without this primary/secondary job system.
You never have the feeling of 'oh dear noob again' when you want to try out new builds.

I love the job class system, but I hate the basic combat. Clicking to autoattack just drives me up the wall; feels like I'm just watching.

Title: Re: Dream of Mirror Online
Post by: rk47 on January 02, 2008, 06:56:33 PM
Agreed. the pre-20 game is a little slow, but past 20 when your build starts to mature it gets better, climaxing at 30. And collapsing under the intense weight of the grind around 36+ Just like COH.

What this game just needs is a sidekick system imo.
