I hope the new trailer is just CGI and doesn't include anything in-game, I don't want them to spoil the surprise of all the tweaks they must have made to the Quake II engine in the decade they've been working on it.  This is going to :rock:.

I really don't know what to say.  Should I just laugh at the epic failure this just has to be now and save my time?

What the fuck, were there a few glimpses of gameplay in there? Honestly, doesn't look too bad. In terms of monster design.

I think what we saw was all they had to show. I don't believe that there's a game. They just spent the past several years making some really nice clips that look like they're from a game. Why do I think this? Because they say "Stay Tuned". Biggest. Joke. Ever.

It's not like this thing has been in constant development for 10 years.  I bet more realistically this particular incarnation has been in development for a year or two at most.  I actually like the fact that they have not been happy with any of the other efforts enough to slap a pricetag on it and call it a day. 

The trailer for me was about as exciting as the starcraft 2 trailer, at least Duke's one-liner was better.

You'd think they could at least recycle level design, story, gameplay mechanics, etc.

That's assuming they did ANYTHING productive in the earlier iterations.

I actually liked the trailer. I view it as more like a concept video. I like the art style and atmosphere they appear to be shooting for.

And as for game play -- fer chrissakes, it's an FPS. You're going to be running around shooting things with different kinds of guns. What do you want to know about game play that any trailer is going to be able to tell you?

They really really really should have released the 2001 game. Somewhere along the line they got lost. Duke3D has a crappy engine. It was par for the time, but pretty crappy. In 2001 that would have been fine.

Does anyone have that Duke Nukem Theme with the orchestra from the 2001 trailer? I think I'd like to add that to my music collection.

This teaser trailer? I see nothing even remotely interesting in it. The damn CGI doesn't even look that good, especially when you compare it to some of the better CGI cutscenes like Blizzard does.

Games that are developed for 5 years rarely live up to the hype. A decade long development cycle just screams "I have no idea how to design a game. Ohh look, more blow and hookers."

What will hacky video game comic and review writers have if Duke Nukem Forever finally comes out? I mean, they've already tapped the well of Portal jokes dry since they desperately cling to anything with actual humor in it.

You do have a point there. Unfortunately, the version they finally decided to release is pretty much a tarted-up version of what was already a great game, so I can't consider it a 5-year development cycle.

Is it still absolutely fantastic? Yes. But I get the feeling the reason it took so long is they could never make the version they wanted work.
