Provided they've been hand-raised, they're actually pretty friendly little guys and make great pets - if you don't mind their involuntary urination and 2 year life span. From the looks of things, these "5-times the size of city rat" guys are being compared to the average Fancy Rat. That's not too big, we once had a Norwegian Barn Rat infestation in the garage and they were not much smaller. Big as cats. (Poisoned those poor bastards out.) "Fancy Rat" I remember as a kid we had a black rat snake (about 5'-6' long). My dad and I would go to the pet store to buy "feeder mice" to feed the snake. They were about 10 cents a pop. One time we went there was another child there who wanted a "pet mouse". Sure enough it came right out of the same exact cage but this time it cost $5. Now I'm not saying your "Fancy Rat" is the same deal as the "feeder" vs. "pet" mouse but it made me laugh. I started to explain how cool the Phoenix was in the 80s, the way they killed a main character and rather than having it be a dream sequence or anything, it became a seminal plot of the series.
