Title: TF2 Game Stats
Post by: Prospero on December 09, 2007, 12:00:25 AM
Valve posted some interesting stats on TF2. What's fascinating to me is the red team routinely gets its ass handed to it on 2fort. I know blue team was the l33t team on the f13 server, but I didn't realize that was a standard community thing.

Wow. Those are incredible stats.

I'm stunned by the average lifetimes. I would have thought they'd be at least a little higher.

I don't understand it either. Red has a far superior sniper setup on 2fort compared to Blue.

So, it looks like melee weapons are somewhere around twice as likely to crit as ranged weapons...  that I did not know.

Also, scout being the most played class was a bit of a surprise.  I thought they'd be rare; less common than soldiers, for sure.

The fire axe has a range double that of any other melee weapon.  That's very good to know for those melee duels.

First time I played after I saw that I got 2 axe kills, don't think I ever even tried to hit someone with the axe before then though :p

People who play scout tend to stick as a scout. People who play Rocketman alternate between that, heavy, and demo more often than other playes switch classes.

Wrong.

The stats take into account all the games that are played.  There's lots and lots of 3-6 player servers going on, so there's lots and lots of scouts getting played.

How is that wrong? Both of the things we just said could be factors. Easily.

The newbs are fucking up the lifetime stats. Good players, depending on map and class, can live upwards of 5 minutes.

Hey, all these stats are great; where are my fucking maps?

Schild was so wrong; the community has NOT picked up the slack here.

I was going to do some work on ctf_well, but now I'm not sure where the results would get hosted so I've sort of abandoned the project.   :-P

By "hosted" I mean "run on a friendly server that I can update so I can playtest new versions with other people".  Internet storage is free, but game servers aren't, unfortunately.

Probably just as well, as I sux at teh mapping.  My main contribution to the map would be the re-invention of a blastable grate -- the secondary goal of making it look nicer would probably have been beyond me.

Odd that the average distance for the syringe gun is melee range. It's a decent medium range weapon.

I wonder if class changes are skewing the Avg. Alive Time results.

It's ok, but I find the slow speed of the syringes makes it hard to hit moving targets that are more than 30 feet away. It's like firing 50 mini-rockets, without any of the kick.

I bring the average down.

The arc is tricky.  Most people who try to use the syringe gun at any sort of range end up shooting the ground a lot.  This includes me, although I am working on it.

I can generally get the height correct, but you have to lead your shot a pretty fair amount. I pretty much suck and end up being either a second behind them or a second a head of them.

My worst class is Demoman.  I can't get the angles right and tend to forget to right click my stickies mid air for the cool moves bonus.

My least favorite is the Heavy.  To damn slow.
