Why does this game matter with TF2 sitting on my hard drive?

Yeah, schild, maybe SANTA will bring it to you.  Or perhaps Geldon was saying DON'T BUY THIS BECAWS I AM BUYING FOR YOU MY LOVE.

But I failed, again!  :ye_gods:

I was very underwhelmed by the demo, and thats the first time this has happened with a UT game for me. I honestly just dont think I have the time for it right now, what with all the other good shit. And like Ras said, if I was going to play a online shooter I'll play TK2. Or hell, Ill play Crysis.

Ill probably end up getting it for my birthday in late January or some thing when I am wearing out of some of the stuff I have now.

Terrible time for a yearly release game. Unless there had been a much larger press push and some innovation, all they can count on are the die-hards and later the "did you forget?" 's.

Perhaps this will give the modders time to really do something special BEFORE the game gets on everyone's radar.

How's the melee / hand-to-hand part of this release?

There hasn't been a UT for 3 years. What are you talking about?

God damnit I just bought 3 ps3 games and I still don't have Mass Effect or this.

Yes...2004 till 2007. Im talking about the number at the end of the title? It's like Madden 2092. All they do is update the graphics, change the controls a little and spit it back out. If there was something innovative they'd have done a media blitz on it.

The demo was nice.  Frankly, the UT3 demo turned my stomach with how floaty and easy to dodge the projectiles were.  The UT4 demo feels more like The UT2, which is pretty damn good (if not the best) in the old-school twitchy FPS genre.

No freaking doubt.

Walk into Gamestop or whatever it is up the street, intending to buy Mass Effect.

I walk out with Mass Effect AND Assassin's Creed AND Forza 2 AND the goddamn steering wheel controller.

The wife is NOT happy.

(Make that previous post of mine UT2004 versus UT3 which feels better because it closer resembles the original Unreal Tournament.  There seems to be more UT games to keep track of than my brain can comfortably accommodate.  :uhrr:)

So, how are the new vehicles?

Title: Re: Unreal Tournament Released Today Also

I no likey vehicles. But I have interest in warfare mode. I doubt Ookii will set up a server though, I don't think he likes UT2k7 so I might have to take a stab at it (lulz)

Is there a word for hitting five consecutive posts in less than twenty minutes on an active thread?

Anyone waiting for my comment on the game? *hears crickets*

Actually I really want to get my hands on the Editor and the tutorials in the Special Edition, yet like I mentioned in another post it will kill me to buy it to support Epic Games with this type of release.

Yet I cannot explain how tempting it is to give in to the evil dark side and go with it. Unlike others who were down on my statements and simply give hand jobs to Epic Games saying it will get fixed. Still waiting on if it was fixed btw.

Can we get a screenshot of the online browser, or will I go find it on another website directly after I post this?

Fwiw, I found the UT2k3 online browser a winner, over the UT2k4 online browser. I found the tabs to select each gametype simply perfect win, over the dropdown menu from UT2k4. Comment?

UT3 has a drop down menu. Not a big deal in my book.

It is.... UT and not quite UT. I've logged about 5 hours.

I have absolutely no opinion thus far.

This happens fairly regularly Nix. It's just that no one asks about roughly 90% of the games I play.

That's because no one has heard of roughly 90% of the games you play.   :rimshot:

I heard they fucked with dashing while jumping or some other crucial movement element I would remember if I remembered much about the last UT...

Its never been my favorite franchise, I'm also thinking of playing some semi-competative TF2 if they can pull some more decent maps from somewhere.

Saw this yesterday on the shelf. Me and my friend were like 'WTF?'

Flew totally under the radar for two guys who used to worship UT.

I guess all the 360 blockbusters this year kinda obscured it.

My rig is too much weaksauce to run it anyway.

I played it for like 15 minutes and then went back to playing CoD 4.

Interesting.

Modern Warfare had me hooked from mission one.

I played it start to finish on Thanksgiving.

The sniper missions blew my mind.

...

No UT3 love makes me squeamish.

I should add that there were only a handful of people playing late night (early morning) launch day so it was kind of hard to enjoy with only 8 people playing on one of the huge maps.

I like it, but I've been a fan of UT for a long while.  Haven't been playing much online because I'm currently behind a DSL connection (500kb) and on a three year old computer.  I'm pretty average, FPS-wise.  Not nearly good enough to overcome the graphic + net lag handicap, which makes playing online un-fun.

random thoughts:
I really like the necris vehicles, and the multiple capabilities of the vehicles in general (there is a dune buggy that has rocket engines on the back, when you hit the spacebar it lights the rockets off - very cool).  I think putting someone who knows what they are doing in the artillery vehicle is a bit overpowered.  Should be some way to link back to the artilliary via the camera it launches (honestly there may be and I just haven't noticed it).  Leviathan spawns a bit too quickly given it's massive amount of power.  Anti-vehicle rocket should pack a bit more punch given how long it takes to re-load.

Balance between arial, heavy armor, speed vehicles is decent.  Enough urban maps to let the on-foot player shine.  Orbs add a CTF feel to the Warfare game which I have decided whether I like or not yet (Orbs allow for instant capture of an non-controlled node).  Hoverboard is a good addition to the game.

I have to admit that a large part of why I like it because it's not army-men/realistic, which just isn't my cup of tea.

Either game-play is quicker then previous UTs (I think this is the case, since they provide a Slo-Mo modifier), or I'm slowing down.

There's lag in the menu screen.

The demo didn't impress me. I'm going to skip it entirely.

I just fired up the demo that I downloaded a few weeks ago and hadn't bothered to try.  My verdict: compared to previous UT games it's decent.  Compared to TF2 it's crap on a stick.  I'm gonna save my moneys.

From what I've heard the demo isn't really a very good indicator of the actual game's quality.

From what I've heard the demo isn't really a very good indicator of the actual game's quality.

The demos for UT2k3 and UT2k4 were almost as good as the full games were.  Buying the game was almost an afterthought because the demos were so good.  And when I bought the full games I generally ended up playing the demo maps most of the time.  As such, the UT3 demo's utter failure to entertain me does not fill me with confidence about the full game.

Yeah I remember the ut2k3 demo, fuck we played the football map like 5,000,000 times in a row...

I don't even think I bought it, I was so burned out after the demo.
