Title: Reliable information links?!?
Post by: Nebu on November 06, 2007, 10:41:04 AM
LINKS WANTED!@

I was wondering if any of you would be willing to share links for reliable WoW information sites.  I currently use the WoW wiki and Allakhazam, but would like to see more useful information about the game mechanics, etc.  Anything you're willing to share would be great.  I've also been reading the mod link from days gone past and have decided to try cartographer, auctioneer, gatherer, and a loc HUD type thing.  If you have useful info on mods that would be great too.

Thanks.

Tankspot is a great resource, but it's also an excel nightmare.

You can ditch gatherer if you have the appropriate Cartographer mods.  There is a Mining and Herbalism plugin for Cartog that does all the important stuff gatherer does with smaller memory footprint.

The addons 'Lightheaded (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7017-LightHeaded.html)' and 'TomTom (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7032-TomTom.html)' will make for fewer alt-tabs to look up quests.

I'm starting to believe that WoW has collected all of the hardcore min-maxxers that left A Tale in the Desert.

Some great links and solid info out there.  I just need more free time to sort through it!

Personally, in your position, I would ignore 90% of it.

Run screaming from anything that mentions the word "theorycraft" until and unless you're raiding and want to figure out how to improve your performance.

Leveling guides are nice for your 3-4th time through the mill, but the first few times, just get a feel for the flow of the game and follow breadcrumb quests.  They typically don't leave you hanging.

Upcoming stuff is nice to know about, but just the patch notes.  Most of the worldofraids and mmo-champion type sites focus on the newest shiny raiding gear, which means jack to you for a while.

UI enhancements can be nice, but there is another thread on it here I think, and I often just try one out when I hear about it.  One fun thing to do is go to wowace.com and browse the list.  They provide a short description on each so that you can pick out what sounds interesting.

www.elitistjerks.com is by far the best resource for any conversation related to WoW. Theorycrafting, general discussion, etc. It has it all and it's the best.

Is there any place that lists enchants and allows them to be sorted by what lvl equipment they can be put on?

I find that Allakhazam has good lists of enchants, but it's by required skill level.  You'd have to mouse over to see the required ilevel.  However, you're in luck, because it pretty much breaks down into post BC (lvl 35 requirement) and pre-BC (no requirement).

wowhead has some pretty nice filtering options.

Might be best to try there.

EDIT: wowhead does not allow that filter option, but as long as you are above iLvl 35, the only enchant you cannot do on your item is Weapon-Ececutioner, which requires iLvl 60 items.

Well, that answers one question. I'll just go look at what enchants are available.

 Thanks guys.

keep in mind, there are also some odd "enchant like" effects that dont go by the item level, but rather the enchanter level.  For example, the Leather worker leg armor kits (clefthide, cobrahide) which give crazy large stat boosts dont care what level the item is, but can only be attached to the item by a level 60 or 70 player (i think).

www.elitistjerks.com is by far the best resource for any conversation related to WoW. Theorycrafting, general discussion, etc. It has it all and it's the best.

In just wanted to second this. Also say that their forum mods are really hardcore about banning people and giving warning for crappy posts, so the good post to noise ration is very good. The problem is there is so much information it can be overwhelming. I mean there are what, 3 rogues threads, one is 150 page one is 70 pages and the other is 50 pages or so. But this is a GREAT site for Min/Maxers.

Here are two more sites.

www.maxdps.com
Its a interactive site to help you pick gear upgrades. Doesnt have all classes or specs.

For Ret Pallys.
