Title: Tags for Team Fortress 2
Post by: schild on October 24, 2007, 01:10:02 PM
I have made a file cabinet on the wiki for Team Fortress 2 Tags:

Located here (http://f13.jot.com/WikiHome/%5Btags%5D%20Team%20Fortress%202?form=%2FFileCabinet%2FFileCabinetForm&parent=%2FWikiHome&view=1).

If you don't have a login, post in the Wiki Thread stickied in general discussion.

I'll post my collection when I get home.  So far I've got the portal, the gnome,  :awesome_for_real:, and  :pedobear:.  The next time I play through Portal I'll be taking screenshots of wall art and turning those into sprays too.

If you want to make your own sprays, I highly recommend Paint .NET (http://www.getpaint.net/download.html) and VTFEdit (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=178).  Use Paint .NET to create a 256x256 image, save as PNG, then Import it in VTFEdit and save as .vtf in your tf/materials/VGUI/logos folder.(Save a copy in the UI subfolder too if you want it to show up in the in-game spray picker.)  Then pick "Import Spray" from the in-game thing and you're good to go.

You can also use the spray importer in another Source game, but IIRC it doesn't handle images with transparency, which is a bit limiting.

BTW, if anyone here knows how to make animated sprays with VTFEdit, please to be sharing this wisdom.

Do people get tricked by those sniper decoys?

Not me!  My textures are too low, I can tell right away!

My tags attached.  Filenames are pretty self-explanatory.

I want a tag of a unicorn humping a dolphin with a rainbow in the background.   Like that tattoo that I can't find in the gamer tattoo thread anymore.  I would do some googling.. but... I'm at work.    Bonus points for working f13 into the rainbow (or unicorn).

Except for the dolphin, the "Afternoon Delight" tshirt from Threadless fits the bill nicely.  Here it is as a tag.

Didn't seem to work.

Didn't have it in the right directory.  Seems to have fixed it.  Thanks Sam, it is glorious.

Is it supposed to mirror somewhat on textures? On certain walls it would project to the floor and to the ceiling.

Post by: Samwise on October 26, 2007, 01:17:47 PM
It's not "supposed" to do that but it does, usually if you spray it too close to the intersection of two surfaces (they might need to also have the same texture, I'm not sure).  After a while you tend to just avoid those spots and focus on defacing big flat walls.

I'm not going to be at the "scrim" this Sunday but I feel like we ought to have an f13 tag to represent with.  Hmm...

Please do, I've been meaning to ask about that.  With mani we can created permanent tags that show up wherever we specify on maps, we could even put the sniper spray on the sniping balcony in 2fort  :-P

Can anyone give me a link to the f13 wallpaper?  I was going to use that as a starting point but the only place it was ever linked was from that ephemeral newsbox entry.   :-P

I think we should do in-game ads.  If we're going to permanently ugly up the maps we may as well get some cash out of it.   :awesome_for_real:

Actually, I'd be all in favor of plastering ads all over every surface on Disco Party.  Those maps are all butt-ugly anyway, so no loss there.

Also, your wallpaper.  Link me it.

You want a PSD?

Also, I kinda want a "Look behind you" tag or something. But i'll tinker with it over the weekend.

EDIT: I made it look smaller but it's still fucking huge, right click and save.

I think this (http://img145.imageshack.us/my.php?image=f13tagzx5.png) will make a good tag, but I haven't tried a 512x128 one in-game yet to make sure that works.  Will play with it when I get home.

Title: Re: Tags for Team Fortress 2

I never thought of anything clever enough to do with them to justify the reduction in size that would be necessary.  Ideas?

I made an animated terry tate spray, but I used some old program that didn't let me set the pause per frame, so it moves a bit too fast.

No problem.  Want it with a transparent background?

Wouldn't it be better WITHOUT the name in it. I mean, it's obviously a panzer.

Sam yeah transparent would be cool and Schild is right no name.

Are there any tags actually in the Wiki file cabinet? I can see the area as a guest, but it is empty for me.

I want to know who had the  :awesome_for_real: tag. It was awesome for realz.

The  :awesome_for_real: tag is mine.  I've even posted it in this thread.

Panzer tag attached.  I would put it in the wiki file cabinet, but apparently my globally visible user name on there is my email address, which I do not approve of.  And there doesn't seem to be a way to change it.   :|  I've posted all the tags as attachments in this thread already, though, so anyone else who wants to put them in there should feel free.

Thanks for the animated spray link.  I need to make some sprays and this gives me a few more ideas.

The JPG import feature is sufficiently lame that it would still be worthwhile to use VTFEdit even with it working.

Really, how hard would it be to make the import feature accept transparent PNGs and animated GIFs, and automatically resize them down to fit inside the filesize limit?

I don't suppose anyone has a sequence pictures from Portal?  I'm thinking a simple animation of a rotating portal would look good.  (Since I'm somewhat lazy I figured I'd ask for starting material before photoshopping all this from scratch.)
