Looks nice, too bad there's no room for the HDD. Looks like people with ailing first generation PS2's like myself are going to have to buy the bulkier model if we want to use the HDD with any of the games that support it (FF11, SOCOM II, Resident Evil: Outbreak, etc) or might support it in the future.

Or we might have to drop another $100 on a USB hard drive.

Holy shit, that thing looks sweet.

I might seriously consider selling my current PS2 to my sister to get one of those.

Ooh, very shiny.

Anybody know the RRP of these puppies? If it's close to the normal PS2 price I'll definately be grabbing myself a pre-modded (I live in a PAL zone and often get the shaft because of it) one of these.

As an aside: is it just me who's Firefox doesn't like posting atm? Posting this from IE, it's times like this I appreciate the fact that it comes pre-installed.

I've seen elsewhere that it's $149.99, which I assume is PS2 retail.

I guess it was only a matter of time before the Atkin's diet made its way into the gaming world.

Seriously though, it looks nice, albeit a little fragile.  I think I like the original size of the PS2 better, though.

makes one wonder (having never cracked the case on my PS2 myself): Just exactly how much wasted space IS there inside the origional size model?

0 Wasted space. My brother tried to fix my buddies abused PS2. That thing is packed to the tee. Well, aside from the gaping hole under it if you don't have/need the HD.

I'll double check on the price of it at work. I do know the Nintendo DS is $199 CDN ($149 USD) which is alot better than the slated $299 CDN.

It's not that there's wasted space, it's that there's been several years of technological advancements since the original came out. I'm sure a lot of the advances from R&D of the PSP are being put into the new unit, as well.

Ahh, yeah. that could be true.  Any idea if it will be including any ot the other PSP advances?  Maybe it will play PSP games. That would be cool.

Maybe it will play PSP games.

Very unlikely, since they use custom encased media.
