Title: A couple of cool cell phone apps
Post by: Hoax on October 10, 2007, 09:48:38 AM
So I went to a cell phone focus group the other night, $100 bucks for 90min, no brainer.  Well for once there were some interesting apps worth mentioning to others.

Check out these two sites.

boopsie.com

where.com

Both are kinda cool currently, could become very cool if they catch on.  I'm not going to go into a bunch of details because they are pretty self explanatory once you check out the site.  I don't know if where will cost money, but I know boopsie is free and I think its a fairly nice setup to get access to data content efficiently.

Why is boopsie a seven character domain name if they want me to type less? Seems like a simple app, shouldn't they have spent a chunk of their funding on a 3 letter.com or .net?

I've got a 3 letter .net to sell them.

I have a phone with a T9 texting feature (I guess it's like Boopsie? Or am I missing something? It's for SMS'ing, but works for the web browser all the same), but I have it turned off. I find it to be a pain in the ass navigating through prefixes like that.

The apps on my phone seem to be able to do most of things that Where does as well, but in a less convenient/centralized fashion. Looks cool enough.

I find it laughable that people pay $300-600 for devices that have less functionality than a 386 running Windows 3.1.

It's kind of hard to be mobile with a 386 in my pocket.

A 386 that fits in your pocket and is connected wirelessly to the WWW or any other telephone isn't worth $300 bucks?

I find that thought laughable.

Not when you can get a Nokia N700 for $130.
