Heh, boss Lou(cifer) and Devil Went Down to Georgia.

Fun, I wonder if you can get a solid gold guitar in the store?

"Now, if you'll just sign this fiddle contest waiver..."

That's going to fun - I was wondering what they would choose to top Freebird.

"Rock You Like a Hurricane" and "The Metal" are going to be guilty pleasures.

Are all of those going to be original tracks? I can't remember. There are a couple of songs on there that will make me piss blood if I have to play a cover.

Also- Poison's inclusion will keep a long standing tradition of GH games making me hum shitty songs in my head for weeks on end alive.

Title: Re: GHIII Final Track Listing
Post by: Grand Design on September 21, 2007, 01:09:36 PM
I'm pretty sure that I remember that GHIII and Rock Band will use the original masters, or remasters, if available.  After the success of GHII, I believe the labels realized that they could actually make money by allowing them to be used.

Note the glaring absence of any Rush tune.  That's criminal.

But I guess my dream of duoing Bytor & The Snow Dog was always, well, a dream.  Tiny tears.  Tiny Tears.

I just can't get excited about GH3 when Rock Band is coming out so soon.  I especially don't like how they're adding asinine shit like "boss battles".  I don't want gimmicky power ups in my Guitar Hero game, thankyouverymuch, keep your Street Fighter shit out of my music games.

I'm looking forward to Knights of Cydonia, One, and Number of the Beast!  Welcome to the Jungle will be fun too.  Though I get tired of that song fast.  Just the opening BrrRrrRrRrrrp should be awesome.

I'm going to have a hard time waiting for Slayer.  I've been playing "Raining Blood" for years on the real guitar, but I think I'm going to enjoy faking it more.

Not a lot of metal on there.

Doesn't need to be. This is, by far, the best Guitar Hero track listing ever. Just needs a couple good metal songs. Also, it has The Metal, no other Metal is needed.

Not a lot of metal on there.

Uh, there's more metal on there than usual. Paranoid, Raining Blood, Number of the Beast, One, Black Sunshine, Before I Forget

If you don't like em, that's another story.

"Through the Fire and Flames" by DragonForce and "Closer" by Lacuna Coil are on the bonus list too, not really my favorite songs from either band, but they're certainly up there.

Oh, I didn't see the bonus list.

Having Bloc Party on the main list is cool enough, but I'm really impressed that they have Superbus on the bonus list (I doubt most of you would like it, it's french pop......it's just that these GH guys seem to be pretty well rounded).

Title: Re: GHIII Final Track Listing

I've been kind of in GH void, since I don't really console game very much.  However my friends had a GH party, I know geekfest, and I finally got a chance to play it.  I was hooked, the game is just too fun.  At least it's coming out on PC though, thats just great for me.

That track list is really awesome too, alot of songs on there I like.  Although no Rush, but at least they have a Blue Oyster Cult song on there.  :-D

Hold the goddamn phone - My Curse by Killswitch Engage as a bonus track?

YES. I have been air guitaring that one wondering if it would ever become a guitar hero song.

Man... This is a fucking great tracklisting. fuck. FUCK.

EDIT: Velvet Revolver, where are you? I am questioning the validity of this list, as much as I want it to be true.

I actually remember where I was when I heard that song for the first time. It was right when it was released and they played it on the radio. I was walking down 37th from my house to the Georgetown campus. I immediately went and found my friend and bandmate and babbled about how awesome it was.

the battle stuff in this game is so far from having anything in common with SF that it is silly. But I agree, the new battle stuff is just as lame as the old stuff was.

I'd love to play a tough death metal track on guitar hero.  Maybe some early deicide, suffocation, or morbid angel.  Although trying to interpret a morbid angel solo into GH notes could be pretty difficult.  Still though, it would be alot of fun.  Alas, not even a bonus track set aside for the ultimate extreme guitar-riffing genre.

Ex-lead singer from STP, Slash from GnR, a couple other over the hill rockers.  Decent music, not anything I'd buy.  Possibly download for free, but that's about it.

I believe he's talking about the mechanic where if you are playing coop multiplayer, in RB you can bring back a player that has failed their part using star power (now called "Overdrive") to do so. It means you have to choose to save it to bail out a friend, or use it for the points multiplier.

What can I say about F13?  It's really my favorite website in the entire universe!  I love the irreverent banter and sly wit these keyboard jockeys produce.  And I especially love the staff, they're AWESOME.

So they've stopped including tracks by local bands?  I can't find any mention of an actual list of bonus tracks anywhere, so it would be cool if someone could link to wherever you guys are getting your info.  If they really have stopped using the local bands, this is very sad for me.  Guitar Hero I wouldn't have been nearly addicting for me without Even Rats.

To be honest, I'm of the opposite position--some really good songs were totally ruined by the cover bands (Killing in the Name Of is just one off the top of my head)--I'm ALL for master tracks ;)

Understand that MTV owns Guitar Hero now, so with that comes all of the stink that is MTV.  Bands who have not 'made it' through the recording industry's mechanisms are probably going to be ignored.  Hence no more Rush.  The smaller, local bands are probably out too.  GHIV will have Gwen Stefani and Kelly Osbourne tracks.  Watch out for Hip Hop Hero.

I'm starting to think Rock Band will be the way to go.

Umm, you've got it wrong.  Activision still owns Red Octane, who've taken over from Guitar Hero's creators; Harmonix.  Harmonix are the ones who are in bed with EA and MTV, and they're making Rock Band.  As to the MTV stink, there hasn't been much evidence of it yet, considering that one of the first available albums will be Who's Next, one of the greatest rock albums of all time.  Then there's also Nevermind, a bunch of Grateful Dead stuff, and a whole lot of Metallica.

Oh, and the game itself comes with Tom Sawyer on it, so there is Rush in the game.  And since when did Rush somehow exemplify going outside the "industry's mechanisms"?  They're a corporate band just like any other.  Fugazi I can see, but Rush?

Title: Re: GHIII Final Track Listing
Post by: schild on October 02, 2007, 07:14:45 AM
Guitar Hero is being made by Neversoft.

Rock Band is being made by MTV and Harmonix.

Seems Big Gulp covered it, but hell, there it is, again.

Title: Re: GHIII Final Track Listing
Post by: Grand Design on October 02, 2007, 07:24:19 AM
Oh hell.  Big Gulp wins.

Activision = GHIII, MTV = Harmonix = Rock Band.

But that does undo my perspective.  Considerably.

As for Rush, I meant only that they had not used industry mechanisms to achieve fame.  They are, obviously, part of the industry.

Well, i think we all know, MTV loves to use the music from bands its doesn't support, or even play the videos for (Such as Pantera for one)...love it they do.

My metal comment was 1 part "metal snob" (Some of the tracks are not really metal, but more pop metal IMO), 1 part "There should be more" (especially at higher levels). It is a decent list, and does seem to run a decent "Taste" spectrum.

Something that is sadly lacking, no clutch.

Does anyone know if the use of real bands and masters will put an end to the [radio edit] aspect of GH in either GH3 or Rock Band? I love me some Dead Kennedys, but that Police Truck cover was awful on so many levels...

And since this is a GH3 thread..

What's the thoughts on PS2 vs Wii?
I don't own a 360, and since Sony has now invaded my Motherfucking, I won't be buying a PS3 for the forseeable future or longer.

PS2 means I already have 2 guitars, but no doanloadable tracks.
Wii means I pay a little more to get it with a guitar, though the money isn't an issue (though I'll then only have 1 guitar). Presumably there'll be some way to doanload extra tracks onto the Wii version, though..

Once GH3 is on the PC, it seems like a pretty sure thing that somebody will have a hack inside of a week that allows you to import your own songs, and inside of a month there will be a thriving tabbing community, some of whom may even produce passable work, and host it in Sweden so that all can benefit.  Good times will be had.

Or... the Signal to Noise ratios of guitar tabs and game mods will combine to create some horrible black hole that nothing useful could escape from.

I'd say this is likely not the case. Typically an indie developer will pick it up as a side project and create something useful.

StepMania is a classic example. I've played some really, really fun and well done custom ITG/DDR songs.

I'm not betting on much GH3 DLC, based on prior evidence; Rockband will pull that off (yay, MTV??). I am getting the Wii version, for online play (the system, friend codes aside, is supposed to be slick like X-Box Live, while the PS3 version isn't going to be a such, for some reason) , the rumble, and the speaker.

Rock You Like a Hurricane, The Metal and uhhhhh, 2 others.

Thoughts:
The Frets and raised bit on the yellow button need to be filed down, badly. I will have horrible hand blisters, goddamn frets aren't even necessary.
Aweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesome.

Just FYI 360 demo is dropping tomorrow. Any idea when XBL usually puts the new stuff up? Midnight or afternoon?

The demo will include:
• Even Flow (by Pearl Jam)
• Lay Down (by Priestess)
• The Metal (by Tenacious D)
• Hit Me with your Best Shot (as made famous by Pat Benatar)
• Rock You like a Hurricane (as made famous by Scorpions)
