I want a 500 GB hard drive for my 360 that lets me install games to it so I don't have to swap discs out.

So, you want a PS3. Disc swapping isn't going away though.

Uh, no.  The point was the disc swapping not the hard drive.

Yea, I figured it was, but it was best to ignore that part because it was a ridiculous pipe dream. Get a 1st Gen PSP. :P

September 11, 2007    skate    Electronic Arts    Sports
September 17, 2007    Eternal Sonata    Namco Bandai    RPG
September 25, 2007    Halo 3    Microsoft    Shooter

I don't see Lost Odyssey on there.

Passing on Stranglehold/Blue Dragon until I'm in gaming starvation.  Yah, I know they're released already. No, I'm not buying a PS3 for non exclusive titles.  And yes, my PC sucks.

Good thing I don't care that much about shooters, I'd be in some serious pain.

I dont have a ps3, and dont plan to get one soon. And why the fuck would I want Skate and TH:PG on the PC? Also, Assassins Creed is a Xbox must. Kane and Lynch and Army of Two, meh ill probably get for Xbox, Xbox coop is just so fun. And FEAR, I dont have the original, so this way if I get it on Xbox I wont have to buy it.

So, I can spend $600 or I can spend 12 hours trying to get a game to run on my PC? Nah, I'll stick with my 360. Thanks though.

Especially considering that all but a couple of multi-platform games are better on the 360 than their PS3 counterparts (in fact Tiger Woods '08 is so far the only game I've heard of that runs better on the PS3).

Wow.  The change from pushing the 360 as the 'it' machine to pimping the PS3 came pretty quickly.  ;)  I'm having a hard time deciphering why I'd play multi-platform titles on one machine instead of the other in any case, since there's damn near no difference in versions between platforms, with the exception of Madden/NCAA.

Anyway, there's a few titles coming up for the PS3 that look really good (R&C Future, LBP), but not enough of them are PS3-exclusive to warrant plunking $500 down for the privilege yet.  By waiting, I get to save $$ when the inevitable next price drop hits and get those titles as 'platinum hits' releases, so it's win-win.

As for what's going to be pwning my wallet and free time in the coming months:

September 11, 2007    skate
September 17, 2007    Eternal Sonata
October 2, 2007        Project Gotham Racing 4
October 15, 2007    Beautiful Katamari
October 23, 2007    Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation
October 29, 2007    Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
October 30, 2007    Virtua Fighter 5
November 5, 2007    Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
November 13, 2007    Army of Two
November 13, 2007    Assassin's Creed
November 13, 2007    Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
November 20, 2007    Mass Effect
November 20, 2007    Rock Band

I'm also really curious about Ubi's Naruto game, if only because it looks really sharp visually, and the idea of mapping kuji-kiri/jutsu to the sticks seems interesting.

I can't remember which game it was, Army of Two or Kane&Lynch, that only has local coop.  Which is retarded.

As for the list:

November 13, 2007    Assassin's Creed
November 20, 2007    Mass Effect

Are probably it for me.

The only thing I can see getting a PS3 for is exclusive first party games and single player only games.  Any game with a multiplayer component will be better on the 360, period.  XBL is just better than anything Sony will concoct this generation, and the fact that most PS3 gamers probably won't have a headset would be a huge problem for me in the PS3's multiplayer scene.

PSMySpace (but with avatars with poor fashion sense) + Gamertag?  Pass.  In addition, the simple menu system of XBL beats the ever loving hell out of 'walking' from place to place to accomplish stuff that they've been pushing re: Home.  I won't fault them for trying something new, but I guarantee that it's 'not for me'.

What difference does it make? At the end of the generation, the final product is what people are going to remember. I don't even see Microsoft as capable of drastically changing anything on the 360 to even compete with whatever Sony's end product might be. Also, layering your online service with a virtual world/MySpace thing is money in the goddamn sack. People eat that shit right up. Also, it'll be neat to have my PSN games in an arcade in my apartment. That sort of stuff makes me feel warm and fuzzy. One thing is for sure, I don't play enough multiplayer games to really care about the actual multiplayer stuff that much. It's everything AROUND it that matters to me.

I'm sorry, I thought that the subject under discussion was that many people would rather get the 360 version of a game with online play, because of LIVE.  I didn't realize we were talking about the legacy that each system might leave behind in about 5-7 years or so.

And really, I think people will remember LIVE's constant flood of content (they've probably gotten more demos in a couple months than the PS3 has had in it's entire lifetime so far) a lot longer than they'll remember a novelty like virtual arcade games in a virtual room.

Only if people buy the console.  I do not think this feature is a system seller.

Another thing about the cross platform stuff is that I keep hearing about PS3 games running slower than 360 games (ie the 60 v. 30 fps).  Is this just EA games and has anyone seen both to see what the difference plays like?  It's a bit worrisome.

As far as I've heard/read, only Madden/NCAA and 2K football are really impacted so badly, though I notice a distinct lack of/weakness re: AA in a lot of PS3 titles, cross-platform or not.  I really can't see too much difference in other cross-platform games that have been released.

If you don't want to communicate with other players then why are you even bothering to play a multiplayer game?

The positive experiences I've had over Live far exceed the negative ones.  For that matter, if someone is being a jackass in a game you either kick them or leave that session.  This isn't a big deal.

Our time with Kane & Lynch: Dead Men was all too brief on this occasion, but we enjoyed every minute of it. The prospect of a game that combines and improves upon the best features of Io Interactive's previous offerings is exciting to say the least, and the inclusion of a co-op mode where two very different characters often have very different objectives should add plenty of replay value. The co-op game won't support online play, unfortunately, but we're told that details of online multiplayer modes will be announced in the not-too-distant future. We look forward to bringing you more information as soon as it becomes available.

Not sure what they mean.

As much as I love my 360, just from being an owner of both, I can see the PS3 slowly bringing the iron cock of satisfaction back into dominance eventually. The hardware is most assuredly of a higher quality then the 360.

Amount of 360 games I've actually played on XBL: 1 (Marble Blast Ultra, and it was for five minutes)
Amount of PS3 games I've actually played on PSN: 1 (Warhawk)

So... yeah. As much as I love online support, I use my computer for multiplayer games. Ventrilo + established cadre of people who will play with me > XBL/PSN.

Well, I guess thats you. I played the hell out of Gears of War and Rainbow Six coop online. Had a blast doing. Some of the most fun I ever had on a console. Hell, I think one of the best was watching Big Gulp bounce a grenade off a wall, and seeing it almost slow motion right past my head and blowing up in his face. Then the rest of the people in the game making fun of him for managing to die before we had even engaged a single enemy.

IRT Hat: Looks like I can strike that one off my list then. Split screen coop sucks ass.

Am I the only one getting The Orange Box for 360?

Beautiful Katamari is a must have as well.  It will be mercilessly conquered like We <3 Katamari.  3680m Woooo!  Or was it 3860m...  Either way, it was at least 3680.  The King and Queen were rolled up together.

There's too much to buy.  Looks like the family wont be getting xmas presents.

Getting the Orange Box for anything other than PC is kinda... well... missing the point.

See, the point is Team Fortress 2, everything else is gravy.

Team Fortress 2 belongs on PC. And I don't know anyone here with a computer that can't run Source stuff. Hell, my laptop can.

The Source engine will run on a Radeon 9200. That's pretty much scrapping the bottom of the barrel for dedicated GPUs developed this century.

I still maintain that if the developers had modeled their drywall correctly that wouldn't have happened.  I was at an angle, goddamnit!

Sure sure.  TF2 is what I want from The Orange Box.  My computer can run it, but I plan on getting good at it, on the console, on the sofa.  If I'm being overly optimistic, and just get obliterated by the mousers (game after game), I'll get it for PC.  But, I don't think that'll happen.  I've learned to use a trackball, a nipple, and a touchpad to kill people, why not a controller?

If I don't have to sit at the computer desk, I wont.  As long as the option is there I guess.  I got Bioshock for the 360.  Gonna get AoC on console as well.  Not sure when my philosophy changed, a couple of years ago, that would have been heresy.

I've played pc games from the sofa for four years now. You are only tied to the computer desk because you want to be.

See, I like both but not having split screen coop is a definite negative for me. I enjoy playing Co-op with my friend in the same room.

I'm also getting like Sky. I'm buying more and more for consoles and my PC is becoming a productivity and internet surfing machine.

I've done the Lazy boy/wireless mouse and keyboard thing before and I'm personally not a fan.  It just really doesn't feel right to me, but different strokes, I guess.

As for the whole PC from the couch, I prefer to my porn station to have doors.  Plus, yah know, furniture considerations.  Not to mention having two gaming areas in the house has its benefits, especially during a new Project Runway season.

Are we having the PC-couch discussion again?  Personally, it's an ergonomic problem with using a keyboard+mouse on the sofa.  Maybe you will suggest some sort of lapboard or tray table, to which I will say: pain in the ass.  Thumbmouse?  Those fall into two categories: cheap shit or presentation devices.  I'm not casting judgement on anyone or thing here, only saying it's just not for me.

Also I agree with Rasix's points.  It's nice to have your man-cave.  Did I tell everyone how my wife was putting something on one of my shelves in my office and managed to get a nice cut on her ankle?  She shows this to me in a complaint-fashion and I just reply "Why were you in my office?"

Well, I meant an entire gamepad-friendly replacement interface from which you could run whatever games you wanted to play from your seat, jut using the gamepad.

Call of Juarez demo was terrible.   And yah, I can't even get moderately excited for Tony Hawk after playing just the skate demo.  Not going to get skate for about another week; the wait is unbearable.

Really itching for Katamari.  I expect the achievements on it to be outstanding.

Nothing that bad.  I know for my birthday that I'm getting a game I don't really want anymore.  With this season's flood, I can't afford to have games I don't really want.  That game will pay for skate.

On the other hand, I almost wish I didn't crack open my copy of Madden.  I'm just befuddled by the current state of the franchise after not owning a Madden game for the past 5 years.   :|  There's just so much new shit too.  Gyah.

Any game with a multiplayer component will be better on the 360, period.  XBL is just better than anything Sony will concoct this generation,

We need to wait until HOME drops to judge that.

You mean we have to wait until sometime after HOME drops, when all the features have finally been patched in, don't you?

Looks like I gave them too much credit.  They had to push the whole thing back until Spring 2008 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/821/821291p1.html).  Not surprising given some of the things I've heard from Beta testers.

I have to admit that coming from my point of view, (I don't own either a PS3 or an XBOX 360) I would buy a 360 WAY before I would buy a PS3. It just seems like everything I want to play is on or will be on the 360 and it has a vastly superior online infrastructure. I am actually just waiting for the new box's to come out so I can get one, cause I don't want a Halo 3 box, or an elite. But I am really excited about all the stuff I will get to play. And Virtua Fighter 5 with the current version update and online support is toooo sweet. I can't freaking wait.

Quote from: sourced wiki
Rockstar Games initially appeared to be committed to the 16 October 2007 release date. However, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter suggested that Take-Two may choose to delay the release of GTA IV in order to boost its financial results for 2008 and to avoid competing with the release of another highly anticipated title, Halo 3.[4] Rockstar responded by saying that GTA IV was still on track for release in "late October".

On 2 August 2007, Take-Two announced that Grand Theft Auto IV would miss its original release date of 16 October 2007 after all, and would be pushed back to their fiscal second quarter (February - April) of 2008.

So it was Oct 16 up until a couple months ago. My bad, I misremembered it as Nov, but I knew it was definitely to be out before xmas07. Now it's slipped.

Lots of crap has been slipping (that was not a porn industry insider joke), which irritates the crap out of me each time until I realize that I don't have time to play what I already have.  GTAIV being delayed was, in the end, just fine.

I hear ya. I've yet to finish Bioshock (almost done, though), I'm just getting into the beef of the Witcher, Kunark is right around the corner. Between those and a couple older titles I'm working through, I'm pretty well set for the rest of the year. Looking forward to GH3 on pc!

After the new year, grab a few of the titles that I didn't get (Crysis, maybe some others). Hopefully if they can ship GTA4:Console by April 08, we can get a pc version before xmas 08, Rockstar has taken 6 months for pc ports in the past. Maybe we'll see Mass Effect on the pc before the end of the decade
