Getting a new phone, the cingular/att store didn't seem to have much at all.  Only real options were:

-the huge Cingular (8575 or something) slide up phone w/ a full kb that my buddy has and isn't really my style.

-the latest razer v3 or w/e which I know I want no part of.

-overpriced iPhone, also I dislike apple.

-BB Pearl, which seems like a pretty sleek and interesting device, but I'd love to know if anyone owns or knows a friend/family/coworker who has one.

So are there other phones worth considering, money is little matter but I am using a 2yr re-up att/cingular discount so I would only consider unlocking some other company's phone if it is baby robot jesus.  I heard there is some super tight Nokia that people were importing from EU because its so cool that I want to check out.

My wife has the Blackberry Pearl and I really like it. It's small, types well enough, you can browse, does email, etc.

I was going to get an 8830 or the HTC (like the Cingular 8525) when I switch to Sprint, but now I'm going to wait until Sprint gets the Pearl in November.

Samsung A717 if you mainly just wanted a phone. I'm using the m610 through Sprint, but that's the closest equivalent. They're some of thinnest phones out there, have good screens, cameras, etc..

Speaking of that, what exactly do you want again? A phone or a PDA? I guess if you're undecided, and wanted convenience, but better than average typing capabilities, then the Pearl would probably be your thing. Kinda no frills as far as other shit goes though.

So I busted out the interwebs on this problem and I'm pretty much down to the BB Pearl versus this (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=1210).  Here's the issue though I currently have the 810i from Sony Ericsson and it has some issues like it doesn't auto format mp3's for ringtones I have to cut them up myself.  Also there is a REALLY tight black/bright green color scheme for that phone but its only available unlocked which is balls.

So yeah anyone ever used this newer SE phone?  I don't use my phone for email but I do all my reminders/day planning/calendar stuff on my phone for sure.  I don't currently carry an mp3 player around so I do occasionally listen to music via my phone but not often.  As for games, I'd rather be seen reading a book although I guess it'd be cool to put a couple of super cool phone games on.

Unfortunately I'm under a one-week deadline to get the new phone, because my little sister broke her's and I'm giving her my current one and using her phone number to re-up the plan and get the 100-200 discount on whatever I choose.

Sprint HTC Mogul. I really like mine.

He said he didn't like that form factor.

The Samsung Blackjack might be an option.

Neg, Blackjack and Moto Q are brothers in absolute trash battery life.

I just got everyone in my company Sanyo 7050s.  Rugged construction (military spec for dust, vibration, and shock).  Web and email capable.  Bluetooth.  GPS.  Great battery life, built like tanks.  Smallish, but not girly small.  So far, I love it, been my favorite phone I've ever had.  The only complaint I have with it is no camera, which can be invaluable in the event of an accident or dispute in my business.  Otherwise?  I love it.  If they come out with one with a camera, I'll exchange these.

The N95 (http://www.nseries.com/index.html#l=products,n95)?  Slick, but $750 is a bit much imo.

If you aren't doing email why get the Blackberry? If you don't need a keyboard you can get something like this:

That's actually a good phone for email. Which he said he doesn't mess with much. The Samsungs I mentioned are cooler for a basic phone. I mean, the best things that Cingular model has going for it is the Email and Windows stuff. But you'll get a better screen and camera/video out of the Samsung. The PIM features aren't top notch, but workable. Media capabilities are OK (the Cingular version is better than the Sprint one). And like I said, it's the thinnest thing around. You'll barely feel it in your pocket.

That BB Pearl is much more phone then pda, the trackball and qwerty kb setup intrigued me as well and seems to be well reviewed online.  It also would only cost me $100 w/ the re-up.  I also really should have said I'm not a huge fan of clamshell designs.  I'm super leaning towards that new Sony Ericsson 580i but I am still not quite over the fact that I can't get it in black/green.

Also I hated my Razr so I would have to be really talked into touching Motorola stuff.

You might as well look at the Blackberry Curve as well then. 

Personally, I prefer the 88x0 series, but I really am not a camera person.

The Curve is (slightly) bigger and more expensive.

That phone does look like fucking s3x but yeah $750 is stupid.

Considering plunking down dough for Neo1973 (http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/GTA02#.22Phase_2.22_.28GTA02.2C_.22Mass_Market.22.29), powered by OpenMoko. But it's release 0.01 for developers, may not even have a UI capable of making phone calls… …might have to use the phone in CLI, until consumer release. Hacking project only, but looks like all the goodness of the iPhone without the boneheaded lockin…
