Title: Monster.com hacked
Post by: Engels on August 24, 2007, 12:21:36 AM
Not sure how many of you have used this job service. I hadn't, since the 'page' I was sent to wanted a Soc Sec # and that's the one thing I am just not doing over the net; from the article, it seems that was one of the phishing pages).

Why would anyone give a job board their SSN?

I don't see the big deal, really. Submitting a resume anywhere means foregoing privacy related to information therein.

Submitting a resume usually isn't considered an invitation for widespread dissemination of personal data, installation of rogue software or threats and extortion.

Precisely why I didn't submit a resume to Monster.com when I was job hunting. Turns out it was a hacked site.
