Title: Need help finding a song. Post by: schild on August 18, 2007, 03:37:23 AM So, the radio station for whatever goddamn reason, that the song played on does not have a track listing for the 17th. There's a song that came on that I heard a lot when I was younger with a crazy (as in like 2 minute or so long) synthesize opening. It's about a boy living on his own or growing up or such. If I could remember any lyrics I'd just do a search. The singer sounds fairly generic almost elton johnish actually. It is not new wavy or gothy.
What is this goddamn song? Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: Trippy on August 18, 2007, 03:57:55 AM How high pitched is the singer's voice?
Subdivisions by Rush kind of fits the description of the song (long synth intro, song about growing up) but Geddy Lee's voice is much higher pitched than Elton's. There's also Emerson Lake and Palmer as a keyboard heavy group and Greg Lake kind of sounds like Elton though I can't think of any of their songs that fits that description. Yes is another keyboard heavy band but again the voice pitch (Jon Anderson) isn't a match. Edit: ah I know a better match -- Only Time Will Time by Asia (sung by John Wetton who has roughly the same range as Elton) Edit2: actually that's not a better match -- the chorus is too easy to remember the words to. Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: Trippy on August 18, 2007, 04:04:44 AM Of course those songs are before your time so I may be off by a generation...
Edit: there's Foreplay, Long Time by Boston though again that's before your time. Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: hal on August 18, 2007, 04:30:09 AM Name that tune? I can name that tune in 3 notes!!

Goddamnit, I should have known. Ironically, the cd is sitting on my shelf in the closet. Styx, "Fooling Yourself." Damn. Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Damn. Hehe...awesome song. Was a huge Styx fan growing up. IIRC, that's off "Pieces of Eight"--which I first got on 8-track :geezer: Edit: Might have been Cornerstone though too. Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: Signe on August 18, 2007, 02:49:17 PM I call Styx, Journey and REO Speedwagon REO Speedwagon. I can't be arsed to figure out which is which.

Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: Megrim on August 19, 2007, 12:56:41 AM Ok, i've a question on the topic: what song is playing over Neo's headphones in the Matrix, when he is asleep at his computer and just before Trinity 'knocks' on his comp?

"Dissolved Girl" by Massive Attack, it's not on the soundtrack, but it's on their album "Mezzanine". Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: Megrim on August 19, 2007, 04:27:31 AM Much

Edit: of Sigh, you're right--and I used to be a walking catalog of songs on Styx albums. double /geezer--the mind is a terrible thing, wasted. Ironically, all you had to say was "Grand Illusion" and nod the entire first two verses are looping in my head :( Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: WayAbvPar on August 20, 2007, 09:41:06 AM How can you be such an angry young man when the future looks quite bright to me?
I am gonna have that fucking song lodged in my head for weeks now. Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: Nebu on August 20, 2007, 09:47:58 AM How could I not get that based on your information-filled description?
I think I have all of Styx's cd's up to Killroy. I'm still a bit of a Tommy Shaw fan and lost interest in the band when Dennis starting taking a turn for the theatric. If you want to hear good Styx, I still like listening to "Miss America" on occasion. Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Post by: WayAbvPar on August 20, 2007, 09:50:36 AM I have always been partial to "Too Much Time On My Hands".
I've got dozens of friends and the fun never ends that is as long as I'm buying! Title: Re: Need help finding a song. Personally, I think that Styx's biggest strength was having three different lead singers, each with their own completely different style (listen to some of James DeYoung's (I think that was his name? Dennis' brother, the base player) stuff--wasn't ever their most popular works, but still damned good), and being able to manage them all in a unified band image. |
