Ordered this today from Gamestop.  Due to ship 8/14.

Actually, got two copies - my daughter today really got Harvest Moon for the first time (she's 8), and played all afternoon.  So got one for her and one for me.

There's some kind of wifi stuff in it, apparently.

I have my farm growing strawberries, just defeated the first cave, and tamed a few monsters.  One will help me on the farm by harvesting and one will fight with me.

So far, this game is making me very happy, although I will say that certain things were not easy to figure out.

Anyone else playing?

If the consensus is it's worth it to pick up, I'll drive down to EB and get it and share my thoughts.

I'm going to try and pick it up Tuesday when I attempt to get Bioshock for my PC.

I also have many veggies on my farm, have three tamed monsters and have fought the first boss a couple times (I used up the last of my hp delivering the finishing blow and am bitter). My fighting buddy is pretty weak and always gets offed by the bees on the second level of the dungeon. I guess I need to plant some food in the patch right next to the boss fight, but I'd rather just buy some food that replenishes a bit of rp.

I upgraded my axe and hammer and am happy just mining and logging, but I guess that's not really the point.  :-P

Edit: I will admit that as Xanthippe mentioned, some things are not intuitive. I have two spell books but for some reason cannot actually execute either. THe escape spell would be pretty nice (esp. since it's not supposed to use any rp), but whenever I hit "x" nothing happens (I have it equipped, so I know that's not the problem).

You might have a status spell on you (seal, I think) that prevents you from casting magic.  Look at your icons by your hp - if there's a green X thing then you have been sealed.  Fix it by going to the doctor and getting a checkup.  Buy medicine that cures seal while you're there.

To equip a magic, press L+X, pick the book, then X to set it on your X button.  (I assume you know this already - books in the library explain a lot of stuff, I think they change each day).

Yeah, I figured out the status effect was my problem. Stupid ants!

My pet bee monsters are giving me honey that sells for 300g each!

We need to get our friend codes or whatever set up so we can use the magic shell. I'll try to get mine tonight after work.

The number of females losing their minds over this game tells me I should get it.

I don't know how to use the three shells!

omg Toros cave is hard. Rilly hard. I died dead on the first little newb monsters. They cast Paralysis on me and I couldn't run or zap out of there, and they killed my pet monster instantly. Must grind in Carmite for a few levels!

So Mist is a level 4 friend and level 2 lovah, followed closely by Rosetta at 3/2. Melody is hot for me too (4/1), but only because I use her bath house every day to recharge my hp and rp. I want to marry Mei but she's a tough cookie. I give her fish every day and I think I still have a 0 for love.

She doesn't like fish.

Then why does she always tell me I should take up fishing as a hobby and say "I am honored! I love SARDINE! Knowing my tastes will do you well!"?

I just made that up.

It's a perfect game for OCD types.  Perfect.

Grow food, learn to cook, forge your own stuff, fight and tame beasts.  I'm loving this game.

I finished Toros Cave but only after farming and fighting a lot in Carmite.

Hint:  get that anti-paralysis stuff from the doc.  Also, buy Medicate spell at the library - it gets rid of status effects except seal, since you can't cast when sealed.  And don't sell honey, you can eat it so it gives you enough rps to cast medicate to get rid of nasssty status effects.

I'm ignoring the chicks for now, but some like or love me anyway, and I have no idea why.  I haven't given anyone anything.

With certain ones you build up a relationship just by doing things they have an interest in.

Basically the ladies will start loving or liking you just by talking to them at festivals and such. And I will start keeping my honey from now on!

I have a pink one and the red and black one. The case with the red and black one and the finish on that DS make it one of the best gaming systems I've owned. It's just fucking gorgeous and feels great.

I tamed a Tundra in Toros.  What an awesome pet.  He squirts water and heals me.

I tamed a Lucy. She's not good for anything but accompanying me to Carmite so I can tend to my crops unmolested, but oh well.

I expanded my house, so now I have a forge, a pharmacy and a bench to make accessories.  Mining in Clemans really pays off.  It's late fall.

I didn't realize I'm supposed to brush my monsters daily, so they still are meh about me.

About to tackle Mt. Gigant.

Where do I post my friend code?  This thread or is there another just for DS friend codes?

(And I just found out that Viva Pinata is coming to the DS - whoopie!  I don't want to buy an Xbox.)

Whoa how did you have time to get that much wood and gold? I had an out-of-town friend visiting which usurped my desire to do nothing but play RF all weekend.


I tamed a Mama in Toros and she waters my crops and shoots fireballs.  :-P

I don't have any friends.  The spouse watched the kids all weekend and everyone left me alone. 

I won a treasure hunting contest and chose a bunch of wood for a prize - late summer, I think it was.

Switch over to mining in Toros for cash.  I mean, your fields are just rune factories in the caves, (well, rune factories and providers of cooking ingredients).  Mining is where the real cash is though.  So plant whatever grows fastest and don't harvest it, just use it for rune replenishment while you mine. 

The next cave is even better for mining.  Again, same deal until you defeat the cave - plant and don't harvest, stop watering when it produces runes, just reap the runes as you need rp for mining.

The wood is the hardest part to get.

Wait, so if I don't pick my fruit and don't water it it will still just crank out runes for me every day? I have been wasting all my rp watering EVERYTHING in the damn caves just to get a few rp every other day. I have like 300 pieces of wood just from regular logging (and 2 monster huts). Every evening when it's like 9:00 and I still have half my hp I just log it all away clearing stumps to make use of the time before I go to bed.

Make sure, though, that you harvest your single-season outdoor "rune plots" before the turn of seasons otherwise they'll turn to weeds.

Yeah I always grow/harvest crops in front of my house for the food and profits, plus Rosetta loves me more when I use the ship box instead of selling at the store. I got her up to 3 love points! Plus since my Mama monster waters my crops (albeit, like a high-functioning retard - it waters the blank spots too) I don't hafta use up all my rp tending my fields.

Anyone still playing this? I had looked at it before but never got around to picking it up. Saw the positive comments here and decided I'd pick it up tonite.

Here's how you find your friend code (I had to look it up because I didn't know).

-- Enter the seashell
-- click on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection
-- back to disconnect (it has to save the info on the DS to the game card)
-- choose Friend Roster
-- choose Add

You will see your friend code on the top screen.

Boy, you weren't kidding about mining for the $$! I banked about $100K just in a few hours of grinding this evening after work! And "tomorrow" is the big treasure hunt. I'll be sure and save before bed so I can restart in case I lose.  :evil:

That said, I'm only a few days in and does anyone know how to check how much wood I have?

Yes, there's quite a few not intuitive things in this game.  I struggled to figure out how to eat things at first (but then, I don't usually read direction booklets).



Make sure you use Teleport and that cave exit spell.  You know where the thing is, right?  (If not, pm me, and I'll tell you).  If you win 2nd prize, you can get 100k wood or something like that.

--- Hit R 3 times and look at the top screen - shows date, money, house lvl, wood, monsters, feed

Hitting start is also a good way to pause the game.

Yeah, I used the Teleport trick to get to the entrance of the cave then again to my house to save the extra jog. I had a time of 49' which granted me the 1000 pieces of wood. This after I tried four or five times to find the "dead end" in Toros cave. How embarassing!  :|

You can also just touch the screen on the tab you want to look at. The tab with the veggies is the one that shows wood, money, animal feed, etc. on the top screen.

Where is everyone in the game? I saved Ceci recently from Clemens, but haven't fought the boss yet. I just started forging and stuff, but the "having to wait a week for recipe books" is getting old.

I came up with a handy trick if you take Tundr with you to caves: walk him through a patch of marsh and he'll keep buffing you while keeping himself healed while he's poisoned.

I'm almost at the third weekend of Summer (year 1) and have just started exploring the second cave. So basically way behind you and Xanthippe.

Tame the moster that shoots water at you. It looks like a blue ghost. This is Tundr.

I haven't played for a couple of weeks, so I'm still in Winter and the cave that you can only get to in winter.  Haven't beaten the boss yet.  It's also the only cave for a certain gem - I don't recall which, but if you need some let me know, I can trade them to you.

From what I can tell though, you probably can't do much with them until you get to winter anyway,  because your crafting won't be that high until then.

Flying out to the LA office next week, this will get plenty of my free time.

I just finished that cave yesterday. It is the only source for aquamarine so far (also for emeralds, but there may others). I've used it to grind out some brooches and rings, but they aren't really good for much. The boss is pretty easy. The next cave is fun.

Rosetta has 10 friendship points and 9 love points for me!! I might get hitched soon!

Why the rush?  Rumor has it that Rosetta's pretty easy.

It's also rumored that Rosetta can unlock the secrets of the universe. Or at the very least, the Dead Sea Scrolls.

I know, I'm just excited to have an option.  :-P
