Post by: hal on July 29, 2007, 09:07:05 PM
You guys and girls tell me about shows that you find compelling. And to great effect and I thank you for your efforts. Let me tell you about a show that is not just good entrancement but explains who we are and how we came to be that and why, History channel, special, Shermans march. It is om Itunes and I recommend it.

Awesome.  I myself was thinking about starting a seperatist TV thread, since the 'Television Thread' itself is so old Skool and passe and literally filled with old timers who don't understand where us crazy kids are coming from.

You and me vs the world.  Let's go.

For me, I love Good Eats on the Food Network. Alton Brown is like a new-wave Mr. Wizard who cooks. It's just enough science to keep me interested with just enough entertainment and gags to make a cooking show fun to watch for 30 minutes. Plus, I actually made some of the recipes and they rule. The episode on braising ribs was very good.

TV generally sucks.  I do enjoy The Addams Family still for goofiness, and Sandford & Son just never gets old.  It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is awesome.  Venture Bros. takes awesome to entire new levels, don't let the fact it is animated fool you, plus it's riddled with David Bowie references and I love Bowie.  I can't think of what else I would go out of my way to watch, assuming my game consoles were not an option in the first place.

I once liked but am now tired of The Simpsons and Family Guy.  This Old House is no longer good.  Tired of South Park.  Robot Chicken is getting there.  You might try those.

How It's Made on the Science Channel is more effective than a Valium washed down with a glass of wine.

Like the game design contest, we should make a tv show.

Family Guy and Futurama are getting worn out for me.  I wish Will Farrel would stop making movies and make more Oblongs.

"Oblong" is "sucks balls" in some language, I know it.

I forgot about Dirty Jobs on one of them there sciency channels.  Running out of material doesn't matter since Mike Rowe is hilarious.

TV sucks.

Even with satellite, it still sucks…

My TV viewing is confined to:

* NHL Center Ice broadcasts and HD-Net NHL broadcasts
* NFL package
* Fox Soccer channel/Gol TV
* An occasional HD movie on HD-net or the other channel (need more HD channels please!)
* CSPAN, including Book TV on the weekends if I cannot find a sports broadcast (sorry, but NBA and MLB games I cannot watch on TV…)
* MSNBC Olbermann, but he has a podcast that I tune into and can listen to his commentary/interviews of pertinent material without the TV news-lite Paris Hilton/Hollywood fare…
