Title: Gamespot wins the race for stupidest gaming website
Post by: Margalis on July 24, 2007, 09:53:29 PM
Check out this review:

Specifically the icons at the top of it. LOL. The idea of having icons at all is retarded, plus the icons don't make any fucking sense and appear to be drawn by idiots.

I give the game one rainbow condom, two books and a swirly target out of a Matt Damon, blender, and three hippopotamus.

without mousing over, I see a Rainbow house, so we know the game is gay-friendly, the second icon references either Churchill, Nixon, or is a modern UK version of "up yours/the finger", the third icon clearly references reading old books. (old, as the paper has yellowed), and finally some kind of hypnotism or madhouse is involved.

More simply put:

What? I like recycling. Sue me.

Probably a summer intern.

What does the rainbow trash can mean?

What does the rainbow trash can mean?

You mean the "Art House" one?  God, the description for that one is so fucking bad:

Quote
As modern rock radio proves to us every day, you don't need to actually be independent to convey some form of indie appeal.  Games that manage to do this without being totally soul-sucking along the way are few and far between, and these fall into our Art House category.  Now stop reading this and go get a haircut, you neo-hippie!

What.

The quote that jumped into my head when I read it was Lisa Simpson saying "I know those words, but that sentence makes no sense".

There was so much garbage going on, I had to look twice to find out what the hell you were talking about.

Oh, I see the icons now.

Is this new? Holy god.

They might as well rename the 'Art House' award, to the 'Bats For the Other Team' award, because that's all it communicates to me.

The could have at least made the "sucks you in" icon a whirlpool or black hole instead of a lollipop.

I look forward to them inventing new icons for every game they review. Picture of bagpipes = bad sound.

Could they use their own logo for "This game is a piece of trash, don't waste your time?"

Or is that too over the top?

I managed to find a burning dollars (http://au.gamespot.com/ps2/puzzle/guitarhero80s/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review) medal, a NES controller medal and an ad medal (http://au.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/ncaafootball08/review.html?sid=6175450&om_act=convert&om_clk=multimodule&tag=multimodule;picks;title;3). Do I win something?

Ahh, looking further: I sure didn't see the medals (their term) on the Darkness review (http://au.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/thedarkness/review.html?sid=6173249&om_act=convert&om_clk=multimodule&tag=multimodule;reviews;title;6) the first time I read it. Nor the Hour of Victory review (http://au.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/hourofvictory/review.html?sid=6173411&om_act=convert&om_clk=multimodule&tag=multimodule;reviews;title;5). There is some retroactive work there.

The "I've just been kicked in the nuts" aka "Oh Snap!" needs to be avatared, stat.

They complained about the blatant in-game ads in NCAA.

Really?

Isn't the whole game an advertisement? I can't think of a better place for ads than in a licensed sports game. What next? Gonna complain about the ads on cars in a Nascar title? (not a sport, lol.)

Whuu whuuu whaaaaaaaaaaattt??

They bitched about in-game ads in a sports game? WTF? That's like complaining the weapons in Counter-strike are based on actual weapons and are just a marketing tool for H&K. You buy a sports game, you WANT it to be as close to the game you see on TV as it can be, and that amazingly includes ad billboards and the like.

Those icons are high stupid, but that statement is a motherfucking Mozart of idiocy.

Not to get all technical, but in the retail release of Counter-Strike, they had to change the names of all the weapons to generic names. Like, the AK-47 was the CV-47, and the Colt M4A1 was the Maverick M4A1.

I just downloaded a .txt file that changed them back, because I'm anal like that. ;p

I think CS personally made the Desert Eagle the gamer's gun of choice.

Oh, and STALKER had the same issue: all of their guns have more generic names, with patches existing to change them to the 'right' names.

I loves me some H&K.

Bring the G36 to the US, you bastards! The real one. Not that SL8 shit.

What was this originally about again?

Or you could've just downloaded the free online version which had all the original trademarked names still in them. The retail version was really only for those who couldn't figure out how to find their Web site.

Edit: Actually that's not really accurate. The boxed retail version was for those who never heard of the game before seeing it on the shelves but little did they know they could download it for free as well.

I think the game publisher are stupid to lift this quote out of Gamespot anyway. I saw the ad banner in some site I was browsing.
The most fun game we've tried this year. Ok. -Random Mag 1
Easy to get into, pick up and play WW2 Game. -Random Mag 2
Then Gamespot came up.

Win. LOL

It's a classier version of "u just got pwnn0red!!!". Except here, the game is allegedly pwznn0ring you with an awesomeness moment.

I would have said two cards that are the same - i.e. an actual Snap moment in a card game - would have been a better icon. But then I never would have thought them necessary anyway.

I'm glad that hasn't yet filtered into local culture from the US...
