Title: Dream of Mirror: A Game Where You Can Really Get Into Your Weapon. Post by: Signe on July 19, 2007, 10:24:41 AM I can't wait to ride my Magic Sword named Johnson! (http://www.gametribe.com/) More than glorious, I tell you!
Quote Dream of Mirror is a free-to-play MMORPG (massive multi-player online role playing game) developed by Softstar, leading brand of Chinese video games industry. Dream of Mirror surpassed 400,000 registered users in Taiwan alone! The player can choose between 4 races (Human, Sylph, Sprite, Felin), 6 classes (Commoner, Swordsman, Doctor, Shaman, Thief, Mystic) and 6 skills (meditation, fishing, mining, animal breeding, farming, forestry) to gain experience through amazing quests and missions; weapons grow too, and pets are active allied during combats. In this game user can fly all over the places riding its weapons. The game places a lot of emphasis on teamwork also through the strong human relationship system that is core for gaming experience development. For the game success it is essential also to establish highly close friends groups. These guilds will have to vote for a leader who will guide them in combats versus other guilds: winners will gain cities control! Game’s interface is extremely user friendly and is built to assist player’s interactions and to involve him into the game. Except for many handy functions the players can access, there are also many paths designed for new players to start the game easily. The graphic provide contemporary 3D anime style with cell shading effects. Title: Re: Dream of Mirror: A Game Where You Can Really Get Into Your Weapon. Everyone starts with that class, and can't choose another until level 30 or so. Commoners have the ability to swing brooms at enemies, and nothing else. Also, brooms are crappy weapons, but are good for flying 'all over the places' on. At least, that's my prediction, without any research. -- Alkiera Title: Re: Dream of Mirror: A Game Where You Can Really Get Into Your Weapon. Once, when playing D&D and more than a little drunk, we were tasked with building "local characters" to aid our heroes in defending Ze Castle. I rolled so poorly on the one designated as the "leader" of my local militia that we made him a 20th level commoner.Commoners have the ability to swing brooms at enemies, and nothing else. He was awesome up until the point where a bear ate him. Title: Re: Dream of Mirror: A Game Where You Can Really Get Into Your Weapon. Post by: Vanifae on July 19, 2007, 01:53:04 PM I am tired of fucking Asian MMO's, they usually suck, the artwork is pretty but hollow, no customization, and they just make me want to wretch.

Title: Re: Dream of Mirror: A Game Where You Can Really Get Into Your Weapon. Post by: tmp on July 19, 2007, 06:00:54 PM Quote At the beginning the players will start as a Commoner as class. Ability to switch class at any time, and leave any previously learnt class as 'secondary' to use in combination with the main class... that's pretty neat. Not as flexible as full mix and match abilities system but damn better than the "you rolled a priest now you're stuck with it forever or re-roll" stuff that's still oh-so-bloody common. When players reach level 10, they will then be able to go the NPC “Transferred Wisp” to transfer into any of the following classes as Main Talent: – Swordsman – Shaman – Thief – Mystic – Doctor Here they can also set their sub classes for carrying sub talent, because the system will memorize every classes including the skill that the players have learned before. At the first change only Commoner will be available as sub talent, since the players have not yet learned any other class. If the players decide to change class again, they will be able to do it (as many times as they like) and set up as a subtalent of one their previous learned classes . They will then be able also to transfer back to previous learned class as their main class at anytime. Title: Re: Dream of Mirror: A Game Where You Can Really Get Into Your Weapon. I can't imagine playing a game without a job system if it requires fame or special quests or any shit like that. The great thing about the job system is that if you do the quest to get some fame or to get an airship pass or whatever you never have to do it again, no matter how many jobs you play. Post by: Amaron on July 20, 2007, 04:24:40 AM I tried this in Japanese a while ago. It has cutesy graphics much like Rose Online. The only redeeming looking features I remember were cut-scenes reminiscent off FFXI. I'll give it bonus points too for having saintly beings as a racial choice. They floated instead of walking and they wielded their weapons with telekinesis (the swords would float beside them and whirl in the air and what not).
The rest of it of course was total regurgitation of other asian crap. Upchuck indeed. Title: Re: Dream of Mirror: A Game Where You Can Really Get Into Your Weapon. Post by: Nonentity on July 20, 2007, 09:03:31 AM Wait - didn't Flyff do this?
Signe, I know you have some RSS feed somewhere, that is like, 'up to date korean game announcements - english edition GO FAST!' - hell, you probably syndicate the damn thing. This is the exact thread that this smilie was invented for: :vv: But no, seriously. Until the Korean MMOs start ripping off of WoW, I don't want to look at them. Title: Re: Dream of Mirror: A Game Where You Can Really Get Into Your Weapon. Post by: Engels on July 20, 2007, 09:50:52 AM I wish I could easy screen cap the glorious engrish available in Granado Espada. Its worth clicking on every NPC you meet just to get a sampling. I mean, what is -wrong- with these companies? Its not like they couldn't hire some itinerant english speaker off the streets, give him a workstation and have him go at it for a reasonable fee. Why bother pouring resources into a US or EU market if you're completely giving up on basic translation that'll pretty much ensure 90% of your English speakers will not subscribe to your game?

Post by: Amaron on July 23, 2007, 06:03:06 AM I mean, what is -wrong- with these companies? Well to put it simply these games aren't actually translated to English at all. Basically some company in Singapore usually picks up the original and does translation work on it. Singapore is "officially" an english speaking country but in practice they have tons of languages and a lot of people speak something called Singlish which is mostly English but borrows a lot from other languages of the area. So either they let some of that slip into the game or everyone is so used to horrible English that they just don't care. Then when the NA version comes out if they actually bothered to fix all that they'd have to redo localization fixes and make text fit in boxes properly and what not. This is sometimes a lot of work because the structure of Korean writing leads to them creating UI's that don't have enough text space for English in the first place. So instead of redoing all the translation work the Singaporeans have done they just usually accept the crappy work since they don't have to redo all this stuff. In reality they'd be far better off paying someone to recode the game clients to work better with English but they don't want to do that either because they have some deal to get all future updates from Korea. If they fixed the game clients then every time a new patch came out they'd have to rewrite it a little to work with the NA interface. The problems just snowball from there. In short the real answer to your question is that the Korean companies don't give a crap about the NA market in the first place. If they'd just code their original interfaces to be more flexible toward other languages in the first place the whole problem would be avoided. |
