Title: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Bstaz on July 11, 2007, 11:03:03 AM So I am on the fence on getting Overload for the Xbox 360. I liked the Demo but have a feeling that pulling off that quirky level of entertainment for an entire game would be hard to do.
Can anyone give a mini review or impressions? Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Signe on July 11, 2007, 11:49:23 AM When we finally get a 360, that's one of the games I'm interested in, too. I wouldn't mind some personal opinions.
Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Yegolev on July 11, 2007, 12:05:43 PM I haven't yet made time to try the demo. I already played Dungeon Master, though.
Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: schild on July 11, 2007, 12:08:03 PM Nothing like Dungeon Master.
Overlord is good, different but good. Not very challenging. I imagine the multiplayer would be immense fun. Dungeon Maker for the PSP is nice also. Edit: Bstaz, the quirkiness is evenly spread, it's nice. Thats out on the Xbox 360 now? Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: trotski on July 11, 2007, 12:22:57 PM Overlord is good, different but good. Not very challenging. Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Phildo on July 11, 2007, 02:27:32 PM Overlord is pretty good. I beat it yesterday. There aren't as many good/evil choices as I would've liked, but the ones that it presets you are pretty good. And it's incredibly satisfying to level a peasant town with your minions.

Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Tairnyn on July 11, 2007, 04:35:59 PM There's one game-breaking bug about 60% of the way through (on both PC and 360) that isn't patched yet for the 360, but it's easy to avoid if you know what to look for. The ver 1.1 patch notes on the Codemaster forums would probably provide the least amount of spoiler to figure out what it is. There's also a few minor bugs with pathing that can cause some of your minions to get stuck, but it wasn't bad enough to turn me off.
Otherwise, I've found it to be a pretty fun game with both humor and style. I agree that it's too easy, but I found it enjoyable enough to not have it ruin my fun. I especially loved how the minions would upgrade their looks based on the equipment they picked up. I actually got sad when particular minions in a nice outfit would get killed. Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Trippy on July 11, 2007, 05:53:21 PM I have it for the PC. It's basically a cross between Pikimin, Fable, and the spirit of Dungeon Keeper and Gremlins (the movie). Be warned that you can't save anywhere you want and checkpoints are few and far between. For those that might be interested in the PC version the controls on the PC suffer from being designed for a console system so it may feel awkward to you.

Yeah the pumpkin head minions crack me up every time.Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Phildo on July 11, 2007, 06:26:38 PM Getting them all liquored up is pretty fun, too.
Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: schild on July 11, 2007, 06:28:51 PM But they just go to sleep when they're drunk...
Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Phildo on July 11, 2007, 06:33:44 PM Nah, they fight much better.

I think some people meant to say Dungeon Keeper (http://www.strategy-gaming.com/gallery/dungeon_keeper_2/imps.jpg) Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Yegolev on July 12, 2007, 10:08:01 AM Yeah, that's what I meant. I get confused about games with generic names. Damn Molyneux. This game is obviously Pikmin+Fable+Dungeon Keeper, Trippy was completely accurate there.
Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Tairnyn on July 12, 2007, 03:30:49 PM Yeah the pumpkin head minions crack me up every time. The chef's hat was my personal favorite. I'll always keep a place in my heart for little Emeril. Title: Re: OverLord 360 Anyone Post by: Daeven on July 13, 2007, 11:11:00 AM Its an amusing RPGish game. I wish there was more DK2 in the tower building though, as opposed to 'add spikey bits'!
The PC controls felt wonky as hell, but they work on the console. So. There you have it I guess. |
