Title: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: Bokonon on July 10, 2007, 05:56:39 PM I'm looking for a platformer/shoot-em-up, and an RPG (preferably a replayable, not deep one). I could get New Super Mario Bros., but I prefer more Contra/Bionic Commando style games.
Any ideas? What can I say about F13? It's really my favorite website in the entire universe! I love the irreverent banter and sly wit these keyboard jockeys produce. And I especially love the staff, they're AWESOME. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: schild on July 10, 2007, 05:59:53 PM Huh. When do you leave?

On every interstate trip I took when I was a child, I packed up Pokemon Blue. I have no idea why it kept me so entertained, but it did. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: cmlancas on July 10, 2007, 06:21:19 PM I might've been 13? 14? (I'm 21 now.) I always thought I was too old for a Pokemans game. Is there an attachment for the DS where you can play GB/GBA games?

When do you leave? 8/24 is the last day I could acquire a game. I head out that night. What can I say about F13? It's really my favorite website in the entire universe! I don't really care which one, just take pictures so we can see what you saw. I can't wait now. I'm very excited.
Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: Bokonon on July 10, 2007, 07:25:51 PM Good ole US of A. Taking the northern route, starting in New England and ending in San Francisco. Should hit Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone along the way. Camera is a definite.

Is there an attachment for the DS where you can play GB/GBA games? The DS comes with a slot for GBA games. GB games won't work in it, though.Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: Fabricated on July 10, 2007, 08:46:48 PM Buy a PSP.
Or alternatively: Portrait of Ruin, Dawn of Sorrow, Phoenix Wright 1/2. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I could get New Super Mario Bros., but I prefer more Contra/Bionic Commando style games. I had a good time with MegaMan ZX; there's a fair amount of replay there (if you want to unlock all the suits and things) and I thought it was fun. For RPGs, I don't know of that many that are out yet... there are a ton for the GBA, though, that you may want to go with. For the DS, there are the new Pokémon games, there's that Mario Bros. Partners in Time thing, and Final Fantasy III, but that's about all I can think off offhand that's worthwhile. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: schild on July 11, 2007, 12:14:20 AM Yes, Etrian Odyssey would be a good choice. A Very Good Choice.
Picross DS is out in 3 weeks, that's amazingly fun for being such a simple puzzle game. Mega Man Star Force is out soon. Rune Factory comes out 2 weeks before you leave. Finally, Life Signs: Surgical Unit and Settlers 2 come out the week before you leave. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: Yegolev on July 11, 2007, 08:30:37 AM Thanks, Signe. Good to know someone around here reads the front page. Or the News forum.
I don't know a lot about DS games but I will strongly suggest Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Etrian Odyssey. Those two will keep you plenty busy. I'd suggest Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow except it has STYLUSITIS. Yeah, I made up a word. That game has an inflamed stylus. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: Bokonon on July 11, 2007, 10:18:21 AM You know, I actually do go to the front page, but I completely flaked on it. So it looks like that's one down. I may also get Konami's arcade hits compilation, because I really like Time Pilot. I mean, really, REALLY like Time Pilot. It's sad, and so true.

(http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=T&game_id=10119) Ah, yes. The interesting thing about my posts is that they are all implicitly green, yet I always appreciate answers to my questions or rebuttals to my points. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: fnddf2 on July 11, 2007, 08:35:42 PM Nobody said Puzzle Quest yet? I would also suggest Puzzle Quest, although for some reason I can't play it continually for more than an hour. I think it's because you actually have think in that game, so my brain gets tired after a while. It is very engaging though, and well suited for road trips. I'm not a typical puzzle fan, so if you don't like puzzle games you may still like it. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: HAMMER FRENZY on July 11, 2007, 09:03:26 PM Hey I have some recommendations. If you want action stuff I say get some Yoshi's island 2, that game was fun and pretty challenging. Also get Scurge Hive, that game is way overlooked and cheap as hell, i think you can get it for the ds for like $10-$12. Of course you have your castlevanias and stuff, but you might want to try some Megaman ZX, which was really good. You may also like lunar knights, that game was fun and it doesn't use the sun gimmick anymore. i think that viewtiful joe scratch was really fun as was sonic rush. no shit, sonic rush was pretty damn good.
if you want somthign fun to just kick back and play i say hotel dusk is good. (i actually think this would be great for a long trip, this shit reads like a novel but has some nice puzzles and art in it. ) and for puzzle action i say go with puzzle lleague/tetris/meteo combo. fucking trifecta. now if you want to get a little silly go get these gba games and really have a nice trip advanced ghouls and ghosts gunstarheroes advance ninja 5-0 <----------this will take care of that bionic commando shit real quick there you go. have fun. Title: Re: Going on a cross-country road trip in a couple months. I need some DS games Post by: Bokonon on July 12, 2007, 07:00:33 AM If you can believe it, both the Konami comp and Etrian Odyssey were sold out at the EBShames near work here. "Just sold the last one," says the clerk, about Etrian.
Ninja Five-0 does look intriguing... And very rare. I'll keep an eye out for it. What can I say about F13? It's really my favorite website in the entire universe! I love the irreverent banter and sly wit these keyboard jockeys produce. And I especially love the staff, they're AWESOME. |
