Title: PSP RPGs Post by: Riggswolfe on June 29, 2007, 06:50:13 AM My god there are no good RPGs on this little handheld. Well, very few. I went on a PSP spending spree yesterday and got a couple of cool games. I got two RPGs: Vahalla Knights (shit from what I hear) and Valkerie Profile. Later this month they're coming out with Tales of the World and I'll probably pick it up.
I think I should have gotten the DS way back when. Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: schild on June 29, 2007, 07:38:36 AM Now this is a depressing.
The only Good RPGs I've played on the system are Valkyrie Profile and Dungeon Maker. I am pretty stoked about Tales of the World, Riviera, and Disgaea PSP (Etna Story!). Valhalla Knights isn't that good. Dungeon Maker is just Awesome in every way though. Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: Tebonas on June 29, 2007, 07:51:54 AM SInce I just broke down and bought the Nintendo DS for my Puzzle Quest pleasures, what would be the RPGs to get for that device? I guess Etrian Oddysey once it makes the jump to Europe, anything else?
Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: Riggswolfe on June 29, 2007, 08:39:42 AM What about Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner? I've read some good reviews. Anyone tried it?

I guess Etrian Oddysey once it makes the jump to Europe, anything else? I consider Pokemon to be an RPG, I'd pick up one of those. I'll be goddamned if it isn't a well-made game that is fun. The best way to describe this game is a bizarro happy Shin Megami Tensei from the guy who made Shin Megami Tensei. I really can't explain it. I liked it a good deal though. Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: Yegolev on June 29, 2007, 09:25:01 AM Do not buy Children of Mana. I enjoy the Castlevania titles on DS quite a bit, but those are not really in the RPG mold. Contact is a good RPG, and I love the visuals and music.
Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: schild on June 29, 2007, 09:27:44 AM The combat is mediocre in Contact though... It is a fantastically enjoyable game though.
Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: KyanMehwulfe on June 29, 2007, 10:56:19 AM Too bad Konami never brought over their two Suikoden PSP ports; I heard they got new content.
It'll will hopefully change. There seems to be new interest in the platform as of late. Hopefully Crisis Core paves the way for more RPGs, and everything from God of War to Wipeout and SOCOM for other genres, and lastly The Lion War for more classic remakes. Preferably with some games we never got in the first place; I'm looking at Seiken Densetsu 3 in particular (presence of a fairly decent fan translations or not). Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: Nonentity on June 29, 2007, 11:00:05 AM They ported Suikoden! DAMMIT
What other game do you have a character in your party which is a blatant racist stereotype? The black farmer named 'Blackman', who fights with a hoe. I actually preferred Puzzle Quest on the PSP, just because it was a little easier to take in all the details, then work with the tiny DS screen. Pretty, too. Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: Fabricated on June 29, 2007, 12:17:24 PM What about that weird series of generic looking JRPGs that's up to like its 4th game now? I keep seeing a new one every time I go to buy games and I can never work up the energy to buy one.
Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: schild on June 29, 2007, 12:20:29 PM Fabricated, we don't talk about the Legend of Heroes series. It's Just not safe. Apparently the 4th one was well liked by everyone though. I hated the first 2.
Title: Re: PSP RPGs Post by: Rasix on June 29, 2007, 12:34:21 PM The first one was OK. But it was horribly generic, badly written, Engrish all over the place (at one point you're calling some bandits a bunch of "crowns"), and the balance for the end guy was pure crap. I returned it, because the 10 bucks I got for it was worth more than finishing it would have been.
The best RPGs I've played on the PSP are PS1 titles through emulation. They look great on the PSP. |
